  1. Portrait: [Link] [Art by me]

    Character as an Aes Sedai:

Known to have a temper as fiery as her hair during her novice and some of her Accepted years, Jagen was raised Aes Sedai in 838 NE when Kathana Travelear was Amyrlin and Sabine was Mistress of Novices. There were only a few Ajahs which interested Jagen when she was Accepted, but Red took the cake. She was very close to choosing White, but felt she did not need to be part of them to pursue her own interests--though she speaks often enough of logic and reason to have gone White. She had little interest in being cooped up in the library, though she loves books, learning and teaching, so no Brown for her. However, with the Red, Jagen felt she not only had some versatility, but also one of the most worthy, and challenging, causes of the Tower. The idea of men channeling also frightens her. From her first day in the Tower, she knew she wanted to gentle them all, for the world's safety and their own. Joining the Red would also allow Jagen to travel far and wide in her pursuits. And though hard to convey otherwise, joining the Red had always felt 'right' for her. As soon as she was raised, Jagen's enthusiasm was set to begin working for her Ajah's goals. She is one of the strongest women in the Power at the White Tower, and a hard woman deeply set in her duty.

Being a bookworm herself, while in the Tower she spends a lot of time in or around the Library (without the obligations of the Browns). She has a history of teaching novices and Accepted before she became a Sitter, a rank she obtained recently. Her specialty area of study is observing the Heavens. She has been known to visit a shop in Tar Valon run by a Sea Folk man who makes lenses, and she has built telescopes and shared some of her observations with other curious sisters. She has also used her telescopes in lessons.

For casual hobbies, Jagen has and sometimes plays a cello, which she has used more than once in a noble's court. She has close friends in the White and Brown Ajahs. For companionship outside of other Sisters, she also has animals she cares for; two horses and an owl she adopted after it was found injured on one of her rides.

Jagen has also been known to leave the Tower often, and in the course of the last 30 years only returned a short time about once every two or three years; enough to gather news, reconnect, and then leave again, before returning again in 1000 NE and soon after raised as a Sitter, of which she is the youngest. She can weave gateways, which she learned upon returning to the Tower. Even before the Traveling weave was discovered, however, Jagen made a point to visit major cities and small towns alike, searching for girls to bring to the Tower. She knew how empty the novice and Accepted quarters were when she was there, and is determined to see them filled.

Jagen supported the motion to bring in Salidar novices--women who were older, but could still potentially become Aes Sedai. Initially against the idea of bonding Asha'man, when it was proposed by the Highest, she volunteered (sarcastically) to be the first to bond--and angered when it came to pass that the Asha'man agreed, she was forced to uphold her promise.

  2. So, I have a new proposal and direction I'm going to have Jagen do for us in the main timeline.

I'm going to wait awhile before posting it, depending on what happens over the next month or two and if we decide to jump the timeline or push it back.

There will be two prongs to this. While the Reds' mission has always been to hunt down and gentle men woh can channel, now that that is no longer an option, they must work alongside them instead. At some point it is going to occur to Jagen that, even though she disagrees with the method of teaching the Asha'man employ, that it does indeed work for [most] of them.

In that end, Prong 1: Jagen may well propose that, at least until the Last Battle (and not past it!), girls who wish to "rush" their training should be allowed to, so as many novices and Accepted (or, perhaps, just Accepted) will be ready for the Last Battle and able to participate.

Prong 2: Go collecting girls in the countryside and cities, ramping up efforts to locate women who can channel. In the books, the Pattern is spewing out girls with the ability more than ever before (at least, it did around the time tDR was also born). These girls need to be found, and a grinding schedule of locating them and training them as fast as possible should be employed--but only if those girls agree to rigorous training practices.

It will be interesting, in the least. (At least how the proposal will go!)

  3. I have Starbucks almost every day <3  I LOVE coffee. I am definitely a coffee nut. Er, coffee bean. Hehehehe.

Actually, it's been my dream to work for Starbucks for years, and only recently (2016) was I able to do so. I loveeeee white mochas (which I just finished). Recently, we came out with blonde espresso and I would encourage every coffee drinker to try it. I love sweet espresso drinks, but if I do have drip coffee, it must be unsweeted, and dark roast. I love Starbucks' Verona the best, but the best dark roast I've EVER tasted was from India; it was one of our Reserve coffees called "Tata Nulore Estate."

  4. I don’t see it making a big difference, honestly. The biggest thing is just this:

    - Do we keep that Maegan was Highest, but lost her position to Phaedra after getting caught at the BT?

    or

    - We forget that Maegan was ever Highest, give it to Phaedra from the start, and just say that Maegan nonethless helped with the idea of bonding to gain traction.

Ideally one of those seems easiest. Especially since it has already been expressed and established that IC Ajah heads must be NSWs.

