meh, I'm English, we don't really distinguish between walking and hiking (and my sister kept calling me pretentious when I came back from the US and talked about going hiking, so I stopped doing using the word).

My longest walk was across Switzerland - just under 3 weeks and lots of mountain passes, was amazing, but stayed mostly in mountain huts instead of proper camping. Next year I'm hoping to do the GR20 which is a 2 week walk across Corsica and supposed to be one of the best walks in the world. The most remote walk I've ever done by myself was probably a 4 day section of the Bibbulman track in Oz (I think the whole thing is something like 600miles and barely scratches West Australias area.

(Maybe I can start a thread on 'walks of the world' in the reviews bit, I'm always looking for suggestions)

I'm American so I'll use the word trekking here

I did a week long trek across death valley with a friend a few years back.  One of the most amazing experiences ever.  Our packs started out at 100+ lbs because we had to carry in enough water for a full week.  We only made about 8 miles on day 1, compared to day 7 where we only had a gallon or so left and did 20+ miles.

Being out in the middle of the desert makes you a little crazy though.  Even if you have a friend there, rather than keeping the madness at bay I think it almost gives it more of a place to incubate.  I swear we were seeing things half-way through our trek.  But, walking out of there after a week and looking back at our time there, wow, what an experience.

I'm an American, but if I could pull it off financially (i.e., able to afford stateside visits so I could visit family and still eat at Wendy's), I would love to relocate to Korea someday and work either on a military base or at an English-speaking school.

Dog is one of my favorite foods. Thank you, Korea.

I majored in History, but bored of stuffy academia, I shifted my focus to institutional history of Oregon State University so I could use the Archives instead of boring textbooks for my senior thesis-- a history of student life, (school spirit and traditions), as framed by the culture shifts and problems of WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and after.

I really want to get published, but rather than Sci Fi or Fantasy (I love writing these), my first published book will be about OSU... as long as I can find a publisher! (I hope, the OSU Press.) It will not be a best-seller, but it is a passion. The book focuses on the untold histories of OSU athletics and student life, particularly the murky origins of baseball and track, mascot history, and student life. The student life will come mostly from my senior thesis, and a small portion of the mascot history was featured in a football game program this year.

Edit: I almost forgot! I play the Horn! I played professionally with the military, but "retired" from the stressful aspects when I came back for my undergrad, refusing to even minor in music because I did not want juries, auditions, lessons, or music theory, much to the lament of the horn instructor. I kept up my playing with a horn ensemble and marching/basketball band, as well as community theater.

I copied most of this outta a similar thread I posted in, so sorry if I've posted some of it before :P

~ when I draw characters, I take on their facial expressions without realizing it. So I'll be sitting there and my brothers' like; uhhh...why are you grinning like a loony?

~ Before my iTouch died a few months ago, a lot of my DM spam/browsing time was done from horseback :P

~ I am a parrot - I tend to adopt others' accents/dialects when talking with them. Again, this is unconsciously done so when I realize I get all embarassed because I think they might think I'm making fun of them! XD

~ I cans cat purr in the back of mah throat (mouth closed)

~ I eat really really fast. Also, I run up stairs. Which got major complaints from my granma, apparently my dad was/is just as hectic  Actually I do everything fast and without thinking *sigh* I hardly walk places, I tend to skip or run... which usually ends in me covered in new bruises each evening, and a lot of carnage in my wake :P

~ ^^this is likely why some of my friends call me Tonks irl.

~ I have a fear of something grabbing/gnawing at my ankles if they hang off a couch/bed/etc. So I tend to wrap my feet in the duvet when I go to sleep at night XD  It used to be much worse though. My bed stands on long stilts so it's like right under the ceiling, and so I took a run up, scrambling up the chair as fast as possible. :P

~ a little spider lives somewhere far under my bed/by the wall, she is devious and escapes the vaccuum cleaner all the time times. She doesnt do anything nashty or make big webs but still... we have a love/hate relationship (she catches pesky sandflies), and I has named her Moghedien.

~ Apparently my eyelashes are 'freakishly long', various peoples incl ones I don;t know have said that before. Still trying to decide if that's a compliment or not... But I think my brothers haverather long ones too so maybe I'm not a freak of nature after all... >.>

No spoilers for aMoL as such just needed to say it.

I'm apparantly a sucker for bad things :(

I keep going back to the memory of light spoiler board (having finished the book) even though I know it will just depress me.

On the other hand, I am apparantly better off than most of the posters their, overall I enjoyed it :)

Will remove if it's not appropriate

I want to be a college professor someday.....

Me too.

I've been to all the lower 48 states except Arkansas.

I'm running a marathon next week.

I've won the baking contest at my work 6 years running - with different dishes, and even when they changed the rules because "it would be nice to get more variety in the dishes"

I literally just woke up maybe 15 minutes ago. I live like a vampire, sleep all day and then all tonight I'll be at work.
