Also, is Rand going to sleep with Aviendha in the Field of Merrilor? Because there's like 2 days until the Last Battle, otherwise it's a dead giveaway that Rand survives it.

One of the things I'm seeing Brandon criticized for is back-and-forth overlapping timelines. Check out the discussions about the Mat and Verin story relative to the timelines of the characters in the preceding and following chapters.

Time might not flow backwards in tel'aran'rhiod, but between the two Brandon books you'd almost think it did in the real Randland. Quite possible this Aviendha chapter actually happened as much as a month earlier.

Aviendha's POV is earlier than Rand's plotline in ToM because Aviendha traveled into the Waste before Veins of Gold and it is only a couple of days into the Waste when she meets Nakomi. By the time she is done going through the glass columns twice her timeline might be close to caught up with Rand's but it doesn't look like she has met back up with him at least at late as his meeting with the Borderlanders since there is no mention of her with his party. This is only a day before(?) he Traveled to the big meeting (which catches up all timelines) so it seems unlikely that she has meet up with Rand yet. So even though her timeline started earlier it still looks like there is only a day or two before Rand breaks the seals for her to yet pregnant.

1) What was the most jaw-dropping scene (or scenes) to you when you read the material for ToM?

"Verin"

"That's what you answered for Book 12. I'm asking about book 13, which I've already read"

"Everyone in line close your ears"

"The whole Tower of Ghenjei sequence. That was all written by Jim. Also, the surprise proposal at the end"

Read in a Q&A quoted above that Brandon said RJ wrote the whole ToG sequence. Is this the first confirmation we have of a section that is definitely written by him?

I don't see why Rand and Avi shouldn't have time to sleep with eachother after tFoM? I doubt the last battle is done in a day :p

The timeline that Rand laid out to Egwene was to meet with her at the Fields of Merrilor and then the very next day go to Shayol Ghul and break the remaining seals.

I don't think there's gonna be a halftime. Especially not with marching bands and baton twirlers. Don't think there's gonna be any timeouts either. Not even injury timeouts.

Now, The dire situation in the Borderlands, Lan's charge into Tarwin's Gap, fires in Caemlyn, possible Seanchan invasion of Tar Valon, possibly still the situation at the Black Tower, those might mess with Rand's timeline, but, at this point, and given that he's got Min underfoot, I doubt that canoodling with Aviendha is even in it.

Are all the timelines caught up now? If not, who/what still needs to catch up with the Fields of Merrilor group?

It appears that the timelines are all caught up and in the same place. Rand, Perrin, Egwene, Elayne, Galad, Gawyn are all at the Fields of Merrilor now.

Unknowns:

Mat - I would guess that he is also caught up and that his exit of ToG, Olver's winning Snakes and Foxes and discovery of Verin's note, and the attack on Caemlyn all occur at the same time. It seems most likely this attack occurs while Elayne is gone so this should all be at the same time as Fields of Merrilor.

Aviendha - No real info on where she is or where her timeline is by book's end.

Black Tower - don't have enough info to be sure for this but Rand sent Naeff there just a few days before going to the Fields of Merrilor so it is likely this timeline is caught up also.

Question marks

Mat - how long did he spend in Finnland?

Avi - ditto for Rhuidean in the columns?

Both above are places where time can be scrambled and we don't have external references to when they come out.

Bigger Q-mark Lan -does he attack at Tarwin's Gap contemporaneous to the Field of Merrilor meeting?

This is tough to judge. Lan felt Nyn in the bond but that was VoG+3 while Field of M is ~ VoG+27. OTOH we didn't see Lan since the kandor-Arafel border and he had to cross Arafel and Shienar to get to Tarwin's Gap.

Also, we don't hear any references to trolloc attacks on Saldaea, Kandor, Arafel in Lan's PoV and the Maradon relief happened on VoG +4/5.

There are two missing weeks (20 days - WoT weeks) approx from both Perrin and Rand's PoVs. What happened there?

I was having timeline issues in the beginning as well... I was under the impression that Mat arrived in Caemlyn before VoG. However, soon after that, Elayne goes to TAR and meets with Nynaeve and Egwene, but that's post-VoG because Nynaeve talks about that. So does Elayne just miss out for about 2 months?

Oh, right, I did have a (b). From p. 754:

"The Guardian blocks the One Power," Rand whispered. "The One Power only."

This is in Far Madding, in the context of "I'd have returned those slaps with balefire." So... have we had any indication that Rand has access to the True Power? Or is it just meant to imply that, if he hadn't seen the light, he'd be serving the Dark One by now?

I was referring to the time in between Elayne taking Caemlyn and the three girls meeting up in TAR though, I was just using Mat as the next reference point we have of her really. For example, Perrin's timeline was done parallel to tGS for the first 2/3 of the book, what about Elayne?

We first see Elayne from Egwene's timeline (VoG +2)

Then we see her from Mat's timeline (VoG-15)

No issue as such.

Similar to Tam (we saw him in TGS at VoG -2 and then again in ToM from earlier).

Took me some time to realise that. Chapter 14 (which is the meeting between Elayne and Egwene in T'A'R) happens much later chronologically than the next few chapters from Elayne's PoV which is somewhat confusing. I kept wondering why the Black Ajah prisoners have not taken to the Tower for execution, for example.

It's Justice, Artur Hawkwing's sword. He remembers it from Falme.

Ah okay, that makes sense now. So it's in reverse order in the same book; don't see that a lot haha

We saw what Elayne was doing or heard what she'd done off-screen.

She had a lot of baths.

We also have references to her trying to figure out what she was going to do with her noble prisoners, with random mercenaries, etc.

There's also some guff in TGS where Gawyn is being pumped for info about Elayne's intentions by various AS.

that was my initail thought as well but do we know that of a certainty or is that a supposition? and what is the knife of dreams then?
