The cory meta talk wasn't a cop out, it was an extension on my original answer which BFG asked more about even though I thought my original post was satisfactory

Kinda is though. I understand that Cory gets NKed a lot and tends to be good at what he does as town. But there's more to it then checking his pulse and seeing if he lynches scum. It's HELPS, but shouldn't be the main point. Not to mention that assessing him and sharing your thoughts reflects back on you and helps to form a read on you as well. Which is something you'd want to do.

Eh, the point I was trying to make was what your read on Cory is now

My read on cory is hesitant town

Ironeyes: I need to reread him. I don't know if it's because I'm reading in spurts but he feels off. Once I reread I'll give you a better answer sorry

I don't know how to read cory besides checking if he's still invested and actually lunching scum so that's really what youre gonna get from me. I don't know him well enough to distinguish his alignment on tiny actions, I'll leave that to you and others

Cory is the mafia equivalent of barrack obama

Guessing that's not a compliment? lol

Why wouldn't it be? The guy is charismatic, likeable, progressive, and has a keen mind. The only question is whether you agree with his motivations and policies, and those are pretty heavily debated but clamored by supporters of him in general.

Good morning! I'm about to do a reread and puy together a reads list. For now I just wanted to mention that I really like this analysis:

Wolf cory doesn't die n1 and doesn't lynch his teammates. Town cory feels townie and may not lunch wolves d1, probably dies n1, and if he doesn't, he goes on to lynch a wolf d2. I thought my comments were fairly self explanatory. Cory doesn't really matter, we're never going to lynch him d1 even if there was a hint he was a wolf so we as might as well not waste time discussing his behavior when he's so self solving.

Gotta ask, what did you love about this exactly? It's not an analysis. It's purely meta based and it sounds like she's not going to address or asses anything that Cory does because she feels it'll just resolve itself. What she's saying is not incorrect in itself irt his town game...though I haven't seen him enough as scum to know if he'll bus or not (I just know when he was teamed with tiinker he didn't)..... but I still feel like it's a bit of a cop out thing to say and somewhat weird considering her commentary when she first entered the game.

What I liked is that it's a plan. Not necessarily one that allows immediate action, but a plan nonetheless. I don't know cory really at all, so having a little meta helps me

That's pretty accurate. I happen to disagree with President Obama's policies but I won't deny that he's charismatic and comes off as a good person. Not to mention he gives some impressive speeches.

Cory making a big deal about not being a wolf

LOL do you always say something serious like that in your first post of the game?

Marsh what kind of alignment would you draw from someone being serious in their first post?

I wouldn't any more. Learned my lesson from Demons cove. It's just taking me a while to get used to the new norm for how quickly we move past the joke phase

I will do a reread tomorrow and put up my thoughts but for the moment I've got a gut read town on BFG and I feel comfortable with Alan a because she seems similar to DC. But she was an IC in that game so I don't think that's a good basis to go on. Cory is pinging me slightly for insisting too hard he's town, but someone said that's normal for him

Darthe's faux pop-psychology is the dominant trait of his game; as he a wolf he's a droning psychiatrist; as a villager he's the patient in the chair

LOL this! He was definitely the patient in our last game...

OK, just finished my reread! This isn't a proper reads list since I didn't rank people by how towny I think they are. It's a little early for that, so I just stated my thoughts stream-of-consciousness style. And yes this is copy/pasted cause I typed it in the Notes app, that's why it's a different font/size. I can't figure out how to paste in the formatting of the target area.

1. Katiora: Entered the game late but her first analysis post on page 13 said she only had an opinion on BFG and Nyn. Seemed odd to me because by the time I got to it in the reread I’d already seen enough to form at least preliminary opinions on Alanna, Darthe, and Cory. So was Kat trying to draw attention away from one of them? Darthe and Cory I could understand her not having anything for because the posts I used as a basis for my analysis at this point could just as easily be interpreted as just goofing around. And when asked why she didn’t talk about those two on the following page she had a good answer. But there was definitely enough data ATP for Kat to have formed an opinion on Alanna, yet she didn’t mention her at all. I won’t try to draw an alignment from it yet but I’d say they might be linked some how.

2. Darthe: Starts the game with a string of posts that are somewhere in the middle of interesting and incomprehensible, including a strange bit about Cory’s AA joke being pre-typed. Why does that even matter? If I’m going to post something really long (like this reads list which I’m currently typing in Notes) I’ll probably type it outside of DM and copy/paste it in later to avoid losing the whole thing to a webpage glitch, which has happened to me multiple times before. But incomprehensible is part of what I see as Darthe’s town meta and reminds me of our last game where he was town.

3. Lizabeth: I don’t know her at all, so I’m not willing to form a quick opinion. But so far most of her posts have been questions designed to get people to state opinions and analysis, which I like. One caveat on that is that it’s sometimes really easy to do that but never get around to stating your own opinion, which can be a clever way to slide under the radar.

