Character Development Threads

These threads should be done for every Sister. Posted on this board, they will serve two purposes: First, each should include an "Aes Sedai Bio" at the top that tells us about your character and what other Sisters in the Ajah would know or perceive about her (for example, your personality, your general views, past actions, etc.). Since biographies of characters often do not include their time in the Tower (and cannot be edited after approval), this fixes that problem.

Second, the threads will help keep track of old RPs any one particular character was involved with; ideally, all the RPs you've done (that are still available, anyway) should be linked on this thread. Why? Because it's fun to read other people's stories and learn about their character! More practically speaking, though, they help you to keep track of what you have done over a long period of time, and fellow Ajah members may desire to know what their Sisters have been up to these years. We also can learn better about your character this way.

Each Sister should have her own thread, though there need only be one post per thread. The post can be edited to add in new RPs as they are completed.

These are separate from Monthly RP Reporting (see below), which is its own thread.

The desired format is below:

Quote

Character as an Aes Sedai:

[Blurb here; what other sisters would know about your sister].

Role-play History

Arranged from oldest on bottom to newest at the top (in terms of IC timeline).

2018

  • RP Title/Link Here
  • RP Title/Link Here

2017

Role-play Reporting

Preferably, RP reporting should be done on a monthly basis. For any role-play threads your Sister is involved in, please report here (Link TBD). This is separate, and more detailed, from your personal character development thread. This is where the Ajah Head will come to gather information to pass on to the WT Staff, keeping track of Active sisters.

Current Blue Ajah Projects/RPs

This section will list any current Ajah-wide, open or important RPs.

Major/ Important Ajah RPs (WIP) - The List goes from Most Recent (at the top) to the Oldest (at the bottom). This list includes Ajah-related RPs and sometimes major/important Tower RPs that your character could have reasonably taken part in (like Caladesh's attack on the WT).

One Last Stand: 999 NE. Caladesh, a Dreadlord/M’aeshadar, wreaks havoc in the White Tower; Lyanna (Keeper) is killed, among others, and Lanfir (Amyrlin) was burnt out and disappeared. (Caladesh was murdered by Lanfir in his cell; public knowledge is only that he was executed by the White Tower).

One Last Stand: [Link 1] [Link 2] [Link 3] [Link 4] [Link 5]

Little Pieces of Chaos (999NE) - Meranda Sedai (NSW) - Sirayn visits Meranda's rooms with intentions to seek revenge. She recruits Meranda to...something. Thread topics cover self harm, incest and sexual abuse so avoid this RP if these are triggers for you.

Jagen forms a plan to use Elyssa's experience but is run off by Estel when they reach the Blue's quarters. Elyssa then speaks with Estel and also Corrine'dei Susten and they discuss the new Red Amyrlin along with the Blue's waning influence in the Tower. Nastasia steps into the room and upbraids Corinne about her lack of self control, stating it may be time to replace her as First Selector. She instructs Estel and Elyssa to call the other Sisters and to prepare the Sapphire Chamber.

Ajah Politics

Current Allies: Brown, White

Neutral/Undecided: Yellow, Green

Opposition: Gray, Red

The list is arranged, in general, from our strongest allies to our strongest opponents. Keep in mind that the list is mostly a guideline, and an Ajah may sway any way depending on the matter at hand.

