[BASIC] Shifters vs Hunters: Sign up as a Backup!

Shapeshifters: individuals descended from gods, with the ability to transform into animals. Once, their shifting abilities were limitless. Now, each shifter is limited to one form, and their numbers have dwindled - thanks to those who call themselves Hunters, humans with telepathic magic they gain from ingesting a certain leaf. The Hunters slay shifters in the human world, so most shifters have retreated to their own world - a parallel dimension, accessed by a rip in the fabric seprarting the two worlds.

 

Only shifters can access their world - or so they thought. Unbeknownst to them, Hunters have found a way to infiltrate their world. Since young shifters cannot control their abilities and can go months without shifting, the trespassing Hunters can easily pass themselves off as new shifters. Which gives them free reign to stake out the shifters' world, killing their prey one by one...

 

So yeah. Basic game. A few basic roles, mostly vanilla townies. As you can see, there is flavor, but it's of my own making (based on one of the series I'm writing). I'll fill you in on as much of the flavor as I feel you need to know. Basically, it comes down to this: Hunters are mafia, and Shifters are town.

 

I need 12 players. PLEASE do not sign up if you cannot be fully active. Think about your life for the next three weeks or so and seriously consider if anything will keep you too busy to be active. Only 1 post per game day is required, but 1 post per RL day is expected. I intend to be a fully active mod, so I only want fully active players. I'm very serious about this.

 

A full rule list will be posted in the game thread, but here are a few important ones:

• Day 1 will be 4 RL days long. After that, days are 3 RL days. Nights are 36 hours.
  
• This is a hammer game. Once the hammer falls, no more votes may be placed, and that's the day.
  
• Nothing will happen if no lynch is reached - i.e., no random modkills unless you go more than 2 day cycles without lynching anyone. Then, random modkills will occur in the event that no lynch is reached.
  
• There will be a coroner's report - the alignment and roles of dead players will be revealed upon their deaths.
  

Lastly, if you are completely new or very new to mafia, please let me know when you sign up. I've been out of the mafia scene here for several months, so some of you may be new to me, but not new to mafia, and I always like to know. All players are welcome, but it'd be great to get a good mix of newer players and experienced players - that makes the best basic games.

The Way Into the Shifters' World -

 

Annica turned to the staircase. It didn’t go up very far, only about six, deep steps. Shrugging uncomfortably, Annica took the first step, then the second. The air seemed alive around her. It was an unsettling feeling, yet she felt like she couldn’t stop. Compelled, she took another step up, and then another. Suddenly, her body went cold. She felt like her head had been submerged in water, dark and wet. She took another step up, and then—

 

Everything went black. Suddenly, she couldn’t see anything, not the stairs or the door waiting for her. Concerned, Annica looked down, but she couldn’t see the corridor below her. Still looking down, she took another step up—only there wasn’t another step. Swallowing a yelp, Annica reached out wildly, even as she began to fall. She didn't fall far before her fingers latched onto something—it felt like a rung, like a ladder. Her feet swung into something solid, a wall. She scrabbled there for a minute before stepping down onto another rung. For a moment, she stood there, perched on the rungs built into this wall she couldn’t quite see. Then—

 

"Well. Coming up, or not?"

 

Annica glanced up and realized that light shone above her. She squinted, but she couldn’t see anything besides the shadows cast above her. Then a dark shape appeared over the edge. “Hello?”

 

And then the space around her was flooded with light, a strange, orange, flickering light. Annica looked around and found she was, in fact, standing on a ladder rung, built into a wall that wrapped around and behind her. It was…a well. She was down in a well. A deep well, because when she glanced down, she could see nothing but darkness, disappearing down into the wide hole.

BTW I forgot to say I am pretty new to mafia. I just got NK'd in my first game ever. And I can't add that to my original post because I can't edit.

LOL! Yep, there is no editing in my games :) As to your questions, this game is based on one of the books I'm writing, so I wrote that. Actually haven't written this particular project in a while; I got kinda stuck with it. I'm working on something else right now, but I still plan to go back to my Shapeshifter series, especially because I've had new ideas for the plot and characters since then.

 

That said, any excerpts I post are basically just for fun and flavor - you don't really *need* this information for the game itself :)
