I'm going to get in early here with the Official Spiel! Now, follow what has been said and make sure you are holding tight since you are about to take one heck of a trip!

*official spiel*

Welcome King Kastchei! An email explaining important information about the Band is currently sitting in your inbox! Take a read! Also check your PMs too! ;)

Basically, the Band of the Red Hand is the Travel and Music ORG at DM! By signing up for the Band, you have joined the successful Raw Recruit Scheme. By signing up for the off board site, you will be able to experience the whole process to the maximum! The Executive Officer, Taymist will assign you to one of the three Regiments (Archers, Cavalry, Infantry) for a week, where you will be given various tasks to perform, hoping that you will get a picture of what time in each Regiment is like. After a week with each Regiment, you will be asked to pick your final choice of a Regiment.

While being a Raw Recruit, there is nothing stopping you from earning points like any other Band member. Points lead to promotion within the Band. Below is a list of possible ways to earn points:

- writing reviews on places to visit/holidays you have been on

- writing reviews on music albums and gigs

- replying to other people's reviews and asking questions

- composing Jak O' the Shadow verses

- getting articles published in our monthly newspaper, The Hornsounder

- posting in the monthly roll call in the Band's private boards here at DM

- any DM project we may have, which includes our Quote Project (speak to Amavia and Angyl)

- and much much more I cannot think of right now!

If you complete your time as a Raw Recruit within 3 to 4 weeks, you will get a special award (called the Raw Recruit Stripe) which you can add to your siggy as well!

While being a Raw Recruit, you get 3 free strikes. This enables you to break Band Law 3 times without being punished by the Redarms, the Band's very own police force. If they see any Law breaking, they will either drag you up for a trial or give you a fun spot fine to do (usually 100 lines of something witty). Channeling is a major no-no in the Band. As is spilling Battle Brew, our beloved drink! Once you have used up your 3 strikes, or join the Band's ranks officially, you will face the full force of Band Law like any other Bander does!

Of course, we are not all about working 24/7, as we do let our hair down now and then! We are famous for our bar brawls, which happen frequently!Keep an eye out for one! We also like jokes, tales, funny pictures - things that will make us laugh!

We also have many games - at DM, which can be found in the stickies, or the Lottery set up in our Dicing with Jak O' the Shadows board, which you will see once you have signed up for the private boards here at DM. There are also several games on the off board site as well! Also, take the lessons to learn our ORG Game, based on the luck of dice! You get the selected weapons of your Regiment, and can fight anyone in the Band! We'll give you a practise fight so you can get your bearing until you are ready to challenge a Bander. Also look out for our festivals of various games using the dice roller and ORG Game. There are many staff members for the Game who will be willing to help you out.

Once you have signed up for the private boards, you will also be able to participate in our lottery game, which takes place in the Dicing With Jak O' the Shadows board. It is a lot of fun, and your winnings can buy you various goodies!

If I have left anything out (which I expect I have!), do not hesitate to ask questions! Someone will be able to answer them for you!

One last thing...

*hand King Kastchei a Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew*

Hey y'all!  Just wanted to drop a little note to say hello and thanks for the warm welcome I have recieved so far.  The MG suggested I post a little thread about myself so y'all can get to know me, and hopefully I'll get to know some of you as well.

I am 31, hopefully not too much of an old fart since I've found a lot of online communities are mostly younger than I, single, and very musically inclined.  I play many instruments and am an admirer of many styles of music, so when I found out that this was the music/travel group, I decided I had to join.  I also love to travel, but am unable to indulge that passion much because it's usually too darn expensive!  I started into the whole WoT thing about 5-6 years ago and was instantly addicted.  I've always been a huge LotR fan (I still read it at least once a year as well as watch the movies including bonus features and commentaries whenever I get the chance! :P) and I picked tEotW from the library on a whim because the cover looked nice.  I was instantly addicted and devoured the first 7 books within a couple of months.  I have read the entire series front to back several times, so I'm pretty well versed in randland lore and I love to discuss it with friends.  If I were to place myself within the world of WoT, I think that in temperment and attitude I would probably be either Ghealdanin or Andoran.

That's about it.  Oh, I should probably explain my name.  KingKastchei is a reference to Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.  My totem and/or symbol is a phoenix rising from the ashes and to me represents overcoming adversity and making something out of yourself.  To me, there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome and no challenge that does not make you stronger.  So I have adopted the phoenix as my symbol and chosen a name that to me represents and reminds me of that.

Thanks Once again for the welcome and the brews!!!

I'm a huge fan of WoT and LotR too and i'll think you'll find that there are plenty others in the band that say the same..so I'll think you'll fit right in  ;D

Now here's the best drink in the band...a Guinny, (excepting MG Brew of course) drink that up and theres plenty more where that came from ;)

lol don't be worrying about the age thing either, we have a lot of members aged 30 and over. You're a long way from being the oldest.  ;D I'm 35 in about a month and there are at least 5 or 6 folk older than me.  ;)

Do you have a preference for what we call you? Names tend to get shortened around here really quickly. Hope you'll have lots of fun during your RR time and don't forget to stop by your welcome thread further down the page. :D You really don't want to miss the Official Spiel.

Hey there KK! (I'm too bloody lazy to write the whole thing!!... Err even though this explanation Is considerably longer than your full name... This has rendered this excuse totally invalid!! And has totally ruined my hard fought reputation as general layabout and lazy git!!)

*Scratches head thoughtfully!*

Hmm... What was I going to say? Oh! that's right!!!

*Grabs KK by the back of his shirt (Or whatever he's wearing) and dunks his head into the nearest barrel of water*

31!!! OLD FART!!!??? I'll have you know I'm thirty-bloody-one!!!

*Let's KK go then pats him on the back!!*

Welcome to the Band! I'm sure you'll enjoy it here, it is after all the best org here at DM...

*Hands over a few brews to help settle in!*

<shakes water out of hair>  What?  You've never had the joyful experience of being in a forum full of teenagers!?!?  I didn't say I consider myself an old fart, just that I was worried that some here might.  I must say, I'm very glad to be amongst a mature <snigger> audience!  ::)  I must warn y'all though, I don't really take myself that seriously.  :D

Another LotR fan *picks up KK and huggles him*, so you only watch the films once a year :-[, unfortunately mine is  few more than that, I love them, and been readingt eh books for years.

So anyway back to the important stuff...*hands KK a brew or six*, now that should help ;D