  • Brown: Historically speaking, Brown often support the Blue against the Yellow in Hall affairs. They have been at odds with the Green ever since the disaster at Namandar (an AoL city which an expedition from the WT was sent to investigate). Browns also were against the Green after Karana was deposed and stilled (for knowing about the DR and not telling the Hall), Lanfir replacing her on the Amyrlin Seat.
  • White: In The Shadow Rising, it is said: "There was no love lost between Red and White; they had stood on opposite sides in the Hall of the Tower for a thousand years. White stood with Blue... But Whites prided themselves on dispassionate logic." They are considered an ally.
  • Yellow: The Brown, Blue and Yellow Ajah formed an alliance against the Greens after Lanfir went back on her word to chose a Blue Keeper, choosing a fellow Green instead. This angered all three Ajahs. Before that, for the past hundred years, the Yellow Ajah had had a tense relationship with the Blue Ajah. This is due to an incident that occurred in Altara, with sisters of each Ajah accusing the other of interfering.
  • Green: Ajah relations with the Green and Blue have seen few breaks in their accord for several centuries. The Green, while historically allies, have become less so since they formed a faction with the Gray and Red Ajahs. The Blue opposed the Green when Lanfir went back on her word to chose a Blue Keeper, choosing a fellow Green instead. The Greens supported raising of Shevara to Amyrlin Seat, which Blues were the last to stand for.
  • Gray: Grays are strongly allied with the Red and Green, putting them mostly in opposition to the Blue.
  • Red: The Blues were the last to stand for raising Shevara to Amyrlin Seat after Annais died. [Quoted from KeyHolder21: There is long standing animosity with the Red Ajah. (Only two Amyrlin Seats have ever been removed from office, both Red and both replaced with Blues.) Now, make no mistake, the Blues don’t dislike the Reds on sheer principle or even necessarily because they seek to gentle males… however where the problem comes in, is that Reds and Blues agree on the problem but not the solution. Blues for example are particularly passionate about their causes as are the Reds, this combined with the idea that Blues work towards cures to problems while Reds are about prevention makes them a volatile mix. Reds see Blues as meddlers who don’t know when to give up, while Blues view Reds as women stuck in tradition who are afraid to do whatever it takes to solve the problem for all eternity. Reds also see Blues as cold, not caring who or what they hurt in getting the “cure” to whatever problem they’re working on… Blues see Reds as cold because they are so concerned with preventing problems that they are blind that the problems they wish to prevent will always be there if no “cure” is found. So it is often said that two Ajahs who are both so passionate are likely to never see eye to eye. As such no Blue Sister ever wears the color red to demonstrate a unity in their dislike of the Red Ajah and their ways and vice versa.]

DM Blue Ajah Customs

  • Every new Sister is given a Staff when she is raised to the Shawl and asked to add something personal to the Staff. When she returns to the Creator (i.e. dies) the staff is passed to another Blue. Each Staff given is a legacy of the Ajah and a symbol of Ajah pride as much as the Shawl is… and it's less conspicuous.
  • A sister may bond only one Warder, but this can be an Asha'man.

Ajah Facts and Customs from the Books

  • The Head of the Blue Ajah, who no one but our Blue Sisters knows the identity of, is called the First Selector.
  • Never wearing red inside the Tower, though red gemstones are allowed
  • Wearing all blue the first of each month
  • Wearing blue stockings when leaving Tar Valon
  • Refraining from marriage. It is Blue Ajah custom that sisters should not marry so that they can instead focus on their duties and stand as example to the others of the Tower where our priorities should lay first and foremost.
  • Greeting the newest Blue sister with a kiss of welcome
  • Requiring the newly-raised Blue sister to bake a pie for the sixth member of the Blue to kiss her
  • Most recently raised Blue gives the shawl to the new Sister. Youngest Blue lays shawl on shoulders of new Sister and welcomes them to the Blue Ajah. Then they are taken back to the Ajah Hallway where all Blues welcome them clad in their own shawls.
  • An ancient tradition involved all newly-raised sisters (not just Blue) to walk to the halls of her Ajah clad only in her shawl, but this was abandoned a long time ago. All that remains of this custom is that the hallways of the Tower must be kept clear until the new Aes Sedai reaches the quarters of her Ajah.
  • During the tour the tour guide (an older sister) tells the new sister about customs and traditions of the Ajah.

Eyes-and-Ears Signals

While only a few Sisters in an Ajah know who heads the Ajah's Eyes-and-Ears, signals, which are taught to all sisters within the Ajah, are put out for when they have an urgent message to give any sister of the Ajah that happens by. Signals are only put out when the message is important and must be received as soon as time allows.

Important Weaves

These are weaves you will learn as a Blue sister.

  • A secret weave that controls insects.
  • A weave that induces fear

Asyndara is indeed the Ajah Head :). When I was the Head for a short time, I picked her. I have an email between Elgee, or maybe Tay, and I. I can send it to you if you'd like. We liked her because she had an interesting story. She was a candidate for Amyrlin, then banished, then came back after the split.

A priority -- I have now confirmed from RP sources and external sources (Estel's off-site archives) that Corrine’dei Susten is the First Selector - But where is the bio for the First Selector? And is she an NSW or an OC? I'm assuming an NSW but this needs confirmation.

No, I know but this doesn't make sense. Asyndara is the current NSW Head. Not sure how anything Estel has could be subsequent to that. She's not been active at DM.

I know we were wondering yesterday how Asyndara could still be exiled from the Tower but she clearly isn't. Key states that she returned to the Tower in her post up there ^^^.

The problem with Asyndara was that she was permanently exiled from the Tower for running for Amyrlin and losing. Her bio says as much. There are also no IC threads (or OOC ones for that matter) I could find related her to coming back, much less becoming HoA. That was the issue.

So there is evidence for Corrine'dei taking over but not Asyndara. IIRC.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way against making changes going forward. Having an Ajah Head who is in exile permanently is completely unfeasible.

