No-one. I wouldn't use balefire. Not enough blood.

I'd balefire Rand, for laughs.

Nothing like a dead main character to spice up the plot a bit ;D

A fan of the George R. R. Martin school of writing, I see. Excellent.

To be honest, i'd have to admit i only heard of Martin so far. Haven't even come close to reading the man's books.

...Though i'd have to admit that he has good ideas on what to do with main characters ;D

every single Forsaken that has already been killed.... and then "resurrected" >:(

I just think if they're dead let them stay dead, bringing them back to life is quite gimicky.

Oh ya and Gawyn should be taken out with a big enough blast so that him and his Younglings didn't side with Elaida. God I hate him.

If you like the idea of an author willing to kill off his main characters so you don't feel too comfortable, definitely try Martin. Start with A Game of Thrones. Maybe try Steven Erikson as well. He's pretty willing to kill off important characters. Not that that ever stopped any of them.

What do you expect from the Lord of the Grave?

Why?

Just because the DO CAN resurrect ppl doesnt mean i have to like it  :P and why do I need a reason to dislike Gawyn, I just do  :D

Alright let's see..

1. Faile

2. Gawyn

3. Err.. dunno

And I highly recommend both Martin and Erikson. Completely different style from WoT and a lot more down and dirty. And yes, Martin kills off his characters left, right and center. I love it.

I've only read Game of Thrones, but I agree that it is awesome.  So graphic and realistic.  It's no-holds-barred fantasy.

Not enough blood.

Or screaming.

I would balefire myself.  Wouldn't that be an interesting scenario.  Or is it even possible?

Hurry up and read the rest, then.

I think there's only one way to find out.

For everyone who has suggeested balefiring a certain character, surely the more interesting question would be what the consequences of such a balefiring would be. And that would depend on how far back they were balefired. For example, balefire Egwene back to before she came to Salidar. She never becomes Amyrlin. Someone else does. Someone who fails to establish herself as a power in her own right and becomes a puppet. Of a deadlocked Hall. No war against Elaida, so they are probably still in Salidar, or have given up and gone back to the Tower. So the Tower is united divided behind Elaida. Good news for Rand? Probably not. Oh, and there's no real chance of a couple of runaway Accepted (if they don't get busted down to Novice) being sent to find the Bowl of Winds. Mat never goes to Ebou Dar (why would he?), no Windfinder break out, no meeting Setalle Anan or Tuon. What else would be different? Or how about Gawyn? If we balefire him back to before the fighting breaks out in the Tower, then obviously he didn't form the Younglings or kill Hamar and Coulin, he didn't stop any attempt to free Siuan (which is not to say that any such attempt succeeded), but he certainly didn't give his assistance to Siuan, Leane and Min escaping. So did the deposed Amyrlin and Keeper fight their way out of the Tower? Were they killed in the attempt? Was Min with them, or was she arrested and imprisoned? And I'll kneecap the first person to say that if Faile was balefired she wouldn't "ruin Perrin's character", whatever that means. The consequences of Hybrid being balefired are quite possibly too dire to contemplate. Or possibly we'd just lose a few posts from the board and the Pattern adjusts, but that's a much less fun answer.

There's a lovely button called "Enter" on my keyboard :D

Also, most balefires only work back a couple of minutes. THe differences will bein the magnitude of Egwene not getting inside the White Tower, or Perrin not finding Faile in that Shaido town.

No more than that.

Who I'ld balefire? Faile, for a start. Tallanvor. And Mat (so he doesn't bring moiraine back)

Hmm. An interesting point would be when we balefire. We could balefire some characters in Book 1 itself so all their consesquences change differently. Balefiring Egwene in Book 1 may even prevent the division of the tower. ('may')

I would love to do it to Gitara. Then the whole series gets screwed up. ;)

Good for you. Do you want a medal?

So why balefire? Why not who would you kill? Or who would you remove from the story? And even then, what consequences would arise from that balefire? It's damaging to the Pattern remember.

Who I'ld balefire? Faile, for a start. Tallanvor. And Mat (so he doesn't bring moiraine back)
Any particular reasons why? This to everyone who wants to balefire someone in particular, outside of the obvious candidates (I think we're all bored to death with the reasons for Faile). Why Tallanvor? Why Mat, of all people? While we're at it, can we take I'd-balefire-Faile as read? Except for people who opt out and say they wouldn't balefire her.

Exactly what I was getting at. From which point is someone removed from the story and what would the consequences be.

