How did you find your way to Dragonmount?

You could say it's all google's fault, but I blame sport ;D

One day in highschool I hid in the library to skip out on sport and started thinking about another time I had skipped out on sport in the library.

On that particular occassion I had noticed a rather long series of books sitting in the fantasy section. It was, of course, the WoT. So I picked up the EotW and read. And read. And missed the bus home, and read. And was turfed out by the librarian and had to phone my grandmother to come and get me.

Many recesses, lunches, band practices, spare periods, not-so spare periods and many, many sports lessons later, I was still reading. Then suddenly I ran out of pages and didn't know what to do.

So during that fateful sports lesson I impulsively googled Wheel of Time. And it lead me here. And I lurked for a few months. And then I saw some gibbering lackwit squicking because he thought Rand and Elayne were siblings. Naturally, I had to correct him by exhaustively detailing the geneology of the Andoran Royal Line right off the top of my head. That was when I realised that I was obsessed. I've never looked back.  :P

not very original, i had finished the last book published to then in the series, and wanted info on when i could get my hands on the next, google lead me to DM, which looked quite different back then, it was split in two sections and somehow i ended in the rp section...where look and behold there was stories set to wheel of time, and some surprisingly well written...at the time i didnt have too much time so only skimmed some

however a few days later i was bored, nothing on tv, it probably was mid weekend or sunday dont know just by reasoning since we often was out in conection to weekends :P, anyhow i went back to pass some time by reading stories, got ideas and descided to check out more on how to join...which landed me eventualy in chat with some personalities ..and from there the rest is history :P

My story is irony piled on irony, but here we go (since I'm thinking I've not told it in years).

I had just finished whatever book came out the tag-end of 2000... Winter's Heart, I believe.  Now, at the time, I was waiting for my sister or my mother to finish reading the book, because I direly wanted to discuss it with someone.  Both of them came up with reasons why they weren't going to read it right away - queue massive twitch factor.  However, I had received a computer earlier in the year, and had bought a THIRD phoneline for the house, so I decided to get online to find places to talk about the books.

The first site I found was WoTmania, actually, and there were huge 'DON'T POST SPOILERS' notes draped across the place.  Undaunted, I still hung about and made some lovely friends, and managed to avoid most of the newbie-face hazing that people get there.

So yeah, about a month later, some people were talking smack about Dragonmount, and I was amused by this.  So, a couple of us who couldn't see the point of a roleplay site wandered over to be trolls!  However, it was a bit of kindness in the form of a 'Welcome to Dragonmount, Welcome to the White Tower' welcoming email I received on a throwaway email account that made me decide to wander back and check it out in earnest.

So here we are, seven and a half years later.. and I'm one of the roleplay admins -again-.  And the rest of the irony, I've forgotten.

The end! :D

I did the same route as Raeyn, first stumbling into the madness known as wotmania before finding my way here. First time I became really aware of DM was when Mike from wotmania and Jason did a joint interview with RJ, and when I later decided that it was time to leave wotmania, I decided to check out DM because I still wanted a WOT-hangout online.

So I came here autumn 2003, and have stuck around ever since.

I came here the first time in 2001 when i was thirteen. I'd just finished the series for the first time and was looking for people to chat to about it, so i just googled (or ninemsn'd i think) the wheel of time and this place popped up--i stuck around for a few months then was lured away to the greater insanity of the Shadar Logoth board, and came back again when i was sixteen and more or less stayed since then.

I was studying for my Arts Bachelor in 1999 (I started then), and I had already stumbled across the WoT Encyclopaedia which I totally loved. I liked the re-written songs and the links to artwork pages, and the Old Tongue Dictionary was my fave!

I saw a link to "Dragonmount" some some RP shenanigans, and thought, "oh no way, don't need that."

It was June 2000 when I finally decided to go and check out DM once and for all. I realised what roleplaying was about, and was intrigued by the idea of creating a novice character and interacting with Aes Sedai, etc. I thought, "Woah, this is gonna be so cool." I sent off a bio (after creating one, of course *g*) to Emillith, and waited impatiently for a few days for it to be approved. Finally it was, and on July 4th 2000 I posted my first post on the DM boards.

The rest is DEFINITELY history ;)

hehehe....well.........

