Second, the word was bitter as it rang through his head. Second again, always second and second to him, to Lews Therin, to that arrogant fool. He stood on the Heights, looking down at the battlefield, the armies sprawled in front of him. Was this the time he finally proved his superiority? He smiled coldly and signalled for the horns to sound, monstrous horns that split eardrums, the coin was flipped, the dice were tossed.

 

The dice bounced, he was winning, the opposing commanders didn't stand a chance, this was his battlefield, his victory, those that lived, lived because of him.

 

Then the battle shifted, it was subtle, a lesser man wouldn't spot it. But he did. He countered and for a moment the battle hung, balanced on a knifes edge, the dice landed and he lost. The banners of the opposing army rippled in the breeze revealing the banners of the Dragon. Internally he struggled, the battle was lost he should retreat and fight again, but Lews Therin was there.

 

"THERIN" he screamed, throwing the challenge out, gathering all the Power he could. The True Power beckoned, sweet amd tempting but he ignored it. He's seen what happened to those that gorged on it and he refused to become one of those whimpering idiots.

 

From the other side of the field he sensed circles springing up, he countered knowing it was futile, the battle dragged on, then it was over.

Duram rubbed his eyes tiredly, the papers in front of him blurred and he sighed taking a sip of wine as he turned the page and continued reading.

 

The man was guilty, there was no question of that, but that wasn't the point. He read through the papers, there had been no errors by the guards in terms of procedure. He started looking at the Guards themselves, one of them had to be dirty enough...

 

Duram stood and stretched at the knock on the door,

 

"please" he said cordially inviting the other person in. He stifled annoyance as Lews Therin walked in.

 

"Lews" he asked warily

 

"We took Demandred"

 

"Barid?" he asked then bit his lip to stop the second and third names

 

Lews stiffened and nodded curtly

 

Duram stiffened at the arrogance in Lews posture.

 

"Don't defend him" he said curtly

 

"If I'm asked I will have to"

 

"I know your methods, the man is guilty and needs to be bound or severed. I won't have you getting him off"

 

"I defend the people who have no one else"

 

"I know what you do, will you agree to my request?" Lews interrupted then stalked out of the room without waiting for a reply.

 

Duram remained still for a while then left the room, carefully turning off the light and locking the door.

The next morning as the Guard went to change around Demandred screams were heard. Lews rushed towards the sound to see seasoned veterans of battlefields run past him looking sick.

 

"Sir, Demandred has been freed, the Guards they're..." the soldier stopped abruptly, the Aes Sedai, they've been..."

 

Rumours were circulating within the hour Duram Laddel Cham was missing

Honestly I think both Shad and Halli are scum. Both Crusher and Halli labaled the Shad/Calder thing as V/V. There's only one reason scum wouldn't use this altercation to push a mislynch and would rather draw attention away from it. Now that we know Calder was town... yeah.

Coming back to this.... Yes, I think we can safely assume scum would push the same story :P   Only they did it to come out looking clean after we mislynched both Calder and Shad. Luckily Clov spared us quite a bit with his peeks.

I'm thinking it's 7-2, and the only person giving particularly solid cover is dead, so it's time for me to hardclaim cop.  

 

N0 - Thane town

 

Reasoning: Randomized town

 

N1 - Dicetosser town.

 

Reasoning: After Crusher's flip, I was extremely confident that AJ and Nyn were town.  Like, I could not fathom either of them being mafia; I was obviously correct about AJ, and if Nyn's mafia here, then seriously...she wins this game every time.  Exceptional towntelling, great tone, good placement on Crusher's lynch, Crusher's opportunistic push on her.  I was pretty shocked when IR flipped town, but I would be more shocked if Nyn is mafia here.  This is as close to a peek as I can get without one.

 

I've already stated multiple times why Nolder made no sense for Crusher's teammate.  The only way that I could have seen him being mafia is if Shad was ALSO mafia and Nolder decided Shad had a better chance to win the game than Crusher.  Well, that, or Crusher hooked up with Nolder's girlfriend or mother.

 

Kivam was an unlikely, but not impossible, teammate.  In any case, I wasn't going to peek him after he directly contributed to a mafia lynch, who also went at him.  I'm not going to ignore the possibility of a two-way bus now that we're in POE territory, but it was't worth it then.  I'm still reasonably comfortable with my thinking that Mafia!Alanna lets it go random, rather than putting the nails in a teammate's coffin, and praying it took out Shad.  

 

That means my POE for my peek (and the remaining two mafia) was Shad, Calder, Zander, Dice, and Hallia.  I knew I wasn't going to peek Shad or Calder, because they were NEVER going to be teammates with one another; we could resolve by lynch, and a mafia flip would spew the other.  This was also true for Zander-Shad.  

