And here we go with the first of the knock out threads! First up are the winners from the Garage and R&B genre. Below are the small write ups on the two winners for you to look at again before you vote for your favourite.

The champion of Garage... THE WHITE STRIPES

The White Stripes is an American alternative rock/garage rock band from Detroit, Michigan formed in 1997 by vocalist, guitarist/songwriter Jack White and drummer Meg White.  The two met in a local bar in Michigan and were married in September of 1996.  They released their debut album, The White Stripes, in 1999 and since then have released five more studio albums.  The bands style and sound is most known for the very unorthodox style that Meg plays the drums and the dirty, choppy guitar licks that Jack writes.  Their most recent album, Icky Thump, was released in June 2007, and contained the hit singles "Icky Thump" and "You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do as You're Told)".  The White Stripes' latest three albums have each won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.

The champion of R&B... RAY CHARLES

Ray Charles Robinson, known by his stage name Ray Charles, was an American pianist and musician who shaped the sound of rhythm and blues. He brought a soulful sound to country music, pop standards. Frank Sinatra called him "the only true genius in the business." Before he left school, Charles began working as a musician in many bands that played in various styles, including jazz and, in Tampa “with a hillbilly band called The Florida Playboys." This is where Charles began his reputation of always wearing sunglasses. Besides winning dozens of Grammy Awards in his career, Charles was also honored in many other ways. In 1979, he was one of the first honorees of the Georgia State Music Hall of Fame being recognized for being a musician born in the state. Ray's version of "Georgia On My Mind" was made into the official state song for Georgia. In 1981, he was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was one of the first inductees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at its inaugural ceremony in 1986.

Ray Charles was the only choice for R&B nomination. Growing up in the influences of southern music styles like Gospel, Country, Bluegrass, and Jazz, Charles pioneered the formation of R&B music. A lifelong musical career capped by both highs and lows have made him a staple in anyrepertoirerepetoire.

There you go - the two champions of Garage and R&B. All you now need to do is pick who you want to win (please highlight in some way or another) and go through to the next stage of the Knock out and one step closer to the Grand Final! You have until Tuesday 8th July 2008 to make your choice!

While I like the White Stripes, I will follow the crowd and vote for Ray Charles.

I prefer the White Stripes' style a little more than Ray Charles..so i'll be a rebel and cast White Stripes as my vote.

Ray Charles all the way. In my book, White Stripes is basically a one-hit-wonder, while Ray Charles is the very definition of his genre.
