Do we get to see the scum qt?

no?
You know I'm going to refer you and dice to this next time you ask for a mafia Qt to be released before the scum team have ok'd it
I thought I'd seen Dice say he didn't mind, then Nyn said she'd love to share it. Thought it meant yes. *shrug*
Standard practice is to release it once all members have ok'd it

Ah, touche. That makes sense.

Ftr I fully accept responsibility for my part in the poop storm. Even though it was a joke, it hit buttons that you can't imagine, and I get that that is her/my problem. I should've let cooler heads prevail and taken it to the mod if I still had a problem. I do apologize for my overreaction to the remark. Once that was said and done everyone else reacted which is basically what this is all about. I'm sorry for that. My reaction is what initially started this all and I do apologize.

With that being said, I still feel there were a lot of lines crossed that shouldn't have been and I'm not only referring to stuff that was towards me.

But if the mods or admins want to punish me for doing what I done, i will accept without complaint an understand completely.

@Sooh. I apologized in the dt but I am apologizing here as well for bot taking the route I should have. Thank you for the game...I know you put a lot of time and work into it as did James.

Cory, I appreciate and recognise that all of that is correct. It is absolutely a game where you have to do your best not to take anything personally. However, it's also the type of game where, when it's over, you have to be able to say "I don't really think you're stupid, I hope we are good" or else people aren't going to know. That's the issue with the internet, you can't read tone, so if someone sees things in a different tone than implied, you have to step up and clear the air yourself. Admit when you're wrong, and make nice with everyone.

There will be as many unique vantage points in a game as there will be players.  God knows I will never understand how half of you reach the conclusions you do and you'll never understand the same of me, but as long as we respect the fact that we are all fundamentally playing to our wincon we can return to a state of mutual respect the moment the final flip has been posted.

My job as a villager is to correctly read your alignment and subsequently develop a productive method to work together with those I determine are town.  My job as a wolf is to read your thought process and present information which will make me look good in that light.  I placed too much stock in appealing to the people familiar with my playstyle in a field that on average was not, and it left me in an awkward position of needing to either change meta mid-stride or else pander to the villagers who I knew could see my content from a villagery POV in the hopes that they would hard defend me.  I aimed for that.  It failed.  If you fear I hold hard feelings, just remember who won.  My only regret to any losing outcome is having not played better, and I've lost enough games that even that is more of an armchair reflection on what I could have done better than any sort of lasting disappointment.

Re: shots fired, I recognize the value that emotion plays in a game, because our game persona is not some distinct and isolated reflection of our rational selves.  People get passionate about what they're doing, and those are honest emotions.  They seep into our tone and our persistence and our attitude, and often account for the "gut" feelings we have about people's alignments that we struggle to articulate.  When conviction leads to dismissing everything a player says and mocking their effort, I can either say "lol fine you got me" and roll over and die or I can harness my own frustration about losing my grip on the village to fake an emotional response appropriate for a villager who feels that they are being treated unfairly and that wolves may be among their assailants.  I overplayed it this game; that's just meta.  But I don't feel a moral obligation to avoid toying with people's emotions as scum just because I know it's laden with dishonesty, if I am cornered into a position where my town self would give an honest emotional response.  Otherwise I would be the easiest read in Mafia: players could just be a dick to me and judge me on whether I return fire.

And that's the difference I meant about a high octane game, not liberty to personally insult people to your heart's desire.  If we're all joking around and not putting our 100% towards winning, these emotions don't manifest.  Their frequency in a heavily invested game is a consequence, not a cause.  I prefer to keep the kid gloves on, and in a game of this nature that, for me, means respecting the possibility that my reads can be wrong.  That's something you'll see if you play with me long enough.  But when the gloves come off, I don't allow my alignment to restrain me from stepping up to the challenge.

We all think differently, and for me to suggest that I honestly think another player's style is inferior to mine is a ridiculous disservice to everyone who has ever fooled or caught me.  What I say in a game is fundamentally a part of the game and goes to the grave with everything else the moment the final flip is posted.  There is a very easy way to judge which team played better in a well-balanced game: it's called winning.

I wrote something after D2 that I want to share, mainly for Nyn's sake. It's not meant to shame anyone, but rather perhaps to inspire discussion and to explain my actions.

Re: drama

I really want to stress what I said in the midst of it all. It's super important that you use your game host as a moderator if you are offended in a game. We have the distinct advantage that we can discretely figure out intent, and in most cases because we're a close knit community that knows one another well we can accurately figure out if anything was meant insultingly or not. Please PRIVATELY message your host if you feel insulted. It will keep our games so much nicer.

