GoT Mafia "A Song of Wolves and Villagers"

Okay, I'm here for a bit. Like Marsh, I'm gone on Sundays.

First of all, in order to help explain everything else, I want to answer the brief questionnaire. My greatest strength (although it is arguably also my biggest weakness) as town is that I am very, very, determined to solve. I use whatever methods necessary to stir up the pot and make people interact with each other in a way that it is easier to read their intentions. The unfortunate side-effect, however, is that I often end up looking suspicious myself.

This isn't going to look especially good for me, but in the interests of answering honestly, my biggest strength as Mafia is convincing people I'm town. I'm definitely a stronger Mafia member than town member, simply because everyone things I'm Mafia when I'm town and everyone thinks I'm town when I'm Mafia. I suppose it boils down to the fact that I usually don't worry as much about convincing people that I'm town when I really am. I instead concentrate on figuring things out. Since I'm better at being Mafia, I'd have to say I prefer it, but that's only because I don't usually do quite as well when I'm town.

Now, for my reads of Marsh and Socio. Marsh's response to Darthe's prediction struck me as slightly off, but it wasn't super substantial. That's what pinged me at first, although since that time, I have become sufficiently convinced that I'll write that one off as a fluke.

Socio is a little different. To be perfectly honest, when I went back to look at his first posts, I have absolutely no earthly idea what could possibly have possessed me to think he was suspicious. However, after my initial suggestion, he has acted slightly suspect in response. He's said some really off-stuff. I was initially fine with letting him off the hook for his defensiveness (I mean, I just suggested he might be Mafia), but it seemed way off the charts for the low-key, unsubstantiated claim that I had made.

Ironically, while I had no real reason to suspect him before, his later responses have actually made me more suspicious. I would really like to see his actual response to this.

I've been trying to methodically compile reasons to believe and/or mistrust everyone here. Unfortunately, I don't have the advantage of having played with any of you before, and therefore, I don't know what to expect. I suspect several of my readings will be way, way, off, but I fully intend to do the best I can with what I have.

Court is now in session.

Beads, besides Socio has anything else stuck out to you? Anyone you’re feeling particularly positive about?

OK, running through thoughts as quickly as I can, mostly because I need to start getting ready for work ASAP, and I won't be able to post a lot of substance once I get to work because call center work in a building with a terrible data network connection and filtered/monitored internet access is not conducive to long and involved posts that require actual THOUGHT.   (Not going to dwell on last game.... breathe deep..... inhale... exhale..... goosfraba....)

6. @David Hermes - not checked in yet
8. @Krakalakachkn - not checked in yet
17. @BFG - not checked in yet

Of the rest...

1. Kaylee
2. Kat
3. Cory

4. AJ
5. Blackhoof
9. Hallia
10. Iron
11. Beads
12. Darthe
13. Dice
14. The Sociopath
15. Bard Babe
16. Nyn

Probably town:

My gut read right now is that I feel the best about Cory and AJ, who are both perfectly capable of blindsiding me with their pure evil.  Cory I will generally be pretty comfortable with by mid-D2 depending on how day 1 turns out.  AJ has blown me away with his capacity for extreme deepwolfing but as of right now, he seems to be noticing the same subtle things I have and I suspect that he might be a little more.... exhausted? if he'd gotten YET ANOTHER mafia role PM.

Possibly town:

Marsh generally comes across as slightly awkward and a little bit scummy in most games, and I see nothing that feels any different here than his last few town games.

I've gotten worse at reading Dice over the years, it seems, but I'm cautiously optimistic so far.

Nyn feels a little more prickly than I expected but I think that can be explained by non-alignment factors, and I generally like what I've seen from her at the moment.  I did note her strange reluctance to pick on Darthe, for what it's worth.  I'm not sure it means much, but I'll keep it in mind for the future.

Mixed/unable to read at the moment:

Darthe is Darthe-ing it up as always.

Hallia seems strangely aggressive to me and I'm not sure why.

