play to your alignment and don't ruin the spirit of the game

This works too

AFAICT people have been playing pretty fine in this sense for awhile at DM so this conversation seems pretty random

"play to your alignment and don't ruin the spirit of the game"

i think even this is a bit too broad or vauge.   what about a nilla that fake claims as doc??  many would say this is a poor move as it pressures the real doc into CCing and isn't playing to their alignment ...  yet i've seen instances were a fake doc claim by a nilla actually helped entrap scum and outted them on the game thread.

Some people might perceive me saying.... omg you're terrible at this game.... or X is being thick about this and that.... as offensive. Only it's not. It's part of the game. There's nothing personal about it... and if I think someone isn't playing to their potential, I'm allowed to say it.... because I'm trying to make a point and be as clear as I can.

Could I be nicer about it? Probably. Am I going to? No.

i mean we play games here with seer cover now ffs

we aren't hunkajunka amateurs

even the new players coming in are pretty smart and have figured out the intricacies of what is "playing against your alignment" and there hasn't been a case of it here for some time

let's not start making unnecessary enforcements, the Mafia forum is doing just fine

you can claim whatever you want if you think it's in your best interest

just expected to be lol'd @ post-game if it backfires

^this

If you're going to fake claim a PR and out the real one because you're not being town read for whatever reason and can't pull it off, then you shouldn't be doing that in the first place LOL

Seer cover... yeah that too.

These are guidelines anyhow. Not rules. It's fine if they're somewhat vague. It's just to give new players an idea of how things roll here. It should suffice, IMO.

As a Player...
1) When you consider joining a game make sure you have the time to play. If work or school is hectic or you have a vacation coming up it might be better to wait and join a different game when your schedule clears up. Mafia is a very time intensive game if done right.

2) Play to your win condition. It is your job to help your team win, if you're giving up you're not helping win.

3) Don't try to exploit oversights, mistakes, or loopholes in your moderators rules.

4) Do not make out of game promises, wagers, or deals. (Ex: "If I'm lying about my role I will wear a stupid forum signiture for a week!")

5) Do not create a truthful meta.

6) Do not join a game and sub out to play in another game.

7) Don't bring real life into the game.

8) Don't talk about the game outside the game until it's over.

9) Anything is fair game. Sometimes. Many people hold the view that anything is fair game in mafia and if you can make another player angry or upset to get the reaction you want you are allowed to use any means necessary to do so. Many other people disagree with that. Be sure to understand the temperament of the community you are playing in and how your game moderator expects you to conduct yourself before engaging in these sorts of tactics.

10) Do not incite other players to break or exploit the rules.

I agree with 1, 6, and 9.  I agree with 8 as the rules dictate.  As a general rule, I agree with #2 but I also have no problem with a player conceding when they cannot win the game.

There are other examples of 2. Such as outing your team because you're mad at them. I've seen that a couple times.

How can I better word it?

If you think that lying is morally wrong, mafia is prolly not the game for you.

or

mafia involves a certain level of deceat. you have to confirm to that when playing.

I dunno lol
