This is funny, actually. I just played a game on JN where I was Town. I got blind lynched on D1, led by Nolder (also Town) based on his case that I was "active lurking". I blew off the first time he accused me of that because it didn't even make sense to me - I figure the game is on, people need to post to start figuring out what's up. The idea of posting sparingly, or avoiding posting at night, never did make any sense to me. I'm more of a "dump all the information on the table and we'll sort it out" kinda player.

 

In the past, I've made arguments about spamming helping the mafia because it discourages people from sifting though posts to find something, and wandering off topic, generating pages of conversation that has nothing to do with the game isn't helping anyone. But I would argue that the idea of not posting game related content or not playing at night is arguable playing to the mafia's favor.

 

If we didn't have a time limit, we could afford to sit back and dissect things - always make a logical decision. But mafia is timed, and quite often, it's a slip that will give the mafia away.

 

Does all of that make sense?

 

In context to this game, Despo's post did genuinely ping me. Darthe's posts (now a collection of them) have also pinged me. It's a place to start, and by introducing it to the thread, a conversation is begun. Players will all give their opinion and have provided evidence of where they stand along with a voting record. I've never understood why somep layers view this as a negative, but I get that different people play in different ways.

The first part of your comment was that I was quick to vote. I think that is a rather strange comment in a game where the deadline is in 24 hours. Then you ask why I choose Des instead of BG or Cloud. Do you think I did the wrong decision? Why don´t you think it´s a good idea to vote Des?

Point is you voted Des 2 minutes after DPR - yes I realize we have a 24 hour deadline, but that's no reason to not attempt to put work into it.  I find you joining in after so soon after DPR pingy - so I question it - you avoid my question, I vote and you continue to do so and then finally place a vote.  I can join trains for consolidation purposes, but think you are a better place to start.

Under that same logic, any talk helps the mafia, no? And under those rules, what's the difference between talking at night and talking during the day? 

 

Bottom line is, to me, it's a game of skill - of knowing what to say and when. That's the fun. Trying to apply standards of any sort just gives the mafia the advantage of knowing how to play. Like right now, the mafia thread is either got you laughing about how people are going stop posting at night (which would be handy in a game with 24 hour days) or it's a group deciding how to buddy up to you by agreeing with your opinion, again benefiting the mafia.

 

To the contrary, any activity promotes play and the sooner we put the pieces together, the more successful we will be in mafia lynches. In a timed game, the longer it drags on, the more chances the mafia have to win. I like to get concrete information as soon as possible. That means posting at night, on D1 and on N0 if applicable. Odds are always that a Townie is going to swing D1, but we get all of the info that will go towards solving the puzzle.

There's a fundamental difference between day talk and night talk. Day talk often carries votes and threat of lynch. Also, the mafia usually can't kill someone during the day to stop a case or sow WIFOM.

 

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember Nolder mentioning anything about a 24 hour deadline until day broke, so how is the deadline relevant to your decision to FoS Des at night?

Disagreed. Night talk and Day talk are equally important. Though talk like "i have a feeling I'm going to get lynched blah blah" is just WIFOM inducing.