Sometime in late 2001 my home life sucked...bad.  In between fighting bouts with the ex-husband, I found this little community called Dragonmount that talked about *gasp* this series I was totally freaking addicted to.

And what a bunch of crazies.  Here I thought I'd be coming upon a group of *clears throat* ermmm...nerds ;) discussing a book series. Oh yes, there was that.  But there was also Mumsy, and Darren, and Darksmoon and many, many others (don't hit me for forgetting you!) and most especially Raeyn...and then Owen.  These two were and are the biggest reason for me staying around in the beginning and coming back time and time again.

Over the last...yikes...seven years I have been here...and then I've disappeard for R/L reasons.  Sometimes (especially this last) for a loooong time.  But DM was always there in the back of my head, never forgotten and always loved.

I think you must mean late 2000, Taesie dear, seeing how we were Novices and Accepted together ;)

I still remember cussing your ex-husband out on ICQ back in the day... I was quite a fierce little snot in those days *grins*

No great mystery. I was familiar with the site through RJ's blog, and Kathana and Company at Dragon*Con. I vaguely knew you did online roleplay here, but I haven't had enough time for that sort of thing since college.

This year after D*C and hearing about the ten year anniversary, I signed up.

I had just started reading the books probably middle of '06 for the second time (only made it to FoH the first time before I got distracted by something else) and I saw my brother (aka RobertAlexWillis) writing up a post.  I looked over his shoulder for a month and a half or so (that was my lurking period) then I finally signed up for my self.  I actually had to sign up twice because the first time I signed up I didn't log on right away and when I did come back a few days later to make a post I had forgotten my password.  So I signed up again in December and now here I am.

Gah...you're right Rae....geez, has it really been that long ago?

And I soooo remember those ICQ convo's! :P  Those really got me through that fun time in my life!  *hugs*

Ahhh the days of ICQ - I have probably thousands of pages of ICQ chat history from my early DM days *g* Tannie and I used to panic if either one of us dropped offline for more than an hour with no warning :P It was so silly.

And I remember that upon meeting my very first minty ever (Querida), we had been chatting 7 days or so before she said I was welcome to stay at her place :P

  • 1 year later...

I just finished Knife of Dreams and wanted more WoT (like the addict I am) so I surfed the internet.  I found this and started reading some of the forums.  I found it cool so I joined up and I am glad I did.  You guys are all great

I found Dragonmount by looking in the back of one of the books, (I cant remember which one) and it had "Robert Jordan hosts his blog at Dragonmount.com" So I searched it on google, and I was there.

I didnt join until that faitful September however when I was in a Game's Workshop, talking about how awesome the Wheel of Time was, when one of the emploees told me that RJ had passed that sunday.

Now I rushed home in a daze, and went right to Dragonmount, where I saw the news firs hand....The rest is hestory.

For me, I just noticed the sites listed in the back of books. At first, I did not pay any mind to them; I am usually too busy to think about doing anything social on the internet, except commenting on youtube, but just yesterday (I am new), a bored curiosity made me type in tarvalon.net, and since I found that a little strict in its regulations, I bounced to here to see what this was about. It seems like a place people can hold intellectual conversations, whether about the stories or not, but I have yet to find out. I am also a great drawer, since I endeavor in all the painting/fundamental drawing classes at my school to perfect my natural talent, so maybe when I get the time I will submit some art of WOT characters as I see them.

I think it started with the videogame, way back when.

Got hooked, and like tides, sometimes I'm in, and sometimes I'm out.

Pretty serious lurker since KoD and the internet hunt, worse since learning of RJ's illness, and since his passing, a regular fixture.

Don't post too much, but happy to be among friends...even if some of you are WAY IN.

Love the new site, and can't wait for some of the old files to return.

Crazy....could have sworn I posted here.....Hmmm.

Anyways, while bored at work, I caught a snippet headline(On MSN or Yahoo or some-such), titled 'Famed Author Dies'. Curiousity got the better of me, and I about fell out of my chair when I saw that it was RJ. Quite selfishly, I began spent the next couple of days searching for info on the fate of the series(I picked up tEotW in 1991 and have reread with each new release). This search led me to DM, where I signed up and browsed the General Boards for a couple of weeks. Eventually, I was persuaded by a couple of persuasive ladies(Taymist and Jaydena) to check out the Social Groups and RP's. That was three years ago.