 

Meanwhile, Dice and Hallia could have been teammates with eachother, or any of the other three.  Hallia was my strongest mafia suspect, so I didn't see how it was beneficial to peek her; if she came up guilty, I'm just lynching who I intended anyways.  If she's town, that's a clear player, but her being town automatically bumped up everybody else's chances.  This left Dice.  He was a reasonable enough suspect because he wasn't being super obviously town  - something a lot of people think he is, when is IS town - and he fit with the most number of teams.

 

Why I lied about peeking Alanna at EoD2: He died.  If I caught a bullet, it would SHC Alanna, which would have been pretty much as productive as actually peeking her.  If she was mafia, the odds I catch a bullet N2 over someone with correct peeks was pretty low, so there was minimal risk of "confirming" Mafia!Laine as town.

 

N2 - Shad town.  I really had no idea what to do here, but Calder's flip was a huge contributor to this.  I would have locked Shad clear with the mafia!Calder flip, but obviously we didn't get that.  With Zander presumably having been town, that means both of Shad's biggest pushers were town...didn't think the odds of Shad/Zander/Calder ALL being town were particularly high.  I briefly considered going Nolder here, but Nolder's biggest chance to be mafia was Shad being mafia as well (this goes back to him tying Mafia!Crusher with Unflipped!Shad D1).  If my Shad peek came back guilty, I would have bumped Nolder up to suspect #3 (behind Hallia and Shad, himself).  

 

Also considered Alanna, but I was probably most comfortable with her of remaining candidates, so a town result wouldn't have put us in much better of a position than we already were.

 

 

This means, barring an absolute deepwolfing from Nyn or SUPER!FPS play from Zander, we have five confirmed townies: me, Thane, Shad, Zander, Nyn.  This leaves four suspects: Hallia, Laine, Kivam, and Nolder.  We have two mislynches to give.  If we do NOT lynch within my confirmed townie pile (and I have not miscleared anyone...I'm pretty damn positive I haven't)....town literally cannot lose this game.

Calder's post #45 doesn't make sense to me. I don't think that post was meant as a soft defense. If we're going by Shad thinking this was your first game, I can see where it crosses a player's mind that newbies roll scum (are we looking at the same OP?) But at the same time, I'm not sure I believe that, due to your comfortability in the sign up thread or your OP. Shad is more observant than this unless he didn't really read any of it and took comfortability as a matter of course. Shad's first game was very ~odd in that he seemed more experienced that he should have been and many assumed mafia (coaching).

 

That being said, not sure I'm feeling the "half-hearted defense" angle that Calder takes. But this post is believable, as well as Shad's followup on post 54 (it lines up with my train of thought above about him not reading- how much merit is there to this?). His dodging posts don't do him any favors though, but I'm not sure that's within his mafia meta.

Tbh I was sort of intrigued by Shad's initial response to my vote because I didn't actually have a reason for it. His explanation in misunderstanding that Calder isn't new was plausible at the least.

 

Calder's push back was alright. I like that he noted Shad's +1 although I hadn't specified anything but he seems experienced enough to be able to play the POV game. His response to my vote was null but there was nothing really to respond to. I just wanted to see how he'd react early on since he's new to me.

The fact he's being helpful means ~nothing towards his alignment.  AJ is a very good player so I don't think he's incapable of making that post as mafia at all.  I think Mafia!AJ would probably WANT a bunch of early fakepeeks, since they (theoretically) would have a lower likeliness of being accurate and that helps narrow the NK poe, but I don't think he's going to come in and recommend it - especially when a handful of us recently played with him in the same setup when he waited to post a peek for accuracy reasons.  He was town, and I'm positive he's smart enough to know the sudden change of heart would stand out.

 

That being said, I don't see how it would ever warrant a FoS.  I'm giving him 0 towncred for trying to be helpful, but I don't see a reasonable argument why anybody would suspect him for being mafia for it.

Anyways... I said this post was odd because it just popped out of nowhere. My Fos was not serious, my subsequent post towards Clov about the seriousness of my post was also not serious. So, I found this post of his to be out of place because it doesn't match up with the attitude that I was presenting ITT at that point, which was something similar to exhausted playful indifference?

So far I like Zander, Clov, Andrej for the most part. Wary of Calder. Iffy on Shad. What I'm getting caught up with irt Shad is how he was in Pulp Fiction. It was a gut feel that he was mafia, but on the thread itself he was pretty clean. So here and now, I'm not getting that same gut feel, but it appears he's getting tripped up in the thread. Maybe things will clear up a little bit better when I read some more though?

 

I also get this weird feeling that all that's been talked about d1 is Shad. If he turns out to be our lynch and flips town, I'm going to be a little bothered that it was so easy for mafia to sit back in this exchange and let it happen. Basically, I want to see some pressure happen in other areas too :)
