Near the end of the day, two suspects were presented to the Shifter Council. One was a new aviate, living with the others in the treehouses, on the edge of the forest. Another was a new wolf shifter, living in the wolves' den in the caves.

 

Several wolves had been under suspicion for the past few days. It seemed likely that someone among their number wasn't really a wolf, but a Hunter spy. Nevertheless, the new aviate's reluctance to disclose personal information about himself seemed suspicious, too.

 

In the end, more suspicion fell on one of the wolves, and, after interrogation, the Council had him executed. Many whispered that the swiftness of this decision itself seemed suspect. Their whispers were proved correct when the wolf shifter they killed reverted into its true animal form once he was killed.

 

It was beginning to seem hopeless. So many dead, and no Hunters found...

Oh dear. I wish that it was morning. Alanna, can we skip part of the night in this game?

The night is dark and silent over the Garrett. Many of the shifters fear the morning, knowing they have wrongly killed their own, knowing they have found no Hunter spies. It is beginning to look hopeless for the shifter world. It seemed inevitable that the morning could only bring more death...

 

But there were three people in the fortress who weren't afraid. They knew their time had come. Each was strategically placed in the strongest points of the shifter fortress. The first Hunter, hidden among the wolves, crept silently throughout the maze of caves until he came out in the open, through a small passage. Just up ahead, one of the wolves prowled across the entrance to the caves, standing watch. The Hunter darted forward and slammed his knife into the wolf's flank.

 

Ironeyes, Wolf Shifter, Vanilla Townie, has been nightkilled.

 

Once the Hunter in the caves sent word to his fellows that his target had been taken out, the others moved. One of them, the one who had been hidden among the aviates, snuck out of the trees and went, on foot, deeper into the forest, into the barracks, where the bears dwelled. His time with the hawks had helped him practice his agility and swiftness at navigating trees, so he climbed one, going up high, where he would have a good vantage point. Silently, he drew an arrow to his bow. With a single arrow, he slew the bear guard.

 

Sakaea, Bear Shifter, Vanilla Townie, is dead.

 

Lastly was the Hunter who had been hidden among the horse shifters in the stables. No one had ever even questioned him, for the horses were a friendly bunch, the mentors and messengers of the shifter world. The Hunter slipped out of the stables and crept up behind the Horse Shifter standing watch outside. With a single stab, he ended the shifter's life.

 

Key, Horse Shifter, Vanilla Townie, is dead.

The only reason it went as fast as it did, is because in the QT we were discussing that all we needed was just one vote from a Townie on anyone other than ourselves. We talked about how if we saw that one vote, we had to immediately jump in and hammer as a group. We waited and waited, and when we saw Kae vote Razen, I think the three of us voted within 15 minutes of each other. It was the only way to save Darthe and win us the game. Of course we didn't want to give Town the opportunity to discuss it.
