my 2 pence...

First thing to do is just ask yourself if you really need to make this post. Self policing is the best policy. Especially avoid the urge to derail the thread. And especially within the last 24 hours of a day phase. Example of this is D1 (I believe) of BFG's last game. I had just got back to read and respond and decide on final vote. there was something that had derailed the thread for a page or two because people itt were bored (I think). It uses up an extra 5-10 minutes to get current and be available to do anything. I know this can be a tactic but I don't think it was in this case.

RE Quote trimming: I play a lot on mobile and even when I have computer out it takes a bunch of time to trim out non pertinent info from big quotes. I know that I have been stuck making big quotes myself because I only have certain times to post and a large quote dealing with one person is easier to make. Something that I try to do tho is to keep all the content about one person or at least one topic. The "shotgun" of a big MQ with only one thing to respond to in the middle wastes a lot of time.

I will try to do the spoilering of unneeded sections. That is a good idea.

RE increased ppp: I don't really have too much problem with this as long as people will remember to spoiler their videos and gifs because a page of 30+ video things will make the page unloadable to many mobile users. Nothing is more annoying than having to wait for the page to load and/or have it fail which means you can't read that page and any info on it may be lost.

Not a fan of separate games for high/low posters. Again I feel this is an easily self policed thing.

as far as volume  i think it comes down to self control  zander had 1500 posts one game and it was like what???  double the next person? more?  thats NUTS!

But then he played a game where he tried to hold back and was much much more manageable volume wise   so it can be done.

then theres the fact that you can look at the player list and KNOW if its gonna be huge volume even if its a medium sized game   get a list with zander cory and sili in it?  its gonna be big...you sign up knowing that you gotta deal with that   you might whinge but u gotta deal     tho if a number of people are telling you to slow down  doing it would be a good idea and nice to boot

also volume gets u lynched here like darthe says.

also also  someone with huge volume can be USED. I was NEVER killing IC ZaNDER cause he could bury my slips for eg

basically if u look at the list  see multiple big posters in it make a decision and stick to it as much as you can    its not like tina or i for eg are gonna suddenly have 1500 post games   you know EXACTLY who is going to be like that

but it WOULD be nice if those posts werent just nothing posts  100  posts that only say lolololol for eg isnt needed  so big posters need to think too

Haven't read much of this yet, but irt to BFG on quote trimming--I play on a desktop way more than on my cellphone, but I do tend to run the 5 minute backspace where one slip and you have to start over gig on multiquotes once or twice a game and it kills me. I'm sure it's utterly unsustainable if that's your main medium to play from.

Someone (I think Clov) suggested spoiler tagging what's not relevant. Good idea. A second option is something I only ever see Laine doing and it accomplishes the same--copy and paste the post URL and respond as @ link.

I hate when people discuss a post without any reference. It just leads to four other people asking what you're referring to, as often as not. Dropping a post number without a quote or link is better, but still makes it harder to verify statements.

Just saying I think Laine's method for shrinking things down is equally effective and let's her convey a lot of thoughts with very little bloat.

Yeah the big issue in terms of "quote" trimming is less the size of the quoted posts (though that's annoying too) but more because usually someone is quoting 5,000 words said by 8 different players and addressing a single thing in there looking for a response / making an observation.

So we have go back and go through the entire quoted post to see what they are even addressing if we want context.

Context gets buried in a fast game, so the quotes can have value. That said, why would you read the whole thing? Read the latest one or two imo, you know youll reread the thread later.

@Cory I avoid that by addressing each issue in a separate post with a trimmed quote, but consequence of that is doubling my post count over the course of the game.

But then I think more total posts is less an issue than the time it takes to get through them.

When I'm on my desktop I might pull up a quote chain from Frozen as an example of the worst possible way to handle the situation.

I'm still having nightmares about it.

I mean, you guys actually read the posts?  I just look into their eyes, cause the truth cant hide from me.

I love "red above bothers me" and you open the spoiler and it's a ten post chain where five people have highlighted something, and the current poster's issue is somewhere in the middle.

1368 WORDS PER MINUTE

Looking forward to taking this. If I don't get the lowest score on DM I'll be a little surprised.

195 words per minute.... and I have a terrible memory.  >.>

But yeah, I've always been a slow reader. That's why I stick to ISOing people of interest, vs doing game rereads. That's never gonna happen.