Please chose whichever of those sounds best to you.

  5. For some reason I am under the impression it was a different Highest, Zarinen, who first proposed Bonding Asha’man. (I have the thread linked in our Information thread). I’ve spent the past two days at home reading old Ajah related threads and I cannot recall seeing Maegan in those discussions (not the ones that took place inside the WT, anyway). I DID see that Shevara became a Sitter after “Muirenn and Maegan got captured” (by the BT??) but that was all.

If it cleans up the timeline, we could say Maegan was overlooked. But you know, the Reds also have a council that works with the Highest (this isn’t named in the books but IS revealed in the WoT Companion)... maybe Maegan could be a council member? Seems like a possible good solution.

  6. In interest of cleaning up the timeline, I've gone through to do some suggestive corrections.

My suggestion, to keep everything tidy: Change the dates of reigns for these three Amyrlins to match the timeline bracket suggestions, instead of the other way around.

     - “Corrected Dates of Reign” are my own numbers.

    - “Timeline Discrepancy” is what is written on the official timeline as the Raising date.

For the Age Bracket decisions to make sense (on who was Amyrlin when any age group character was raised to the shawl), then the following must be the dates for the Amyrlins' reign:

    Kathana
"Sisters in the 90 - 210 Age Bracket are Raised to Sister under Kathana as Amyrlin."
Corrected Years of Reign: 790 NE - 910 NE

    Timeline Discrepancy:
866 NE - Kathana Travelear is Raised to the Stole. Many Keepers. (Brown)

    Parania
"210 - 280 Age Bracket are Raised to Sister under Parania as Amyrlin."
Corrected Years of Reign: 720 NE - 790 NE

    Timeline Discrepancy:
817 NE - Parania Demalle is Raised to the Stole. (Gray) - 49 Year Reign

    Zeranda
"Sisters in the 280+ Age Bracket are Raised to Sister under Zeranda as Amyrlin."
Corrected Years of Reign: ???-720 NE (the latest date she could possibly have served).

    Timeline Discrepancy:
797 NE - Zeranda Tyrim is Raised to the Stole. (Brown)

Other Corrections: Push back the dates of all previous Amyrlins, but keep the same amount of years.

    Thoughts? @Kathleen @Taymist

  7. OOC: I know this topic is old, but I've been reading over old threads and I really want to respond to it.

    **************************

Jagen stood quite still as she watched the Accepted take her Oaths. Her sister, now, a fellow Aes Sedai. She remembered Jasmyne as being a rather wild novice; she seemed to recall there was not a day in a three year time span when Jasmyne wasn't at the Mistress of Novices' office. Watching her eyes widen as the first Oath was taken reminded the Taraboner of her own raising in this very room. All of them shared this ceremony. It made them closer, and stronger.

She stood holding a shawl she stitched herself; upon joining the Reds, she had taken to help making them. The cloth was a beautiful bright red, as bright as the long red fringe that hung upon it. She was not actually expecting Jasmyne to walk forward toward them, and when she did, Jagen's lips turned up very slightly in a proud smile. She felt victorious every time a new Aes Sedai walked triumphantly toward their Ajah.

"If it pleases you, Aes Sedai, I seek admittance into the Red Ajah."

The Taraboner moved her arms to open the shawl, and had to stop in minor surprise when she heard a thump, turning around to see what had occurred. The Mistress of Novices had fainted? Fool woman, she thought for a moment. But the ceremony beckoned.

The most senior among them stepped forward to remove Jasmyne's Great Serpent ring, as was their custom. She kissed it and placed the ring on Jasmyne's right hand. No longer did she need to wear it solely on the third finger of her left hand; she could wear it where she pleased.

Jagen then opened the shawl and placed it on Jasmyne's shoulders. As she stood with her hands there, she said, "Welcome, Sister, to your new home."

Then Zarinen and the Reds present spoke together in the ceremonious conclusion, "The Red Ajah welcomes you, Sister."

  8. Jagen took another tiny sip of the tea. Her blue eyes watched Nox for a time before she pointedly turned her body to face Adrim more than Nox. "Perhaps today, it is not the best time," she told him. "There are... rules... to linking. It is not surprising you have not linked before. Two men alone cannot link--this combines their power. But two men and one woman may, or a man and a woman." This certainly confirmed that, yet again, they were only children in use of the One Power. Even if they could kill with it.

Then again, a novice, even she can kill with the One Power, properly trained or not. "But you should know about linking ahead of time, before it is even attempted," she stressed, and her eyes flicked to Nox. "Including that whoever leads such a linked circle has control over it, and you cannot simply let go of the One Power. The leader, they are leading the circle and must do that. Thus even if you decide to try to get out of a circle, you cannot, and it should only be performed with those one trusts." She sipped the tea again. "Even had Nox agreed, I would not link you today. But in the future, I may be willing."

