  3. Too funny. I didn't even notice that he narrated it when I was comparing the two films. The reason I asked the question was to differentiate between that and 'Of Mice and Men' which was directed by, and also starred, Gary Sinise. As soon as you said you were ambivalent, I went back and checked the other one and found the narration credit. So funnily enough, if you'd said yes, I'd have chosen the wrong one.

  6. Me too, Elgee. World War I in particular was horrific and even trying to imagine what those men went through in the trenches makes my blood run cold.
  7. It's so lovely to meet you, (again, since we already spoke over in the RP) Cali. I love that you took time to do such an in depth introduction and you certainly sound very Red to me. Saying that, people 'seeming' Red doesn't mean they end up here. But we do have a few who spend a lot of time here as well as in their own Ajah. The Greens and Reds have always been close. There are a lot of cross Ajah bonds and, at one time, the two Ajah were actually bonded as a whole, though it was eventually dissolved. But it illustrates the ties that bind us rather well across the years. I'm impressed at your fortitude to be facing down a potential home intruder as you did, even with a dog by your side. That takes bravery...and possibly a certain amount of insanity but we wouldn't hold that against you lol. More than a few of us have similar tendencies. I can also relate to your lack of a need to be socialising with people all the time, I'm very happy with my own company too. Although I'd be less inclined to walk into public spaces alone but that's less to do with caring what people think and more to do with being agoraphobic. Our whips and chains are less S&M and more affectionate playfulness but we do very much enjoy our toys. I'm afraid you find us at a sadly depleted time. Apart from Mother and myself, and the occasional Red Warder stopping in, we're a bit inactive. It's partly that independent, wandering off streak we all seem to have and partly real life kicking some behinds. Do feel free to ask if you have any questions or can't find what you need in the pinned threads, and stop by the Phoenix Lounge. Everyone's welcome to post there.

My other online handle is Rualirr which means star shine. Also, fascinating! I spent my day vending at a big local craft fair but I did come home with homemade ginger & blackcurrant wine as well as some handmade chocolate fudge, and apple & cinnamon tablet. I was shattered though so was in bed by 7.30pm lol. So not rock 'n' roll.

  11. Poledra. Named after David Eddings' character from The Belgariad series. Pol was lovely but sadly, as you say, pretty inactive after about 2009 time. Her mentor was Dwynwen (White) so if you click the link Liitha shared, you'll find Dwyn's info/tree in the first post of that linked thread. @Liitha Salome was a Yellow.
  12. I have quite a lot of family in Canada, mainly New Brunswick, and quite a few still serving military too. It's the one country I'd really like to visit above all others.
  13. Ohh which reminds me, the 2008 TV adaptation for Sky One of The Colour of Magic, based on the first two Discworld novels. Casting David Jason as Rincewind was inspired, not to mention the rest of the stellar cast comprising Tim Curry, Jeremy Irons, Sean Astin, James Cosmo, Brian Cox, and Christopher Lee as Death! Icing on the cake was a small cameo role by TP himself.

  15. (Apologies to those who see this twice but obviously not everyone is in all Clubs and the WT is every bit as much about Service as the Band is about military service!) Today is Remembrance Sunday in the UK and throughout the Commonwealth. It commemorates the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts. We hold Remembrance services at 11am on the second Sunday in November, nearest to Armistice Day. Armistice Day is, of course, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War in 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Today, I remember the following people. My paternal Grandfather, Hallie James, who served with the Canadian North Nova Scotia Highlanders and died in combat in Holland, 1945. My maternal Grandfather, Jack Burton, who served at various times with the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards, Derbyshire Constabulary and R.E.M.E. He then served post war with the Special Investigation Branch in Berlin, hunting war criminals and bringing them to justice. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. - Laurence Binyon

  18. Welcome back, Caladesh. I only know the name from the Timeline too, as Jagen mentioned. I joined DM in 2006 so missed all that excitement.
