Kids in Virginia Beach had school today to make up for snow days.  Sucked for us teachers too but I decided to teach about the rise of the Roman Empire a different way.....by playing mafia.  I handed out 16 roles to my 3rd grade class.  They would all play as Senators for the Roman Republic.  Three, however, would be part of the first triumverate that led to the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. 

 

It was amazing to watch 8 and 9 year olds learn about mafia tactics and the power of persuasion.  Best friends stabbing each other in the back, Fingers of Suspicion flying everywhere.....and the mafia won!  This one girl had such a poker face and turned everyone against each other.  It was glorious.  So proud!

 

Oh yeah, and the wild kid off his meds who kept coming up with wild theories that no one was listening to.......he got lynched pretty quick.   Reminded me of someone, but I can't quite place who.....

 

ANyways, just wanted to share.
