Btw, let's go ahead and make this a fun, active game guys. I've seen too many complaints about slow games lately; this one is just starting out so we can make sure to keep this one from going the same route

BOOM BABY! Agreed!

Is that the Cole Train?

Been a while since I played GoW but I was thinking about Emporer's New Groove and how Emporer Kuzco yells it. Does Cole say it too?

So, page 2 already. At least we have activity. Let's start off with some good old setup talk. I think this game is liable to have goblins, Smaug, Gollum, or possibly even Spiders or Wights as mafia/ third party. I also am assuming that we have an SK/Survivor/etc in this and that we shouldn't have anymore damn cult etc. Thoughts?

Gollum as an SK could be a possibility, I think. I don't see him as being mafia so much, tho I think I'm influenced by LOTR in that.

It's an advanced game but to me the only obvious roles are the town (dwarves/hobbits) and mafia (goblins/wargs/spiders). Gollum could be a cult leader since wearing the ring slowly poisons your mind and turns you. Smaug seems like an obvious 3rd party choice though someone with more experience than I might be able to weigh on on what role that could be.

Also, I'm thinking there will likely be some mithril armor (BPV) floating around for protection against night kills? Thoughts?

Setup talk like hinting is bad. It gives mafia something to distract the town from hunting them down.

Focus people. Or go ahead, I know you cant help it.

? Oh, this is my first advanced game so I didn't realize. I wouldn't mind more setup talk because it would help me to get an idea about what types of 3rd party is likely to be in this game, but I will go read some wiki's and some of the other advanced games like the Dwarves and Elves one.

Lol at the last comment =p Also, I would disagree that setup talk is bad. Hinting is, but the discussion of setup itself is a good starting point. Figuring out the game helps figure out the players as I should well know by now..

I dont think setup talk is good at the beginning of the game when we know nothing about roles or characters. After N1 I can see some setup talk, depending on who gets lynched or NKed, but not D1.

So now we're debating the merits of setup talk. At least we're posting.

TGlems, advanced games can get seriously crazy. My game that just ended is a good example of this

Interesting. Why would you suggest people continue with their setup talk if you think setup talk is so bad?

Why not discuss the set up? It's a start at least. Besides, arguing against it is just as distracting no?

Just say no to setup talk this early in the game people.

Even day 2 is prob too early for setup talk. Thing is, mafia always benefits more from setup talk than town since they have a slightly better idea what the setup might actually be.

For instance, say the mafia team had a Silver tongue. They could easily guess that a LD was in the game, so by suggesting such they could manipulate town in all sorts of ways. There are tons of other examples however.

Either way, early setup talk is bad for town. We have no idea what the setup could be, so talking about it would be just throwing out random guesses, while in the meantime mafia doesn't have to worry bout us scumhunting.

FOS anyone involved in the setup talk discussion

I would prefer not to spend our time and energy talking setup. Especially now as it is all pure speculation. Imo it allows the mafia to steer conversations and introduce thoughts that allow them to misdirect the town.

That said even arguing about it wastes time better spent searching for mafia. So I will take my own advice and stop now. Others will continue despite my objection. I can't do much about that.

While I agree with you on the setup talk thing, the second paragraph makes it seem like you're already resigned to let town do their own thing and not involve yourself in the discussion. I understand not wanting to waste energy arguing about something relatively trivial, but saying you won't give your input on the matter anymore seems to kind of be against the point of the game.

I mean, we're pretty much SUPPOSED to argue about trivial stuff, aren't we?

P.S. this conversation, the one you're all participating in right now that is an actual game discussion on page 3 of D1? That is why I started talking about setup right off the bat. Gets the game moving somewhere, even if it is more towards reactions of people from setup talk.

I stated my opinion and moved on.

What trivial thing would you like to argue about? Why a book of like 350 pages needs as much film time as one that was over 2000?

Does Gandalf have more than one set of robes?

How many dwarves can fit in a vw beetle?

Sorry, little tired. Going to sleep I think.

1. To let the films make more cash, of course.

2. I think he just never does his laundry.

3. Eight of them.

And I think setup talk can be bad early, even though I've been suckered into it myself at times.
