We can speculate about the setup all we like, but the only way we're going to find out is to play. The basic outline that Jack gave for setup seems standard to me, but I don't want to go too much further, as we'd be gaming the mod if we're trying to guess exactly how Basel set the game up. The SK idea seems like it could be an interesting idea for a basic game in the future, though.

Well I'm trying to get the game started and also set a trap.

The basic theory of the "set-up" trap is that the mafia essentially know who and how many scum is on their team. So I'm trying to figure out if I can pick up some extra knowledge.

Well now you went and ruined it.

Okay, so about 1/3 of the people playing are still somewhat green. However, using a bit of Meta, despite Rand having only been in one game so far, he does have some real life mafia experience and has open sign-ups as a Mod in the Aiel. I know he's seen the mafia wikis as well. Therefore, I think he is trying to fly under the radar as new.

reaching a bit to early Jack? remember what happened the last time you took this kinda reach?

No I'm trying to play the game tbh. Make the most out of day 1.

Your post was actually more scummy then Kaylees

1) shrugging off an attempt by someone to start playing

2) your second sentence isn't valid. That was an epic game. This is a basic game different scenarios have different parameters. Apples to oranges

3) in a game where the majority doesn't know anything other then their own innocence how can you be so quick as to crumble up and discard any oppinion or case at this stage of the game.

I am willing to vote you or Kay at this time.

Or did I BG. By mentioning the trap did I inadvertently spring another trap? I think so. I used a post I thought was slightly scummy to reel in a post that turned out to be way more scummy. Like fishing.

Missed you BG btw.

I've seen 12 people with 4 scum in a basic game. also 3 with SK. Hard to say this early, but at least 3 for sure.

This reads scummy. The at least 3 for sure reads like she knows it.

unvote and vote Kaylee

Wasn't there someone else that said basically the same thing? I've only been in one game, and then there were 4, so "at least 3" doesn't seem scummy to me.

Jack, thanks for trying to get things started, but there are a number of possibilities as to what the setup could be. I think there is probably 3 mafia, since that's pretty standard for a 12 player game, but beyond that, I don't have any opinions.

Sorry I started the Ospenya talk. I didn't mean for it to take off like that.

I think this was the post I thought of. She doesn't say "at least 3", though.

UNVOTE VOTE BG

I have no idea what you are trying to say here.

Oh, I just saw that there were 15 players in that game, so I suppose that doesn't count, then.

Count again.

Wow Jack, You’re scary. :D I need to watch you and BG as I believe you two are COMPLETELY capable of pulling the wool over my yes if you were mafia. :P

BG you had me completely kerpuzzled in the last game. ^^

The only part of the mafia wiki I have seen is the roles mainly. Plus, in real life, I tend to rely on expressions because you can tell things from people's facial expressions. I do not have enough online experience to do things like Jack did, those are way harder to do in real life due to lack of text and quoting. Plus, as I said before, the game setup was way different. If we were playing with 12 people, we would have had 2 mafia, 1 doc, and 1 cop, that's it. I am not a complete noob, but I definitely need to get used to the setup and the tactics in online mafia.

@Rand it a comes to you as you play and just think of new ideas. It's a lot of throwing stuff around and changing your perspective until you find a play style that fits you

I used numbers in my "set up play" I figured at least one newer player is on the scum team. I also know the going ratio is 3:1. So with there being three newer players I narrowed my initial suspect pool from 11 to 3. The set up idea was to see what newer player wouldn't seem completely new. If you get what I'm saying. Also a newer player who is scum, their teammates are more likely to jump in and attempt to save them. So it's not 100% accurate but it's an excellent place to start when you have nothing to go on. Also of you cast two nets you are more subject to net something then nothing.

@Poet I'm not so bad :p

I don't get where Jack is going at all, which makes me doubt his alignment. I'm watching you, bro.

The thing that sticks out to me the most is EP. He seemed to be trying awfully hard to discredit Jack. One of these two is mafia. I'll keep my vote where it is until something better comes along.

I think you did know where I was going. That's why you tried to dissuade the talk and also not tip your hand to extra knowledge like who scum is and how many.

Now that I picked out Kaylee, you are further pushing the idea away because I was spot on. My explanation on this strategy has been thorough so even if you didn't agree you would understand.

Town Lily would say "I see where you're coming from. I don't really agree (if you didnt agree) I think you're trying to make to much out of it." or "That's a good case, not enough to vote on but I'd like to see where this is going."

Mafia lily would want to stop gaming talk so no one would slip, and push against the "trap"

Mega play though. Run a lynch on me when I flip town run a lynch on EP. I'm not sure of EP anymore. You and Kaylee, well that's a different story.

I'm not so sure on the Kaylee thing only because we lynched her right away Day 1 last game and it was a mistake. I'm not so sure what she said was as scummy as some say. But I'll look again when I get home from work.

EP, I have my eye on you firebirdy. :P Then again I did last game and you ended up the finder. *sigh* :P

Jack, you just don't like it that I'm watching you. Deal.

You're blowing smoke. I didn't try to dissuade the talk, although I did see it as pointless, I'll admit. I didn't realize you were up to something. So, Kaylee isn't on your team, huh? I'm going to assume you're not dredging up the old gambit routine. It's possible that Rand is, given your "belief" that he is town. But we'll figure that out after we see how you flip. Unlike you, I don't try to figure out the whole team day one.

This post bothers me for some reason; instead of adding something to Jack's play or commenting on it, she's bowing down, it seems. Though, word of advice, never be blinded by experienced mafia players: they make mistakes like the rest of us and sometimes we can play them as well as they can us. lol

Same as above. And blindly following the leader? Never good, if you're trying to be pro-town.

As for Jack's tricks: "meh" I kinda see where you're coming from, but it can trap town as easily as scum, the same as any other information gathered in the game.

Note: I keep forgetting DM has multi-quote, and why isn't it telling me of new replies before I post?

Like AJ, I'm not liking Maw's game of follow the leader. It looks to me like he's willing to hop on and not do much scumhunting of his own.

DM doesn't consistently have the ninja warning. It ticks me off too.