4. Csarmi: Who?

5. Prallia (Pralaya/Hallia): Pral hasn’t posted once, and Hallia just three or four times. I can’t draw a conclusion without more info.

6. BFG: Made an excellent observation about Alanna calling out Cory’s OP but then saying it doesn’t mean anything, which got her to explain how she’d changed her mind. On point.

7. Sooh: Wasn’t able to be in-thread much for a bit, similar to me, but was very engaged while here. Seems towny.

8. Alanna: Enters the game throwing suspicion at Cory, which seemed pingy to me at the time but I realize she was trying to get the game moving by giving us something to talk about. What I found a bit strange was that she didn’t respond with that explanation when I asked her about it, but rather turned attention to me by asking what alignment I thought she was. Could be another attempt to get some solid content out there or could be trying to stay out of the limelight.

9. Nynaeve: Took a while to post a strong analysis but when she did it was solid.

10. Ironeyes: Towning it up!

11. Cory Caboose: Constantly insisting he’s town at first, which seemed odd to me. Then when Alanna mentioned it he just started posting “and?” after everything she wrote, which is just needling the way I see it. Later on he told BFG she’d eventually figure out he’s town so she might as well not investigate him. I dunno if there’s a history here I’m unaware of but just ignoring anyone based on their word alone is kind of opposite of how this game is supposed to work IMO.

Ironeyes, would you mind explaining your read on Alanna (and ideally how it's changed through the game)?

Well I'm kind of in two minds about her. One one hand I see her working at solving and getting opinions out of people, but some of her questions appeared to me to be intended to direct attention away from herself and onto other people. Overall I see more town than scum in her ATP.

I suck at reading alanna... Really I suck at reading a lot of people lolololol but I really suck at reading Alanna... If you look at other games I always have a problem and usually think she's scummy. Honestly she usually thinks i'm scummy too. *shrugs* we play very differently.

Also I almost never make any kind of reads this early in the game. I find them pointless and misleading. Town hasn't had time to establish and Mafia has the easiest time faking it D1. I'm a D1 hater lol. I will make comments about people's normal game play, if I know how they play(or feel I do) but unless they do something obviously not town I'm not gonna give a whole lot of reads. And I didn't think I came into D1 late at all.. I was posting about an hour after the thread opened.... O.o *shrugs*

OK I can understand that, especially since I also seem to see her as scummy even when she's *ahem* an IC... Thanks for answering my question.

I think we should lynch csarmi

That's kinda tempting but I don't think we would gain anything from it. All that does is get kill a player who doesn't clear/incriminate anyone when he dies.

Ok thanks, then can you clarify how you think Kat and Alanna are linked?

It's a slight link but I thought Kat was intentionally ignoring Alanna in order to avoid drawing attention to her. That combined with what I saw as Alanna trying to direct attention away from herself added up to a general protection of Alanna, which could hint at her being a powerful mafia role that they don't want to lose early on.

Of course since then Kat has now explained that she just isn't good at reading Alanna which softens my suspicion somewhat.

I cannot get my mind around his progression/thought process here

In the same reads list he has Alanna as townish and is linking her with Kat (implying they're both scummish)

he mentions her in his reads on Kat, myself and Cory and has probably defended her the most in this game and just generally seems oddly focused on her

Regarding his read on Kat, he points out that she has only offered a few reads yet ignored the fact that most people at that point hadn't offered any read other than I was town

I'm pretty curious too, to see why I feel off. Could be that it's a holiday weekend here and time is a little scarce. I'm going to a Halloween party in a few hours and another one tomorrow night. But right now I have work and I can mafia whenever there aren't any students needing replacement glassware.

Huh. When you put it that way it sounds weird to me too.

I probably wasn't paying enough attention while rereading.

Marsh, where do you see me trying to direct things away from myself? I just find it odd that you keep bringing it up but I'm not sure I've seen you try to give examples

I'll go look for some quotes right now. It would have been a smart idea to do the quotes while typing my analysis, but I wasn't in the mood for a full scale WoT at the time.

Posted

Quick thing I'll add IRT any objections to what I've posted so far: I'm kinda sorta grasping at straws in many cases just to get things moving, because I don't have any really solid reads. For now I'm just bringing up whatever points stick out as I read. Go ahead and prove me wrong and I'll be grateful for it.

@Alanna OK it was mostly just this post--it felt like a redirect. I kind of exaggerated it in my mind and that influenced my posts.

Marsh what kind of alignment would you draw from someone being serious in their first post?

How is that directing things away from her though? She was asking you about herself, no?

the question came from me believing you were trying to set me up as mafia because I was serious instead of jokey. I asked that particular question because I wanted to understand what you were thinking, whether it was scum influenced or not. You didn't push the issue of me being serious though, instead you redirected to me deflecting as a talking point. I could give you a slight town lean for 1. Changing directions instead of doubling down and 2 reevaluating just now.