It stunned her at times how quickly her own attitude had changed about Asha'man. Or perhaps it had not--only her method of handling had changed. She had to adaptable to an extent, after all, though she still considered these men dangerous creatures. Even when she was a newer sister she realized the importance of bending on certain issues to address the situation. One had to be somewhat malleable.

Still, there was information she purposely did not tell them about linking, not yet, anyway. She gave a nod, long, beaded braids clicking together. "Perhaps this can be considered the beginning of a... partnership. Though that has already begun. I was part of the first group, Adrim, to even brooch the subject of bonding men who can channel. I am here as an ally, not en enemy."

  9. Yes, indeed! I made this based off of the WT timeline and coming across snippets in old RP threads. As guessed though, I didn't come across any explaining the Whites' or Yellows' relationship with the Red, and I'm assuming the Blues are against us as a matter of course. :p

  10. Hello all,

I've done a bit of research into Ajah Politics for placement on the Red Board, but I wanted to share this here. I also was hoping to hash out with @Kathleen on relations between the Yellows and Reds (the last RP of which was conducted was the Shadows Eye RP, and I actually do not know anything right now beyond the name).

But here is what I placed on the Red Board:

    (UPDATED: April 26th, 2018)

    Quote

    Ajah Politics

    Current Allies: Gray, Green
    Neutral/Undecided: Brown

    Opposition: Yellow, White, Blue

The list is arranged from our strongest allies to our strongest opponents. Keep in mind that the list is mostly a guideline, and an Ajah may sway any way depending on the matter at hand.

    • Gray: The Gray has supported the Red to oppose a change in the gentling law (which stated male channelers should be studied before being gentled; this was obviously passed before the Cleansing). They also sided with the Red after another law change requiring Sisters leaving from the WT to dangerous missions to have the Hall's permission. Grays and Greens often support each other in the Hall. They supported raising Shevara to the Amyrlin Seat.
    • Green: Maegan, the former Highest, formed an alliance with the Green Ajah in late 999 NE, and have continued good relations since the Greens sided with the Reds against allowing researching of the channelers to happen instead of just gentling them. Greens and Grays often support each other in the Hall. They supported raising Shevara to the Amyrlin Seat.
    • Brown: The Brown Ajah has been at odds with the Greens ever since the disaster at Namandar (an AoL city which an expedition from the WT was sent to investigate), but we've not seen any negative effects towards the Reds. However, it is likely that we will support the Greens over the Browns in most Hall proposals, as there is a Blue-Brown-Yellow faction in the Hall. The Browns supported raising Shevara to the Amyrlin Seat. Thus they are considered mostly neutral, bordering on opposition.
    • Yellow: The Yellows have an alliance with the Brown and Blue in the Hall, against the Green-Red-Gray faction. One of the three Sitters stood the first time to support Shevara to the Amyrlin Seat, and then all stood when asked a second time; they were the third-to-last to stand.
    • White: They were the second-to-last to stand for a Red to be Amyrlin Seat. In The Shadow Rising, it is said: "There was no love lost between Red and White; they had stood on opposite sides in the Hall of the Tower for a thousand years. White stood with Blue... But Whites prided themselves on dispassionate logic."
    • Blue: Little explanation needed. Blues were displeased at standing for a Red to be Amyrlin Seat; they were the last to stand for Shevara.

If anything can be added to this, for any Ajah, please let me know!

  11. I had a particular way I want to do it, and I'm not sure if I can.

Already I have two FL characters; two Seanchan--one is a der'sul'dam; the other a so'jhin. Through those two I write for a whole house (House Elioth). Being able to do this is really good for inter-FL and inter-div RPs, because I can be up for anything and can be on the other side of a battle.

Similarly, I have been wanting Sea Folk characters for yearssss, but the key there is the plural. I ideally want to play three--a Sailmistress, her sister and Windfinder, and her cousin/Cargomaster that ends up leaving the ship upon learning he can channel (so he'll end up being a BT character later).

My question is, can I submit a double bio together for the sisters? I suspect because Zale will become a BT member I'll have to submit his separately, but is it okay to submit a single bio for the sisters? Either way, through them I plan on controlling a whole ship crew, but I'm guessing this will not be a problem.

  12. 4 hours ago, Kathleen said:

You could always  split one of the topics up into two classes so they have to reply twice, or you could add a activity. For the yellows we have them go to the garden and try to pick out poison plants and then plant their own. I’m not sure what the Reds could do

I thought about this, and I'm also having trouble coming up with a solution. Still, when I hear your update, once things have been decided, OR if I come up with something to add, I'll add a sixth post in, somehow. Maybe "Tea with a Red", where the student gets this one opportunity to talk fairly casually with a Sister! :D
