The Red Ajah will be organising International Women's Week from 8-14th March. Which is next week.

To help putting all those fabulous women we admire so much in the spotlight they deserve to be in, you can sign up here to get your very own personalised event signature with the woman of your choice featuring in it.

So step right up and post here the name or picture (or both) of the woman you would like to have in your event signature. Please keep in mind to adhere to the PG-13 rule in the images, in accordance with DM's policy.

The Ol' Pirate himself, Auld Manriva, has grouchily agreed to roll up his eyepatch and grease up his artistic braincells and will be creating these historcial marvels.

Now I don't know if you know his work, but you are all in for a treat!

My sign up:

Queen Gorgo of Sparta

I like how she's portrayed in this picture but not sure if this pic can be manipulated enough. Leaving it in your capable hands, Manny ;D

Plutarch quotes Queen Gorgo as follows: "When asked by a woman from Attica, 'Why are you Spartan women the only ones who can rule men?', she said: 'Because we are also the only ones who give birth to men.'" Another version has this as, "...some foreign lady, as it would seem, told her that the women of Lacedaemon were the only women in the world who could rule men; 'With good reason,' she said, 'for we are the only women who bring forth men.'"

Since I'm Chinese, I'm gonna go for one of my own. Well, she's not MY OWN perse. But someone who is Chinese. From China. Which my ancestors are from. Live with it. *nods*

Wu Yi (simplified Chinese: 吴仪; traditional Chinese: 吳儀; pinyin: Wú Yí; born November 1938 in Wuhan, Hubei, China) was one of four Vice Premiers of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, overseeing the country's economy until March 2008. Known as the "iron lady", Wu is one of the toughest negotiators in China's government, Forbes magazine considered her the second most powerful woman in the world in 2004, 2005 and 2007 and the third most powerful in 2006.

During the SARS crisis, she replaced Zhang Wenkang, who had been fired for his coverup of the crisis, as health minister and headed a committee to solve the crisis. She was called the "Goddess of Transparency" by Time magazine for her leadership during the SARS crisis and named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2004. In the middle of the SARS endemic, Wu fiercely snubbed the advocation for Republic of China's WHO participation during the WHO general assembly. One video clip aired widely in Taiwan showed Wu rebuffing the question of Taiwan's representation during interview by a Taiwanese reporter. After the assembly, a Taiwanese reporter asked the Chinese delegation if they knew what the needs were of the 23 million citizens of Taiwan. Surprisingly, an official beside Wu Yi replied, "Who cares about you people!" to the Taiwanese reporter.

Called by Chinese media as the "Iron Lady of China", Wu is regarded as a firm and direct woman who, unlike her colleagues, has not dyed her graying hair black. Since becoming Vice Premier, Wu has been an able diplomat in signing agreements with neighboring Asian countries. She also makes frequent inspection visits to many southern Chinese regions. Since the death of Huang Ju, the senior Vice Premier, Wu has taken on the portfolio of overseeing financial work.

Vice Premier Wu announced at the end of 2007 that she would retire in March 2008. During the last few months of her tenure she was involved in negotiations with U.S. toy giant Mattel over toy lead content that brought significant woes to the reputation of Chinese products. At a meeting held with Chinese business leaders in early 2008 Wu revealed that her personal salary totaled RMB 120,000, or 17,582.40 U.S. dollars per year[citation needed], and told the business leaders that they should only "take money from the right places".

I'll get on these ASAP. Most will be delivered this weekend is my guess, due to Radio Show commitments this week. But I'll tackle them as they've been requested, some may be out of order a bitty if what I end up doing is a bit more complicated. This might be the case with "The Iron Lady" (my first impression was to use her image only with another suitable background), so it may take a bit of doing Boopsy.

If any of you have "hot flashes" ;D of perspira...umm errr... inspiration, since these posts please feel free to PM me.

Mysty.. I have an idea for yours but it uses yer man up there in the sig as well, with a little assist from Helen Reddy :D

Feel free to do an artistic version, Auld. Kinda like Obama's hope poster? Something graphicky rather than realistic. I absolutely trust your taste anyway, but I do hope to get a siggy before the week's up. *lol*

Much love.