I'm in wait and see mode on Kaylee right now.  We have talked in person many times over the years about how we read each other.  She knows what I'm looking for from her, and I know she knows, and she knows I know she knows, so it's a bit of a WIFOM tangle.  I'll know when I know.

Kat is as expected for D1 - completely inactive on the weekend, and not venturing any game thoughts just yet.  There's no use pressing her for any in my experience.  We'll see how D2 goes.

Hoof has been out of the game too long and has contributed too little for me to be comfortable venturing an opinion just yet.  (And as I recall, has a tendency to get himself lynched D1 when he does contribute. )

The bottom of the list:

Beads

Bard Babe

Socio

These three are the ones I have the least familiarity with, which tells me I'm probably missing something.

I found it a bit pingy that Bard Babe chose to respond to AJ's question to Beads as her first post of the game.

I am rather curious about the Beads/Socio thing that appears to be developing further even as we type.

And I will do my level best to check in as often as I can before deadline.

It might not be, who knows.

for me, there's just something about BB that bugs me. I read her posts and it's just feels eh. Plus she kinda went with the flow of the conversation in the thread and didn't really contribute much of anything. Granted not much to go by but we still got time to discuss things.

It's just really difficult where there are players like Krak and I think Hermes who haven't even checked in.... maybe even more. And at some point I feel like I'm just chasing my own tail cause some players aren't weighing in.

I'm relatively neutral on Socio right now, but based on my preliminary investigation, I am curious how people are reading Blackhoof? There were a couple of things that stuck out to me, but as Tress said, perhaps that's just how he is. Honestly, I'm pretty clueless as to where to start. I have some notes, but that's about it.

You know me, I just like being sarcastic. I feel like this game as a good enough core being established that POE will be pretty good regardless of toDay’s outcome.

I can see the suspicion on BB for somewhat cliche reasons. Answering for Beads was awkward, and sort of implicates him a little bit in my mind, but that could also just be her unaware of etiquette.

BFG hasn’t checked in either :(

I'm not sure her answering for a noob means much. It's an easy opening to post and try to come off natural. ie I don't think it necessarily ties them together.

I have zero experience with BlackHoof that I can remember, so not much of a baseline admittedly. I thought his post about Marsh/Socio read well but I’d agree more with Nyn that I don’t think defensiveness is always a bad indication unless it’s disproportionate to the situation. He’s an old timer DMafia player though, and those stigmas were pretty popular. Overall pretty neutral along with the other quieter players.

I wouldn't say it's a crapshoot, there's things to go on

@Songstress - "Hallia seems strangely aggressive to me and I'm not sure why." - Uhhhh; where?  I don't think I'm being aggressive at all O.o

I don't see how the Bard Babe thing impiicates beads at all, or I don't see why that couldn't come from w/v perspective

That’s fine. It’s something I considered at least but I’m weird and look for those sort of underbelly motives. Given how it came across at the time it stuck out to me.

I was a little concerned that he seemed to be trying to throw a lot of shade around, and he voted for Socio without much to go on. The argument against Socio was really weak, tbh. He seemed really aggressive, especially when first posting. My opinion is not solidified, though.

I don't have a strong feel on anyone quite yet.

my issue with her entrance / content is more that it seems tailored specifically to draw as little attention to her as possible

Fwiw your thing about what old you would say reinforced my idea a little more. So I blame you

I don't really have anything especially negative on BardBabe yet. Admittedly, my reasoning comes from the understanding that I'm town. I feel like Mafia would be plenty happy to support the lynching of someone who isn't Mafia and drew suspicion away from them. The next thing is a bit odd: BB still showed signs of suspecting me, which is a relatively town-like action.

@Cory Caboose You do make a good point about her entrance being a little too nice/normal. I think it may be wise to keep that in mind in the future.

Whatever happens, I want to be sure we're not hasty to lynch anyone. We do need to make a decision relatively quickly, since the deadline is in 5 hours, but that shouldn't be an excuse for not being as thorough as we can given the information we have.

BTW, am I even allowed to say who my coach is?

Your mentor? I don't see why not but you're welcome to double check with the mods first.

I was just curious who it was.