I didn't like the decision I was forced to make D2 in this game. Nyn's initial post was a quote from a popular tv show, nothing more. She didn't mean to insult anyone with it, but rather use it as a sort of a tongue in cheek comment. She couldn’t know that it would be so offensive to someone. It was unfair that only she should be punished for what was essentially escalated by several parties. It was, however, the easiest solution, given that she was in a hydra and the other half could continue alone.

The alternative, which I considered, would be to end the game there and then. Given the survivor's wincon I couldn't modkill more slots, and I don't think that would have been a good solution for anyone.

Ultimately I feel like I made the best decision possible at the time, but I'm sorry that Nyn had to suffer for this.

I hope that we can make something good come out of this, in that we might possibly come to an agreement that we should allow the hosts to take care of perceived insults and not drag that into the thread. Mafia is a heated game. We're essentially just screaming at one another and accusing others of lying, when the only thing they're guilty of is that they've received a message saying they're part of the informed minority. At the end of the day, I hope that we can walk away from games feeling like we've been actually playing a GAME, not something deadly serious.

In addition to that, the Darthe modkill:

N1 was a pretty bad night seen with the mafia's eyes. Not only did they hit the one person with a BPV, they were also peeked and Darthe was essentially derp clear on the basis of his series of night posts. In order to re-balance the game some I decided to go with a modkill to at least give the mafia a fighting chance.

Other questions or comments about moderation or balance are welcome. I know some of you felt that a survivor with a F6 wincon was perhaps not basic enough. I'm taking that with me for next time I'll run a game.

Id hope you would have killed me anyhow. Fairness is about being impartial, and it would be unfair if you only killed me because the other team needed the help.

And that might be a bad approach to the game.  It would be more appropriate from a peacekeeping perspective to turn the other cheek, perhaps just privately inform the mod if you feel that you are being treated unfairly.  It's not so easy when villagers are often far less self-aware than wolves, and when one person's scum hunting tactic is another person's personal slander.  But it's an option; probably a better option.  The best I can tell you is that when I play for high stakes I lay myself out in a game in my entirety, the good and the bad, and I am entirely aware that I can be a bit of a douche bag.

GG guys, I'm sorry I couldn't be more present and apologies for my crappy indecisiveness - This game practically my worst nightmare for that, being behind and all of the players I know best personally/want so bad to be Town with me every game were on the other side.

DPR I was worried but gut wise after re-reading yesterday his actions came off more Townie than Shad's to me.

Cuth, I was sus of you for aaallllll the otters, but I love the way you use them and it's always a pleasure to have you play

I'm sorry for what happened from my part. I felt hurt by the implication that I would use personal attacks to further myself in the game. It's not something I would do as either alignment and i felt like my character was being put in question. I also got agitated that I was asked to leave the game as consequence. Seemed unfair to me but at the same time I didn't really want to keep playing anyhow so it was mixed emotions.

Obviously didn't mean to offend anyone. Was just trying to entertain people. Obviously people weren't entertained. I'll take that into consideration.  Also I didn't read the DT up until recently so I didn't realize an apology had even been made. So that's why I wasn't quite letting it go. Again, sorry.

You know what helps with all of this? Another game. Throw some dirt on it and lets get it on.

Thank you for that, not for me but for her. I know she will say something aa well but of course I wanted to out my two cents in.

You couldn't have know that something so silly would cause that reaction and after I calmed down I realized that. I acted in the heat of the moment when she was so tore up and done stuff I shouldn't have. After Sooh said itt to let it go basically. I knew I couldn't apologize itt without breaking that rule so I had to wait until I died. Which was inevitable after my insane reveal.

Again, I was wrong to imply that you were taking it to a personal level, I was wrong to freak out itt and I completely understand that.

I can handle anything thrown at me specifically but I've spent my life trying to protect my sister because of the times I couldn't protect her. It was a very emotional response and while that's no excuse, I hope you can at least understand on some level. Again, thank you all for the game and again, I apologize for the poop storm it created and the results.

I plan another hiatus so hopefully I'll catch you guys soon.

Noooooooooo, I thought there was a risk, but I wanted to get you interacting and talking. Would've been awesome if we could've picked up with the next posts of yours, which had more than a couple of words - I struggle so hard with you early on and would prefer to have more to figure you out!

This was a super entertaining game overall, and I laughed out loud when I realized Shad self-voted and opened up the opportunity for BFG to accidentally win it for town as well as herself
