I made this one because with the exception of the Tower of Ghenji we really haven't talked about Moriane.

Her in the waste heading to Rhuidean. Yeah she's naked in the scene but its just shows you she almost as tough as aeil.

This will be my last your "favorite moment" thread from me.

It's after Moiraine already died. That being the scene wherein Rand reads the letter she left for him. I consider that a Moiraine moment.

1. the speech about manetheren. it's good stuff.

2. taking out lanfear, no need to explain that one.

3. when perrin walked in on her changing. i lol'd at that one.

4. her scene with thom in tear. i thought it was cool because you got these two epic daes dae'mar players facing off.

This is one reason that I really hope they both survive and get married ... can you imagine the kind of machinations over who will take out the trash?  LOL

Moiraine battling Lanfear has got to be my favorite. Her fighting Shadowspawn and her in the Blight are also good stuff. Her letter to Thom, and the rest, still makes her part of the story. Even though she is gone. NS gave some interesting Moiraine moments. Meeting Lan, and so on.

I would say the part where she died, but then, we just find out later that she's coming back.  :(

I guess in that light, I have to go with her weeping after her test for the shawl, and assuming that it must have been Elaida who cruelly summoned the image of her dead father.  :)

Naw, I'm just jerkin' your chains.  ;)

Honestly, I think my favorite moment was when she laid on her belly, fishing by hand in the little eddy with the boys, and laughed as she caught fish after fish and tossed them ashore. For some reason, I thought that was cool, and that stands out as much as or more than the more awesome scenes already mentioned.

The Rand and Thom letters were really good moments because it shows so much forethought and planning, and also so much prediction of other people's actions. (i know that she saw the future in the waste, but still a lot of guesswork)

Also my favorite moment was when she walked in and balefired Be'Lal(Sp?). I was wondering what was going to happen with Rand fighting his first sane FS(ishamael could've killed him but wanted him turned) head on, and with Be'lal being a blademaster and all, then Moiraine walks in and just burns himout of the pattern. Then shes just like, yeah I picked up a few tricks (i think we saw her balefire before though, with the darkhounds in illian? not sure about the timetable here)

I liked the part were she had to eat humble pie for Rand in Rhudien.  Seeing her at her wits end really made her seem human and it was also when she realized that she wasn't in control of Rand and never was.

And it showed she was willing to do anything to get Rand to let her help him.

These were mentioned already, but when she used balefire on Be'lal, and then, of course, when she took out Lanfear.  The scene with Lanfear gives me chills every time I read it, it's so epic and great and sad.  Also when she goes into Rhuidean, or rather, when she comes back.  You kind of expect it of Aviendha, and even Mat and Rand, but the image of Moiraine sticking it out and just being tough is awesome.

I like all her conflict with Nyenaeve in EotW, too ;D

I like that scene in NS where she's all anguished over that kid, Diryk (sp?) who she wasn't able to save.

I also like the part when she bonds Lan.

I thought for sure this one would be mentioned, but I've always liked the part where she pretty much tells (I think) Perrin, Mat and Rand that she would sooner destroy them herself than let the Shadow have them/kill them.

Aside from that, the scene with the fish that was mentioned (I've always thought she used a One Power trick to do that), the battle with Lanfear also comes to mind. Those and in Baerlon with Giant Moiraine ;)

This might sound weird but when Moiraine was in the stone going to talk to Nynaeve and Egwene with the Black sisters and she comes in all pissed off about Rand "OOOOh, that that MAN!" or something like that. You don't see Moiraine lose her cool that often and its one of the few times where you see the prophecies could be looked at in more than one way.

(gets ready to duck)

I don't really like Moiraine, except in The New Spring. I think her characterization is so heavy-handed and forced that I don't like her in the other novels. The descriptions are always about how coolly she takes stuff or knowing her tone is.  She's actually everything I hate about Aes Sedai, and I was totally hoping originally that Nyneave would kick her butt into oblivion (this made Nyneave one of my favorites early in the series).

So, my favorite moment is when she falls through the Ter'angreal.  I'm annoyed she seems to still be alive and coming back, I wouldn't mind if she was dead forever.

*directs seasnake to several scenes in The Shadow Rising*

Her mouth tightened momentarily, but she contended herself with pulling the wad of cloth from his side, using it to scrub away some of the surrounding smears. The old wound was a tender scar again. The other injuries were simply gone. The mostly dried blood that still covered him could have come from someone else.

Moiraine frowned. "It still does not respond," she murmured, half to herself. "It will not heal completely."

"That is the one that will kill me, isn't it?" he asked her softly, then quoted, "'His blood on the rocks of Shayol Ghul, washing away the Shadow, sacrifice for man's salvation.'"

"You read too much," she said sharply, "and understand too little."

"Do you understand more? If you do, then tell me."

"He is only trying to find his way," Lan said suddenly. "No man likes to run forward blindly when he knows there is a cliff somewhere ahead."

Perrin gave a twitch of surprise. Lan almost never disagreed with Moiriane, or at least not where anyone could overhear. He and Rand had been spending a good deal of time together, though, practicing the sword.

Moiraine's dark eyes flashed, but what she said was "He needs to be in bed. Will you ask that washwater be brought, and another bedchamber prepared? This one needs a thorough cleaning and a new mattress." Lan nodded and put his head into the anteroom for a moment, speaking quietly.

"I will sleep here, Moiraine." Letting go of the bedpost, Rand pushed himself erect, grounding Callandor's point on the littered carpet and resting both hands on the hilt. If he leaned a little on the sword, it did not show much. "I won't be chased any more. Not even out of a bed."

"Tai'shar Manetheren," Lan murmured.

This time even Rhuarc looked startled, but if Moiraine heard the Warder compliment Rand, she gave no sign of it. She was staring at Rand, her face smooth but thunderheads in her eyes. Rand wore a quizzical little smile, as if wondering what she would try next.

I'll give another, but first, my point is that Moiraine has been hiding how she feels for years. She is an Aes Sedai, true, but you can see in scenes like this where she is dealing with Rand her true nature. She's not always all cool and collected and all-knowing as she seems in the earlier books. Rand has a knack at pissing her off. As we'll see.

"Rand al'Thor," Moiraine told the air in a low, tight voice, "is a mule-headed, stone-willed fool of a...a...a man!"

Egwene spoke instead. "What did he do, Moiraine?"

The Aes Sedai's eyes swung to Egwene, a stare so hard that the younger woman stepped back and snapped her fan open, nervously fluttering it at her face.

[...]

"The guards," Moiraine muttered as if to herself. "I saw them in the corridor still, and never thought." She smoothed her dress, composing herself with an obvious effort. Elayne did not believe she had ever seen Moiraine so out of herself as tonight. But then, the Aes Sedai had cause.

Of course, I don't expect you to change your mind from two passages. It's just 5 in the morning for me and I wanted to make a point.

When Moiraine stops the Black Sister in New Spring, I loved that.  It was interesting to see her fight at a lower strength level than what we knew she would eventually become.  And I liked the descriptions of Moiraine practicing for her test for Aes Sedai.
