Oh and one last thing

If you are just a regular townie don't claim

Your purpose in this setup is to provide cover for the power roles

Claiming might save YOU but it makes it easier for the mafia to target the power roles

annnd that's all the basic advice I have to give atm

I am going to remind everyone of the play mentioned earlier by myself, aka and they all lived happily ever after.  If we have a doctor this isn't neccesary but since the probability of having a doc or the doc protecting the right person is low this means that either Red, Nol, or myself is mafia likely.  We are probably the three best lynch candidates today and I know who is most likely to make this play.

Vote Nol.

Vote Nol.

Based on what? You are the one spouting off the idea of a Happily Ever After and supported No Lynching, not me.

Look, either this was done by Red and she intends to play it off as a frame job or it is one and was done by you and is an attempt to get me and Red lynched.

I could sincerely buy either but you have more to gain from that than her and I am rolling with my thoughts.

You didn't answer my first question and here's another, why do you think I have more to gain than Red?

For that matter why are you so certain this is a mafia ploy? 1/7 aren't the best odds ever but they ain't no shiny pokemon either.

Right now I'd be willing to vote either Nolder or Red, to be honest.  I was uncomfortable with several things yesterday, including what felt like Red doing a bit of buddying while Nolder tried to push a policy lynch.  She never overtly defended me, but I don't think I've ever seen her step so carefully with me when she's been town.  Usually she's nitpicking on something I've said or done.

Nol's little helpful bit with Hallia when day started also didn't sit right with me, it felt off.  Sure, it's mostly a meta-based gut feeling where those two are concerned.  If neither of them is mafia I'd be shocked.

Did you disagree with anything or have anything to add?

Where is Rand? Can we get a mod poke or something? It's bad enough Des is MIA but now his replacement is going down that same road... :/

There are rules in place.  I'm not holding anyone's hand.

Just finished a read though.

Red is playing rather aggressively. Probably the most aggressive I've seen in any of the games I've played in.

I've played in a couple of games with Darthe, and his play does seem off as compared to other games. It is something he does admit

Nol is trying to get activity up, time that could be spent scum hunting.

I commented on those three because they seem to be the most likely candidates for a lynch. I think that we definitely need a lynch today or we are heading towards that lived happily ever after result that Darthe was talking about.

Sorry for my abscense today and yesterday; my husband has been sick and funny enough he's higher on my priority list than mafia :P He's doing much better now though.

Nol: Rand has been AWOL for a few days now, I don't think he's shown up in any mafia games or anything.

As I think more about things, I'm feeling less comfortable with Nolder.  It seems like he was trying to keep the attention off of him by bringing up inactivity.  A system he kept up pretty much until Peace stepped in.  I'm thinking he might be scum.

Vote Nolder

If I wanted to keep attention off me I wouldn't have thrown myself into the spotlight trying to increase activity in the game. I could just lurk like most everyone else seems to be doing.

The point is that in all the games I've played with new players, I've never seen you or anyone else that I can recall jump in with specific town power-role advice like that, and it felt very off.

That combined with how you handled day one, it's just not sitting right with me.

For that matter why are you so certain this is a mafia ploy? 1/7 aren't the best odds ever but they ain't no shiny pokemon either.

Red puts herself in the hot seat by doing what she says is likely to happen (though i dislike her current disappearance act).  1/7 aren't in the cards mate.  There are three big names right now and either mafia is doing a fantastic job of lurking (which, IMO, isn't a real victory) or it is one of us running the scenes.  Hell, if I thought they wouldn't do an NK I would go no lynch again because if they aren't going to kill its free cleared townies for us when the cop reveals.

^ But there is the problem.  That is the logical path that the scum wants us to recognize.  From there it is easy to anticipate a host of things but lets settle for the three main ones.

A) Red pushes through the day on me (scum anticipated) and get's me lynched.  I flip town and she is too tied to it to not take the fall.  Doubly so with no NK, it looks like she accidentally revealed too much of her agenda in the main thread.  Scum gets 1 more kill (this time an NK because of the offset from a no lynch) when the town has no real info because focus has been on us and they take the victory.

B) Red is scum and manipulating the scenario with the anticipated "I am being framed move once you and I are gone" Big game takes it in 2.

C) You are mafia and anticipate using the lack of any kills to stew the pot a bit more here, thus encouraging the lack of death from the cycle before to push this boiling cauldron over the edge.  Focus is on Red and I, you walk away as the leader of the town as it stands and can escape this quickly because you aren't as tied to it as we are.

Those are the three most plausible.  In A and B both Red and I are in the hot seat so it wasn't advantageous for us.  The only person that is truly likely to gain is.. Nolder.