That would cause some interesting ripples. Without that Foretelling, Moiraine and Siuan wouldn't begin looking for the Dragon. Tamra Ospenya was murdered by the Blacks for information relating to the DR, but they now have no reason to do that, so she is still Amyrlin quite possibly. No Search & Destroy, no Vileness. So Owyn wouldn't have been forcibly gentled. So things could turn out differently for him, and as this plays into Thom's motivation, for him as well. Excellent choice.

Well, my turn then.c

I voted for balefiring Rand. a few posts ago. The consequences:

Fain would have never looked twice at the Two Rivers, essentially cutting out the whole Aridhol section of him. The Pattern would have continued to churn out false Dragons who fight each other as much as cooperate. The Forsaken, now free, will start infighting as well given that their one major threat is gone. Believing themselves the victors, they'll turn on the other competition, being each other and the occasional false Dragon.

Siuan will remain as the Amyrlin, as she could never hide information about the Dragon. Maybe Ospenya would still be alive, and Siuan 'just' a Sitter. Moiraine would still travel the world, possibly take Mat and Perrin (Yes, he'd end up with Faile again, sorry guys) along due to their ta'verenness, which would drag along Egwene, and Lan would end up with Nynaeve. The two would become Aes Sedai, and as Green Ajah would be sent out against the false Dragons.

The Black Tower would never have been formed, obviously, the Aiel would remain waiting for the car'a'carn, the Shaido would never have rebelled (no reason for Lanfear to get involved with them) and Rahvin would have continued to rule Andor while everyone believed Morgase was. Andor would be liberated again by Rahvin's slip, only the WT would perform the attack (Rahvin being a Forsaken). I can see a coordinated attack between Reds and Greens happen if rumors got out about Trollocs. They would eventually be spotted, Rahvin kept a Fist with him that fought in the defenses against the Aiel in the Books.

Eventually, Trollocs will make the push south, but it's hard to tell what's going to happen. The Forsaken would have taken up places of power, and wouldn't like a marauding army to march through them, so they'll likely use the troops as personal armies to harry the other Forsaken with, using the Ways. So what if they lose a couple hundred every once in a while? Plenty where that came from. The White Tower will hold, with Mesaana having dug herself in there, increasing the number of Black Ajah members as more and more started to lose hope.

Mashadar would, of course, still be waiting until someone takes refuge from the Trolloc hordes. With no Dark One's gift on that person, Mashadar would be freed, and would launch attacks on Trollocs and humans alike. Mostly Trollocs though. It'd be fun to see Mashadar and Slayer face off against each other though.

Mat would have never had his memories though since they'd never have gone to Rhuidean, though Perrin would have his wolves. The Seanchan (the only large scale organised army left) would land as well, turning everything into a pile of crap, though given that Mat wouldn't have his luck, his weapon or his memories, there's still the option of him getting together with Tuon. She'd never have put herself up as an enemy of Rand after all.

Needless to say, with Trollocs coming in from the north, Seanchan from the south, and Randland itself shaken apart by false Dragons and Forsaken fighting each other left and right, mankind is pretty much screwed without a strong leader figure (the Dragon, though Hawkwing would help as well) forcing people to cooperate.

My two cents. Who's next? ^^

Tallanvor, because he thinks his queen is a higher than the Creator.

Mat, because he's not even in my top 50 of favorite characters, and he's 10 times as popular as all the rest combined. And to keep Moiraine away a while longer.

Faile, because she ruined Perrin's character.

Tallanvor should have been balefired by Rahvin the first second he entered the Caemlyn Palace; Mat by one of the damane in Ebou Dar. Faile should have been balefired in the Two Rivers

No, it isn't. Mainly because he already was in love with her BEFORE he knew her personally. He's in love with the queen, not the person (at least in the beginning-

I'd balefire Cadsuane right at this moment, so Rand can't learn laughter and tears (presumably that's what he will be taught by her). Then Rand can win the Last Battle and be a Dark Dragon.

1) Faile. Nuff said

2) Egwene. She thinks shes always right, she so fake and if I was Rand I would have done it long ago.

3) Moghedien. Oh my God this woman is in constant James Bond-bad guy mode. SHE NEVER LEARNS FROM HER MISTAKES! If you capture someone, ramble on and then let them escape, the next time you have them you kill them. No chatting, no pointless intimidating, just do it. DO IT!

4) Thorum, because he doesnt want Moiraine back!

5) Anyone who is part of the "don't believe them because they're Forsaken" club.
