I have a lot of thoughts about this subject and I was going to write a big post.

But I caught a cold and don't want to do that anymore.

My thoughts condensed are that volume in games has been a bigger issue than many realize but I also don't think it's fair to single people out.

My solution is that I am going to end night chat in games I run.

I also might not join games in the future that allow night chat due to concerns about volume and keeping up.

That's about it.

You caught a cold in the span of writing a post?

Damn, you have the worst immune system I've ever heard of!

Actually yes. I started last night and woke up with the cold.

WORDS PER MINUTE

was my result. I read Huckleberry Finn as well. Tried Sherlock Holmes, but the words stuck together ruined that for me.

At any rate I think posts/game day limits are fine. No real complaint from me, nor can I think of a better system without overhauling the forum mechanics.

Perhaps create a subforum for every game of all the posts that are near or in excess of the limit though. Add a counter to the 'trash' forum of 30 minutes or an hour between posts. It discourages posting over the limit but doesn't stop you from doing so.

Can I get some feedback on this idea?

I don't understand a word of that

PS how are you Sili bro

How about two threads for every game. One is the main thread we're all used to but with a post/day limit. The other, new thread maintains a severe time limit between posts to stop spamming. We encourage players to gather their thoughts in the second thread to avoid reaching the post/day limit in the main thread. This might, if everyone is so incentivized, create a reservoir of high quality posts that less volume-intensive players can read to quickly catch up.

You know what drives up volume to unsustainable levels?

When two people who have a bone to pick with eachother go @ it for ten pages and provoke another thirty pages of people telling them to stop.

Like Lenlo and Zander in the GND game. Fight dumped like 120 pages into the thread.

I'm not reading this whole discussion before adding my 2 cents.

I agree with the concept that each player should focus on limiting their own post count, and not add an arbitrary post number limitation. Those of us that have high post count would be more affected by it than those that already have a low PC if the number was set low enough to include them.

But everyone actively thing to reign in their posting should have an impact on the size of the thread.

And I agree 100% on trimming the MQs. If you need the context, spoiler it. This is an easy task on mobile too.

Using @Player is also an effective way to keep it down.

Another topic that I don't know of it was discussed or not is preventing talk during nights. This can also give time for breathing room to recap what happened in the day.

In my mind the issue is some players feel they must read and respond to every post, and suffer time constraints when other players spam; they are compelled to understand what is going on in the thread before engaging in the game, that if they don't catch up then they are missing out and cannot properly contribute.

First, and perhaps this is just me, but not everyone needs to read the entire or even a majority of the thread. Furthermore, if we had a way to focus attention on key posts that build up the thread - posts that become talking points later on or posts that are just very well thought out and explain some concept or player meta - then those who feel compelled to understand the flow of the thread can read these highlighted posts and be reasonably assured they know what's going on afterward.

This method makes a thread more accessible, and I think it would largely solve the problem without much effort if it was not misused. It's just a matter of finding and fine tuning a system that satisfies everyone's needs.

I have noticed that there are times when someone asks what's going on, and the question is responded to a "go read and see". While it's important to get your own opinion of what's going on, you don't need to read the whole thread to get one, especially if you are already behind.

And people shouldn't be required to read the whole thread anyway. This is a team game, and you should support your team. Sure, you don't know if the person is on your team or not, but helping someone get caught up by covering what has happened helps with the flow of the game.

And on top of that, everyone's outlook on what was important about what happened is different, and stating your take on events can help solve the game too.

I glaze past posts that seem unimportant and just try to find posts that mean something, which I guess also heightens the rate at which I can read the thread

Sometimes you miss something, but you can always clarify something specific later. Hell it gives room for other players to impress you with something you missed :P
