it was Slayer!! in book 9 he goes on about being the top assassin of the Shadow! he killed the Black Aes Sedai in book 4 and the gray man in book 3 (in the white tower). And one of the forsaken asked him to kill Rand and Min, althouugh he accidentally killed two other people instead. they are telling him to kill troublesome people like Fain so wouldn't Asmodean be somewhere at the top!?!?

The one problem with this is that Slayer likes think and brag to himself about his victims. He specifically mentions the gray man and the two Black Sisters (Joyia Burr and Amico, I think) in his reminisence of his favorite kills. If he had killed Asmo, a Forsaken, no less, wouldn't you think that would be at the top of his list?

Posted

not really. at the time Asmodean was not one of the Forsaken. so he was exiled from them (i don't think he could use the true power and he was INCREDIBLY weak in the power at the time) so why would he feel happy about it? to him wouldn't it be less than the gray man?and he only mentioned the gray man because he couldn't see the forsaken who sent him on the mission but he knew it wasn't a gray man. though i admit i have thought that he may think it a big thing.

Bashere as Demandred? i never thought of that. faile, tenobia and his wife may notice but they may not as well (compulsion could be used or something that wipes memory?) in book 9 when the forsaken are having a meeting someone does say to Oran'gar and Demandred that they were supposed to keep watch on Rand and Osan'gar is Dashiva the Asha'man. And Demandred is supposed to be a great general too (in his opinion better than Lews Therin Telamon and if he can accept LTT is stronger in the power he can accept that he is better in the art of war to if he was)Demandred must be close to Rand if he to watch him like Osan'gar and being one of his top generals makes watching easy!

Understand - I'm not theorizing that Bashere IS Demandred.

Jordan is reported to have said that we have not yet met Demandred's alter-ego. So, whomever he is pretending to be, is still offstage.

Posted

so then HE IS NOT Demandred? would have been very interesting if he was.oh yeah and if Asmodean chose a door at random then how would the killer know he would go there? maybe the killer killed him because they recognised each other and s/he thought Asmodean would tell rand (he probably would for his own safety) so maybe killing Asmodean was not the "assassin"'s top priority!

didn't moraine say in the letter to rand that she understood the importance of having Asmodean as teacher? and she would not think that the training was done so it WAS NOT her!

Not exactly. She said that she thought that PERHAPS it was the only way, but she could not approve.

She actually has one of the biggest standing motives to kill Asmodean. She knew what he was, and she had said very clearly in the past that she would rather kill Rand and the other Emonds Fielders rather than let the Shadow near them (have them). She has a history of killing Forsaken as well.

She executed a deep plot to kill Lanfear, and I would never doubt that she had an equally deep plot to handle Asmodean whenever the opportunity presented itself.

KOD spoiler:

As she has plotted rather deeply to organize her own rescue from the Eelfinn before even confronting Lanfear on the docks, it's not the least bit surprising that she would have something to do with killing Asmodean.

Ok, first off, if someone already said this, sorry, but I stopped reading after page 10 because I don't want to waste hours and hours reading through this forum. But for anyone who is in love with the traveling-behind-the-door idea, I have a simpler explanation than traveling. Say there was a mirror in the closet he opened, I'm not sure why there would be, but it's more likely than traveling behind a door quick just to surprise Asmodean. If there was a mirror, no one would have to travel into a small room in a small amount of time, and if it wasn't directly in front of him he'd be able to see someone behind him. I'm still unsure of who I think killed him, Graendal seems pretty likely, but that's only based off of what people have said in here, if it wasn't for the strong evidence/likely stories going along with Graendal, I would have never suspected her. I just had to put my mirror idea in here, personally, I'm gonna try not to get too worked up over this until Jordan lets us know who is responsible, because we can debate all we want, we can break our keyboard from typing too much, but in the end, until Jordan tells us, it doesn't matter who we decide is the killer, we can still be wrong.

Hmm tuff but, good poll. To me RJ likes to surprise his readers.. i agree it wasn{t Lanafear or Moriene. But, SH was not introduced by name yet. But, at the prologue of The Dragon Reborn there was the Fade that acted abnormal. with a sence of humor and he did quote 'I like to keep an eye on all who serves me.' says that this is either SH or a earlier version of him.... so it could have been this Fade or SH.... Something to think on

Shadar Haran has a really big point against him. One of the few things that is certain is that Asmodean recognized his killer. It is very unlikely for Asmodean to recognize Shadar Haran when none of the other Foresaken knew who he was.

He might have ran into him befor. He might have just thought him to be a regular fade. saying Oh, it's you. doesn't mean it was some named person he had to know.

i can say oh, it's you to some cat.

If Asmodean met Shadar Haran previously, he would not have taken him to be a regular Fade. He also likely would have been reigned in and placed under direct control at any such meeting. Besides, if he had taken him to be a regular Fade, then he wouldn't address him in such a direct manner. There is recognition in the statement, something he wouldn't have for an ordinary Fade.

One thing that is interesting, no matter who posts, me included, it is assumed that there was only 1 person in the room. There could have been more. The "You?" can refer to multiple people as it is its own plural.

You lucky. Some boards I've been on would have locked it after 10 pages or so. Basically because that is about the extent of what anyone is going to read anyway.

This is the one exception, if I closed this thread two new would pop up. Rather one huge thread than a whole bunch of smaller ones floating around. Mainly because that means fewer people will post about a topic that has been beaten to death without anything new being added for the last 2-3 years, if not more.

I consider this being like a family heirloom by now... being handed down form generation to generation... whether people like it or not, lol.

Though seriously, I'd be quite happy for a new thread, if it wasn't for the poll. I think it is a pretty good one as most of the people that voted in it are actually real regular readers and WoT analysts, rather than a poll where every passing person throws in any old guess.

Hmmm... hope it is safe... there is still something funny going on with a lot of threads... Still, I'd like to think that the worst case scenario would be for the thread to be locked, rather than deleted...