My point is that, if Key as OOC Head in agreement with Kath as Group Leader, decided that Asynadra is the NSW Head, then Head she is until something concrete happens to replace her (starting with Kath's agreement). I'm sure they had their reasons for the choice.

If an Ajah hasn't been active, which the Blues most certainly haven't, and their RP's have been mainly character led, then it's no wonder their Ajah Head hasn't been mentioned, especially given she's not in the actual Tower. It doesn't negate her existence. Speak to Kath about changing the Head by all means, but let's not change the facts or post inaccurate facts until that's been done, okies?

  • 2 weeks later...

Not many hugely important RP's. This was most of what I could find. The rest consisted of Blue Ajah classes, Testings and Oaths.

Changing Tides - Regalia - Blue/Yellow/White discussion about bonding Asha'man

Just Another Morning? - Serena Morrigan - Serena becomes the first member of The Order of the Rose at Sirayn Sedai of the Green Ajah's request. Their objective - to hunt the Black Ajah.

So, since Kath isn't replying I decided to have a look and see if we can't make a decision on the issue of the First Selector and establish a timeline.

Asyndara, according to the White Ajah RP you linked, was banished at the time of Lanfir's being chosen as Amyrlin.

When Lanfir was burned out and subsequently went missing, following the Caladesh RP, Sirayn became Amyrlin and by that time Corinne was the First Selector, replacing Sareine, because Sirayn comes to speak with her in the 'Old women and politics' RP. Corinne is still First Selector when Shevara becomes Amyrlin.

It's then mentioned IC'ly that Corinne was removed from office and I can find nothing to support her being reinstated. (The lead up to this replacement is in the 'A sorrowful return' RP linked above which ends with the Sapphire Chamber being readied.)

Quote

Nastasia paused, her tea halfway to her lips when she set it back down. "Estel, go round up the Sisters. I think it is time that we show our First Selector the appropriate side of reason. Elyssa, go see that the Sapphire Chambers are prepared. Summon any that you need." Shaking her head, it was sad to see how far gone the woman was. She waited for the women to leave before she turned to Corinne in a softer voice. "I am sorry for this, but if you are getting so defensive over your position it begs the question if you can handle it when under the pressures of the Hall and just the sisters of your own Ajah. You have done great things for us, but perhaps it is time to allow someone stronger to lead the way."

It looks like she was replaced by Serena Morrigan by December 2009. Serena was replaced by Elyssa by November 2010. I'm going by actual real world RP dates for this chronology.

I'm assuming the reason Asyndara was pulled back from banishment and reinstated was to do with OOC events that took a lot of the RP'ers of the time out of the equation. So it was essentially a decision from on high to fudge over the banishment issue. Removing her from the position wouldn't appear to impact any IC story lines from what I've read, (and as you already both mentioned), as none of them have been main plotline arcs; they've all been personal character development RP's.

Now that I've caught up/wrapped my head around it...is there any part of that you'd disagree with @Jagen Sedai?

* I'm not sure if Corinne was an NSW or not, she was written by AddiBeth (formerly Estel) in all the RP's I've seen.

* I'm tempted to suggest replacing all of them with a completely new NSW. One with no history of holding any positions or having banishments etc.

On another note, I see in one discussion thread, around July '09, that Nastasia was going to die (be murdered), @Arie? You mentioned that only a letter was going to be left, no body... do you recall any more about this or whether it ever happened IC?

Also, found another Blue bio who is also a Black Sister Diona sur Traemane Tapedera - there was mention of an eventual death for her too? Apparently whether there was a body left depended on the Black Ajah so I presume this was internal BA politics or somesuch?

The intent behind Nastasia being killed off likely stemmed from a turmoil relationship between the RP staff and myself. Diona was an character attempt at writing a Black. (Which I have long concluded I suck at).

Nastasia is easy to fill that space, she served as a Sitter and outside of that was generally a 'filler' character in the Blue. Originally started by Estel, I know i had her permission to take on back in 2009 if you wish to go that route. I doubt any super plan in 2009 really needs to be followed through and I feel that her .. heavy hand may put her in that position even if many don't actually like her.

I did wonder about that. Do you want to keep her as a PC or would you be happy enough with us co-opting her to be a NSW IC Head? She'd certainly fit the role given her history. I don't think we'd have to justify the how/why specifically, just make the decision, play it that way going forward and note it in the information post.

Cool. So to be clear, if we NSW her, she becomes WT/Ajah property and we'll add you as the assigned lead writer.

I need to drop Kath a message anyway so I'll mention it to her. It seems like a sane solution to the whole problem if everyone's happy.
