24 hour days would be better.

Okay. Actually I need to think about this.

 

Game ended at noon my time

12 hour night means day 2 starts at midnight

20 hours more means 8:00 pm

 

So yeah. That's ideal *for me.* A 24 hour day would have us ending at midnight my time, which is also perfectly fine. I was just thinking that extra 4 hours might be more valuable in the bank.

 

I guess do your own math and figure out what the deadlines would be in your own time zones and shout if there's a problem [day would end at 6:00 AM instead of 10:00 AM for example].

Yes.  Much rather have a day end at 8:00 eastern than at midnight.  Anyone have complications with a 20 hour day?

My goodness.  We killed a townie D1?  How unpredictable.  I find your shock and horror to be very townie.  Really. No sarcasm or nuffin.

Apparently you voted him when you didn't think he was Mafia. If that's your bag then it's yours. It's not mine.

 

I believe that people who are more self concious about how their actions are perceived would be inclined to not comment on a Town being lynched.

But if we were self-conscious, wouldn't we make a post lamenting the terrible horror of losing a VT either chastising the players that voted for the Townie or excusing our role in getting the Townie lynched?

In how many games have you voted for a player who, on D1, you "honestly thought" was mafia?  In how many of those games has that player been lynched?  Of those lynches, how many times have you been right?

 

Without looking, I'm willing to bet it's under 25%.  Not because you're inherently a bad player, but because there just isn't enough information D1 to build a realistic assessment of any player, no matter how good at mafia you are.

 

So if you're actually a townie this game and meant that, rather than simply playing it off as scum, here's my honest advice: learn the lesson.  The odds of hitting scum D1 are sufficiently low that prioritizing "scumhunting" over information gathering is a bad play for the town.

At GMT, a 24 hr day would end at about 5:00 a.m. for you (vs. 1a.m. on a 20 hr day).  Are you honestly saying you expect to be productive between the hours of 1-5 am such that the 4 hrs would be usefully spent?  And if so, can we hold you to that?

Anyway, I wanted to make a clear post to end this day length discussion for good.

 

Day length:

 

We have 192 hours. 12 of them end in night every time.

 

If we want to use everything in 2 days, we have 96 hours per cycle, or 84 hours of day per cycle.

If we want to use everything in 3 days, we have 64 hours per cycle, or 52 hours of day per cycle.

If we want to use everything in 4 days, we have 48 hours per cycle, or 36 hours of day per cycle.

If we want to use everything in 5 days, we have 38 hours per cycle, or 26 hours of day per cycle, and then 2 hours left.

If we want to use everything in 6 days, we have 32 hours per cycle, or 20 hours of day per cycle.

 

Now, how many days do we want? We take the standard setup of 12 town 4 mafia. First, we think about worst case:

Every day, a townie gets lynched, every night, a townie gets nk'ed.

After 4 days, we're down to 4 town and 4 mafia. Mafia wins because town cannot get a majority.

 

What if we catch a mafia? The game can become 1 day/night cycle longer because we go down to 3/3 before losing. We also get the time of the day/night cycle back.

 

What if an nk gets blocked? The game would be down to 5/4 at the same point. In that case, we have to do something else. I would say, that making the upcoming day 12 hours shorter should be sufficient. It would give us an extra day, and if we don't catch a mafia, we have lost after that. And of course there are other advantages to blocked nk's. Alternatively, we could not use the 12 spare hours from day 1 on day 3, and have those around for if an nk is blocked, and have the fifth day be 24 hours in length.

 

TL:DR: Days of 36 hours won't get us into trouble.

Any less would be stupid because with 36 hours per day we end up with 0 hours the moment we lose majority. In other words, optimal time. Everyone's being far too careful with the time and should read above post better.

We should expect to have a total of 4 days. If we catch a scum, the expected time increases by one cycle, and so does the time we have. We already saved 12 hours from day 1. Why would we do so again? When are we going to use it? We can make this one 24 too, and then go for two of 48 hours, but do you really believe that to be needed? Would two days of 36 hours and one of 48 not work better than one of 24 and two of 48? We're moving too much time to the endgame, which would mean the game would only really get going too late.

 

And if you want to make it less than 24 hours... I already explained a few times why THAT is a bad idea.
