Dude doesn't have the ability to use the net at work anymore and though he had it at home, he's concentrating on his family and other projects. I miss him too though since he was like a big brother to me.

As I look at the setup, it occurs to me that this game will be very different from the games I have run in the past.

 

There will not be any elaborate theme and there will be no storylines.

 

This will be down and dirty mafia - setup for you to employ your knowledge of game mechanics, test the nerve of your opponents, and give you a chance to show off your chutzpah in general.

 

There will be no random occurences.

 

No time limits will be set. No random lynches will happen. Everything will be a result of direct player action.

 

I will not tolerate needless spam.

 

Spam used to further one's agenda is one thing, and trust me, I know the difference. So if you are trying to bury a post will some elaborate smack, that's fine. Posts under 10 words made just for the sake of posting are not.

 

Daily participation will be required, and I'm talking about RL days.

 

Seriously, this game will be about playing and is for folks that like to play.  Keep in mind, it's fine if you miss a day, and I know that weekends are off time for a lot of folks- no problem. What I'm talking about is the type of player that finds it difficult to make that one post during a 72 deadline. This isn't the game for that type of playstyle.

 

*NEW RULE* No faking emergencies.

 

If you want to lurk, there are plenty of creative ways to do that without posting a fake excuse, and it confuses people when there is a real one. So, no posts about losing jobs, power outages, or worse unless they really happened. And if they do happen, please be supportive of the person going through it! They'll re-join the game if they can, but we won't pester them while they need to focus elsewhere.

 

ALL other techniques, methods, and playstyles are allowed.

 

I excpect that things will get a little emotional here and there - they always do in the good games - so be ready for it. Your mantra will be "it's just a game, it's just a game..." and you will know that no matter what, nothing is personal. It's just a game.

 

Over the years, I've seen dozens of briliant tactics invented and used. I've seen people make others believe that it was day when it was night, and argue that gravity could work in reverse. I'm drooling a little bit right now just thinking about what people have cooked up for this game *dabs drool off of chin*

No worries - beginners are welcome to play this game, you'll just have to really stay sharp. IMO, the best way to learn is by playing with people who are really good, and that's what this game is designed to be. :D

And I've got a good job that's as secure as possible ;D

 

And I apologise to all mods for the LOAs I had to take because of the change (sometimes more than one per game, I fear). But RL goes first (as always), and I never faked one (that I remember).

 

Rereading the rules, a further question: editing posts is allowed?

Folks, just so I'm clear - this new rule is in support of players that have emergencies. We've all had them, and last fall, having everybody's support and compassion was really important for me. I want to be able to extend the same and not have people accuse someone of being mafia when they don't answer a post because of a real emergency.

 

Editing posts will not be allowed - I havn't covered all of the rules yet, but that one is a standard in my book. Cringing over a slip and praying that others don't catch it is a major part of the game, plus, every time somebody accused you of somethign, you'd just go back and change it. This would make re-reading posts pointless and building cases impossible. Nice try though...

Wes, I will be gone for a four day weekend in the middle of February. If you all can do without me for those days, that's cool. Otherwise, that time isn't good for me. It's the 12th-15th. I'd really hate to miss this game. It will be epic!
