You know, it's funny. One person hates this, another hates that, and yet, we can always find somebody who likes/uses those things faithfully.

lol...... Personally, I find metagaming one of my best strategies....

And I'm one who hates walls of text!  >:(

I've got one that got me so pissed right now! Townies that act scummy to cause confusion. Yes, I said townies! How are people supposed to scum hunt with that going on? Lynch the most innocent-seeming people? And this is not an isolated incident, but a trend. I can't say more, since all the games I am involved with are ongoing, but this has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen since I started playing.

People, a heads up here - the townies aren't supposed to distract the town from finding scum. That's the scum's job. *shakes head* I'm developing the attitude that if they act scummy, lynch them just for form. Instead of "Here's your sign" we should say "Here's your noose." Wake up, people. You aren't confusing the mafia. They KNOW who they are! *shakes head again*

Held this back for a few days... Can't resist:  People who get offended because others state disagreement with their idea/thought/theory/whatever. Have more respect for your team/fellow players/mod than to potentially throw the game. It is a game and people will disagree. It is INEVITABLE.

OMG! YES!

PERSONAL ATTACKS! *rolls eyes* I don't get them. It's a game. It's a past time. This is not your job or a mandatory part of life. Most of us play the game with alternate personalities depending on the roles we're given. Being told "You're a stupid doodoohead." doesn't make you the King of the game. Gawd. CHILL OUT!

It was actually about people taking not personal attacks personally.

I do see merit in the role "King Doodoohead- King of the Mafia" as it sounds better than "chief mafioso" or "godfather" other similarly bland names.

The innocent are suspicious of everyone. I think it is easiest to act innocent when your mafia, it is much harder to when you're innocent. As for innocents causing confusing that isn't good. Dialogue and discussion and information are good. Confusing, obscurity, and a stale game are just good for mafia.

I don't like dying early in games.

Probably my biggest pet peeve though is that the active players are always the suspicious and targeted ones. I know the logic and reason behind it, but none the less I can still be annoyed by it.

Players that just give up during a game they were barely active enough to even have been considered playing at all.

Main reason I haven't modded a game yet on this site:  there are several players I won't let play due to the above, and I don't want to hurt any feelings by excluding people.  But as a mod, there is nothing worse that inactivity or abandonment.

I agree and as anyone who has played my games knows.. I have no problems modkilling you if you don't follow my rules of activity.  I do check and one day I killed 3 players.  All they had to do was tell me something came up.  3 second pm.

I understand the play more innocent when scum.. it's what I find myself doing.  I am WAY more careful of what I say when I'm mafia.  When I'm innocent I don't think about the results of what I say cause I have nothing to hide.  This is expecially true when I'm vanilla or don't have an important role.

*Cheers verb* With the caveat, this excludes people who have a legit reason to bail.

Absolutely agree.  RL can mess around with mafia, and it's ok.

Hahaha, I remember that.  It was awesome.  :P

I need to find those places where people don't do that. It annoys me too, when they sign up and then barely play or don't play. We can't tell if you're scum unless you talk, which I know is a strategy, but still....

Yeah, but when you're silent we can't tell if you're innocent either! I think it's my biggest irk, being too quiet and barely active in a game.

Heh - unfortunately, I don't think that place exists.  But you learn the people that do it, and stay away from games with more than 1 or 2 of them in it.

I have no problems naming the people who are my biggest peeves about not actually playing.  I love them as people but as players they royally suck for doing it game after game after game... maybe I'm just mean like that. :P

Verbal when/if I host a game I will exclude people. Or it will be a game where I send out invitations and the first x people to sign up from the invitations that got sent out will be the players. I think there should be group games, however there should be more serious games as well for players that are more into playing. I have found that this board is better about it than the social boards. However I would like a game that is more serious.

If I'm not allowed to do that it will be X posts per phase of game related material, and not just saying 'I don't have any idea right now'. That could be exactly what it is, but when everyone just does that nothing will happen.

I am going to be curious how a game goes that I just died in. I think people will blame the mod, but extra time per phase gives you time to conjecture. You can still have progress without phase changes. I think it will stagnate after a little while.

I find it amusing the dynamics of the game. The mafia play innocent and the townies don't feel as much as a need to. Everyone looks for the 'scummy' players which tends to be the innocent ones. So everyone comes to rely on night actions and the detective roles. Or until it is later in the game and you can see who was 'acting' or 'careful' or 'prodding' throughout the game.

The loud and outspoken ones are keyed in on since they are actually giving information to criticize and therefore find fault in. I am trying different things mainly for fun but also to see how they work. You can't ever find something that will work every time, but a general play style would be nice.

Do keep in mind Al that the more requirements you put on players means more work for you to keep track and see if they met the quota.  And you really don't want to be wrong about it and mod kill someone by mistake.

Last time I used Nae's method of 1 game post per day which is fairly easy to track using the print feature (especially if you are on top of changing the thread title when phases change).