Sorry guys I have been gone for so long, I think that Nol and Darthe currently are just going back and forth because they're both so active and therefore keep analyzing posts down to the smallest bit and then find something.  Basically, I see it as two townies going at each other.  I think Red right now is active enough to be seen as active, but is playing a little safer game than usual, imo.  So I am going to vote Red

Here are some quotes of me in maybe my third or fourth game ever. Source. I have always tried to help newer players. Maybe I don't do it every single game, I do have a bad memory and I don't always realize or remember when someone is new. In this case it came to mind and it seemed important to explain to Hallia how these roles generally work because I didn't know if anyone else had. I would do this regardless of my alignment and I'd hope most other people here would do the same. It's no fun playing with people who don't understand how to play.

Oh, sorry. First time player and all, so I know absolutely nothing about strategy. I saw NOLDER vote in his first post for a non-existent reason, and figured the first one or two lynchings would be more or less at random and for stupid reasons, because you can't really use logic or deduction when you don't have any information to go on. I mean, I have 0 clues about who the mafia is, and Nolder's not any less likely to be one than anyone else, you know? I just thought he made his vote pretty quickly, so maybe he already knows who the mafia is or isn't, and of all the reasons I have to lynch someone, that's the only one. If anyone comes up with an actually good reason to lynch someone, I'll change my vote, ok?

no need to unvote...yet
the first 1-10 pages are usually the "random vote" stage where people joke around, make baseless accusations, do a bit of speculating, ect before the game goes into full swing
this is mainly to kickstart conversation but also helps when we look back and judge reactions to things such as votes and bandwagons and such

I'm not quite sure why we have so many votes on different people. The ones on Bubbleman and Cpm seem to be fairly unfounded. This leaves the votes on Nolder and Bugle.

I explained this in one of my previous posts but basically this is the stage in the game where people are goofing off and just throwing things around
at this point there's no reason to be worried by anyones vote or reasoning
or even a small bandwagon imo
you should be able to tell when the game gets serious

What does FoS stand for/mean?

Finger of Suspicion
it's meant as a kind of pseudo vote or proxy vote
it's used in situations where you want to note suspicion of multiple people at the same time (due to having only one vote) or not wanting to place a vote to avoid a bandwagon/mafia blitz on the person you'd vote for

the less common Hand of Suspicion is basically the same thing but it's supposed to be a higher level of suspicion than FoS but still less than a vote

btw the best way to get the game moving again if you feel it's going too slow is to accuse someone of something and/or vote

What does one do after this task has been completed?

well it depends what you're asking exactly
if you've voted for someone you can push them to explain their actions to you or try to convince others to vote for them
or you can just sit back and let others converse
I'd recommend against that since it could be seen as lurking but like camping in an FPS "it's a legitimate strategy"

if you're asking what happens when someone reaches the required number of votes
well we wait for the moderators to finish the lynch and give us a death scene and declare it Night
which is when you'll use your night powers if you have any or talk to your mafia buddies if you're mafia

Ok, what's a Mason?

short version is this: two or more people who know each others innocence

longer explanation can be found here

it looks like me and Jess are the best friends variation

One more question. Do we learn affiliation after lynching someone? Or do we have no clue if we just hit a mafia or an innocent?

normally we learn the exact role/alignment

but there are variations where that information is kept and all you know is either that Person X died or that Person X died and they were guilty/innocent

they seem to be rare though and I doubt that's the case here

@whomper
we could spend hundreds of pages going over custom roles and variations
but the most common roles you will see are the following (consider that any of the power roles could be limited to one use per game):
1. Powerless Townie
can't do anything but vote during day

2. Vigilante
townie that can kill one person a night

3. Cop
townie that investigates one person a night for a guilty or innocent result
there are a lot of variations on this so just sum it up as an "investigative role"

4. Doctor
townie that can protect one person at night from being killed

5. Vanilla Mafia
knows and can talk to other mafias at night
can kill once per night (one kill for the entire mafia group)

6. Godfather Mafia
mafia that generally shows up as innocent if investigated and sometimes chosen to send in the night kill that mafia chooses at night
this is another role that has a lot of variation added to it sometimes but that's the basic version

6.5 Roleblocker
putting this in here because I just remembered it
normally a mafia aligned role but not always
can choose one person at night and prevent them from using their night power

7. Serial Killer
a third party player that wants to be the last one standing
kills once per night
this role has a lot of variation but again that's the basic idea

8. Lyncher
a third party that wants to get a specific player lynched
if that player is lynched the lyncher wins
if the lynchee dies any other way or is not lynched the lyncher loses

there are some other semi common roles like miller or enabler but those ones above are probably the most common overall in mafia imo

going off what Leander said
the Mafia (and some third parties) will often say things that are ridiculous and sometimes outright lies to try to manipulate people against you
it can be unreasonable and unfair and it's hard to take when people just swallow it up but it happens
people often get killed just because a mafia member says "look at him, he's scummy, kill him" without any real reasoning
your job is to
1. not let it get to you
2. prove to everyone how unreasonable it is

you might fail at 2 despite your best efforts
I know I have
but 1 is completely within your control if you try hard enough

as leander said it seems like you were expecting a bit more of an RP and honestly people sometimes throw RP elements into it
but on a day1 we aren't likely to see much of that
I really think you should try sticking around until day2
things get a lot better/make a lot more sense on day2+
