I was also interested that oberyn (sp) threw out the remark that the origional war was caused by reaghar (sp) running off with another woman. Seems to have been overlooked by non book readers.

It probably wasn't in the books.

I read/heard comments, that GRR, is adding new material to the tv series to 'keep everyone guessing'

I don't quite understand what you're saying. Rhaegar ran off with Lyanna.

What's not to understand?

G.R.R Martin is adding new content to the tv series.

Content that is not in the books.

Ergo, if an event/content doesn't happen in the books, but in the tv series.. its new content created by Martin. Even if its just expanding on a known 'fact'.

^ this.  we've known since book one that Rhaegar rook Lyanna.    but the way that the Red Viper tells it, is more like she went willingly.   its not exactly new material SD, more like pandering to the Jon Snow is Lyanna & Rhaegar's son theories.

1. Its a fact new content is being added to the series, as per Martin.

2. If Rhaegar claimed she went willingly, that is 'new' content, even if its 'mild'

You may be due to reread the books, Sinister. It's strongly implied she went willingly. And it's certainly believed by Ser Barristan, Dany, Viserys, and I'm certain others mention it. Even if you remain skeptical, a number of characters do explicitly state or think it happened that way.

Doesn't matter.

Be on the look out for new content.

That was the entire point.

Think this season we will see a lot of stuff shifted about (some brought forward some shoved back) some new content (gotta keep theon going and the hound) and some ditched.

Hope they can manage it in a way that is better than the books. Hindsight is the greatest weapon ever invented afterall.

Well the tv show will be done before the books, that's confirmed by both the producers and Martin himself. There will be spoilers. There will be new information. We might get information now that isn't gonna be in the books for another two books or so. But does that ruin the experience of the books when they come? Not for me at least. The TV show is amazing, but it's a completly different experience reading Martin's words. So I personally don't mind at all.

Well, it's not like Viserys and especially Dany would ever believe that their brother could have been the one did wrong instead of the Usurper. That said I do believe it was left rather ambiguous as to whether or not she went of her own accord.

yeah i heard HBO renewed the series for 2 more seasons ^_^   see we all knew that the tv show would out pace the books (or atleast expected it to) but i figured it would go the way of Dexter or Walkign Dead, where it takes off on its own and the books are totally different.  for me though, if the show stays the same as the boks, it will ruin the books for me, as it takes the suspense and unsureness of the plots away  (kinda liek with tonights episode, no where near as enjoyabel to watch Joff choke to death as it was to read it, because reading it, you didn't know it would happen it just happened)

anyone else chant "choke you little bastard" the entire episode??

good death scene.  the feast went faster than i expected, i looked for Sansa's hair net but the tweak to that scene was great.  i even rewinded the show (DVR) to make sure i saw what i thought i saw.  anyone else catch where the old lady stole the posion rock off of sansa's necklace.   (i can't recall if the old bird gave sansa that necklace, or maybe margery.  but they woudl have had too.  HBO might have left it off screen).  i wonder why they changed what happened at the feast though, where the dwarf playing as Joff (who ends up being Penny's brother right??) falls over and Joff orders him killed only to have Tyrion interveine.  and why they left out the side convo about Tyrion that the old lady has (where she makes the comment that out of all of Tywins chldren the one most like him is the one he most hates).

i loved the added bits between Cersi/Bernie and Jamie/Lancle.  i especially loved the Jamie/Lancle exchange.  and Tyrions insulting speech to Joff was priceless *grins* spot on to his character.  the actor that played Joff did wonderful, i hated him every minute of the show so superb acting shout out to that little guy ^_^

i did notice they changed the actor that played Bolton though   atleast he doesn't look the same.  not sure how i feel about the change in theon's story line, him going outside of the walls.  but i guess it will make for an easier time having his sister rescue him.   i wonder if they'll bring in Jeyne Poole to pretend to be Arya and marry her off to the bastard before or after?  at first i thought it was the sadistic girl "playing" hunt with Ramsey, but Jeyne isn't like that iirc.

It was the fool who gave her a necklace in the last episode.

I think that's later on when Jaime is in the riverlands and he's talking to his aunt.

Pretty sure it's the same guy.

I don't like what they're doing with Shae though. They're making it look like she felt betrayed by Tyrion to justify her turning on him during the trial. When really she sold him out when he had been loyal to her. And it's very important to Tyrion's character I think.

My heart broke for Tyrion, it really did.

And when the episode was almost done and it was the last close-up of Joffrey's face I turned to my husband and said "And THAT'S why it's called the Purple wedding"

Whole episode was brilliant!

And man, the guy playing Bran, he's gonna be a real looker when he's done with puberty.

Roose is the same actor.

I'm pretty sure Dontos gave Sansa the hairnet in the books, too. Littlefinger was in on the plot.

Yep. Littlefinger and Oleanna plotted it together and made Dontos help. Littlefinger wanted Sansa, the Tyrells wanted Joffrey gone. Win-win.

^ i recall this, though i though the only help Dontos gave was getting Sansa out of the wedding while the chaos was happening (though in the series it was during the night and not at thae wedding).  i thought i recalled Oleanna (is that the old birds name?) giving Sansa the hair net.  iirc Sansa remarks on it, who gave her the hair net, when she removes it that night and notices the stone is missing.

@ Agitel.  yah i ment to say Loras, but was thinking of Lancel because HBO is fr some reason scrapping that entire plot line with Cersi screwing her cousin while Jamie was away.  whci si important to Jamie becoming disinfranchised with Cersi before he lieaves to lay siege on riverrun.

btw, that reminds me ....  i dont recalle Jamie ever practicing the sword with Bronn :usnure:

re-shay.  idk.  i kinda got the feelign that Shay betrayed Tyrion for two reasons.  1, to climb up the ladder and secure her lot to a man with more power and 2 because she was spiteful to Tyrion for shoving her away and out of sight once he got into Kings Landing (first shutting her up in a whore house then refusing her advances and ignoring her out right once his father came to Kings Landing).   imo, HBO is playing up the spiteful aspect of the betrayal more, but their still potraying it a lot like i recall.

Dontos gave her the hairnet in the godswood, Olenna came up to her and fiddled with it before Joffrey died. Same deal as the show and the necklace.

Re: Lancel - they did show her sleeping with Lancel while Jaime was gone, he's just been indisposed since the battle of the Blackwater. The bit with Qyburn helping Cersei get rid of some unspecified symptoms may have been intended to hint that she may have been pregnant - Jaime witnessing that conversation will certainly be used when Tyrion tells him as he escapes that Cersei has been screwing Lancel (and Kettleblack and Moon Boy for all he knows per the books).

Jaime practiced the sword with Ser Ilyn Payne in the books, since he had no tongue to be able to tell anyone else about it. Since the guy who played Payne is not available I'm sure they took the opportunity to set up a little different dynamic on the show.

They showed that they were screwing in either the 1st or 2nd season, can't remember which. Probably the 2nd.

He didn't. He practiced with Ser Ilyn Payne because he has no tongue and therefore can't tell anyone about Jaime being terrible with his left hand. Don't really see why they decided to change that since they've already introduced Payne.

Meh, I think she was always interested in the money and the jewels personally. If she was spiteful it's more because she was losing those things rather than because she actually cared for Tyrion.

Wilko Johnson (the guy who played Payne) was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in late 2012 and given about 10 months to live. He decided to refuse chemotherapy and went on a farewell tour (since his primary career was as a musician). He's still alive against all odds but I don't think we'll be seeing him back on GoT... and I'm pretty sure they thought it would be crass to recast him under the circumstances.
