For the most part I think everybody ended up with the right person thoughI think Mat and Beaded Hair Girl Who Make Stuff Go Boom should have been explored more...but this topic is meant more in the lighter vein than a serious dissection of how good for each other the characters are... I would have loved to have seen Rand and Nyneave have a romance...but of course I love Nynaeve and Lan. I think Mat hooking up with Avi had potential...I bet they could have had some GREAT games of Maiden's Kiss ;-)

 

The same yearning I have for a Rand/Nyneave pairing wonders at how a Rand - Moiraine relationship could have worked (pretending the Finn's warning did not exist). I think Rand having to deal with Faile would have been Funny. Or Mat. ... Perrin was uniquely patient enough for the Falcon I think. But my most secret wish would be a...Berelain/MORGASE hook up!! ;)

 

Any mix-matches YOU think would have been interesting...heartfelt...or just Funny?

Mat/Elayne, Perrin/Tuon and Rand/Egwene (we've seen this, but I don't mean them as country bumpkins, but as Dragon Reborn and Amyrlin Seat).

fionwe - I have thought a lot about Mat/Elayne but they just come off soooo perfectly ''Brother-Sister'' to me that I just can't imagine it.

 

Similarly, there is a lot of hankering over the years for a Mat-Birgitte, but they are such a perfect Platonic Friendship (maybe the single best example of a male'female FRIENDship in the entire series) that I hate to screw that up.

Well, Melaine and Rand was hinted at, that would have been hawt. Or how about Min/Perrin, Mat/pretty much all the hot chicks, or Riselle and someone? I think a Riselle/Thom pairing would have been CLASSIC

This doesn't quite split up a romantic pairing, but I always thought Elayne and Talmanes could've been interesting.

 

As for the existing pairings, after her husband's death I wish Setalle and Thom would end up together. I wouldn't split up any of the others, not even Perrin and Faile - can you imagine how much of a heeled puppy Berelain would have made him?

 

PS - Lanfear and Rand would have been awesome! Except for the whole let the world fall under the shadow thing, but it still might have been worth it

Hmm...good question. 

 

Mat and Nobody.  Mat should be a bachelor.

 

Perrin and Faile is fine.  Perrin needs somebody who can bring out a fullness to his personality rather than just a gentle country girl who he will always be a lumbering oaf around. 

 

Rand and Lanfear.  Lanfear is the only female who could stand at his side, nobody else can.  IMO, that is why RJ needed three different women at his side because after he decided no on Lanfear there was no single female character who could fulfill such a role.

 

Egwene and Asmodean (if he were still alive and finished his transition back to the light).  That would be epic. 

 

Nynaeve and Lan is fine.  She is such a whirlwind that she needs a true boulder to anchor her. 

 

I guess that covers the "original 5" from the Two Rivers.

Rand and Lanfear getting together really could have taken the books to a different place.  Would've lost its happy G-rating likely because it would've taken a twist towards some real life issues with morality.  Not sure if that would've been a good or bad thing.

What I liked about WoT is the real lack of romance and love triangles. Kept the meat of the books to the non love stuff, or maybe I should say that Romance is not a big factor in the books...well at least I dont think so when I compare to others.

 

I mean specifically we dont have many scenes of rape or infidelity or just overall bedroom scenes. I mean - a lot of the Wizard's first rule books was avoiding rape by the soldiers of the new world order.

 

Back on topic - I would love to see a plotline with Mat sleeping with Elayne - then both feel guilty and Rand finds out. Rand ready to rip Mat's heart out with the power, but his medallion stops the weave. Mat saying - why are you so greedy, you got avi and min, why cant i have this one, and mothers milk in a cup, it was only a one time thing, we arent doing it again..."

Well, Mike, anything really, A one night stand you think would have just been sizzlin' HAWT or a longterm relationship between two characters or...anything...

 

I could sooooo get behing Morgase and Berelain having a one nighter...But I think it'd be hilarious to see a guy less patient than perrin have to deal with faile...and think how dynamic Lanfear/Rand could be...or Graendal and Halima ;-)

 

I have seen some support shipping Tam/Cadsuane but after the end of TGS I don't think I could deal with that.

Prior to TGS, I still had some hope Nynaeve would give in to her anti-AS resentment and stick it to the White Tower.  She and Logain would have made an excellent team and perhaps more than that.  Sadly not to be.
