Olver: Bound To Do Something Stupid In AMOL?

It just seems to be heavily foreshadowed in his TOM epilogue POV, wonder what it could be?

 

Some Possibilities:

 

Olver decides to charge a fist of Trollocs, single-handedly with his knife...

 

Olver challenges a Myrddraal to a single combat duel...

 

Olver casts down his defiance upon the nearest Dreadlord he encounters...

 

Olver attempts to flirt with one of the female Forsaken using his most "winning" smile...

 

I can't help but imagine the following scenario; Mat and the Band with Allied Forces smash the Caemlyn invasion, killing all Trollocs and Fades while forcing the Dreadlords and Forsaken to retreat thru a hastily made gateway. A clean sweep, except the last surviving Darkfriend has locked himself in a Palace storeroom with a hostage...

 

Mat: He has who? Talmanes, what the bloody @#$%&! is going on? How did Olver get mixed up in your counter attack? Why wasn't Setalle Annan watching him?

 

Darkfriend: (shouting thru heavy wooden door) These are my demands, if you don't want your darling little brat harmed...

 

Mat: You see this is what happens when you start feeding random street urchins (Birgitte cuffs him in back of head). Ow! Cut that out, you know I was only joking to lighten the tension and give myself time to think...

 

Darkfriend: I want a carriage with safe passage to the Waygate, one of those Saidar neutralizing ter'angreal foxhead things, and ummmmm teen thowwwsand Andoran gold crowns while you at it...

 

Mat: What! Why doesn't he also ask for the bloody Queen to be his traveling maid while he's at it...?

When I read that, it felt right. Either he saves the day or dies. The story needs a big sacrifice.

I hope he saves the day. Olver has always been a kind of comic relief and he is kind of like looking at Mat as a child, except for Olver being ugly.

I think Olver is a "disclaimer" like Nicola. The story has shown us a lot of kids doing really dangerous things without proper training, and surviving. It's given us one disclaimer so far: "Kids, don't try this at home. You aren't Egwene. You're more like Nicola. Kids, don't end up like Nicola." Olver will be our male Nicola, and die pointlessly in combat because he gets in over his head without proper training.

 

I think the character has more potential as a tragic hero, the desire for vengence being his tragic flaw. And I'd like to see his fate left open, so we can wonder whether he leads such a tragic life consumed by vengeance, or whether he finds happiness. But in order for any of that, he has to survive Caemlyn, and I don't know if Nicola is enough of a token sacrifice in the same of safety disclaimers. Olver's blood may also be required.

Definitely a possibility. I said in another thread, I think he's going to save Matt. I could see him doing so and losing his life.

Or it could be that Talmanes will die saving both "the day" and Olvar. He's just a kid, don't hold it against him if acts his age.

I hope he saves the day, it would be obvious but it would also be proper to show that he is not only good as a horserider, i mean his "uncles" must have techt him more than just to behave ( or misbehave) around womens

I noted that it is similar maybe even derived from hobbled though (forced/cajoled/influenced to a decision to co-operate - as in hobbling a horse so it doesn't run away)

I think that he is going to kill one trolloc, and everyone is going to congratulate him and tell him to go back inside. He will then come out later, save an important life and will go back inside or fight.

Hardbottle if you're referring to the Olver = Cain theory from a while back, I believe RJ shot that theory down fast in an interview
