First couple of times through what really bugged me was repetition of explanations. I understand how the OP works, and the difference between a Sa'angreal, Ter'angreal and an Angreal. I have a little bit of a memory. You don't have to explain it to me in every book!

 

 

During my latest reread I have discovered something I never noticed before. People shiver, and it's not from the cold. And they sweat, but not from the heat. A LOT!!!!!! It's driving me a little crazy. When a forsaken looks at a character and promises to kill her, and she shivers..... I already know it wasn't from the cold. Duh. You don't have to point every little thing out to me.

 

 

I know y'all have been doing this for a long time, and surely somebody else noticed this long ago. Has anybody done a shiver-but-not-from-the-cold count?

I consider myself a HCFF whether or not I know how many baths Elayne took. WoT was the first thing I remember searching for on the internet back in the mid 90s. I've been an active forum member in one place or another since. I reread the series between each new release. I love this series and will feel like a part of my life is over when I finish the last book, just as I felt I lost an old friend when RJ died, even though I never had the opportunity to meet him in person.

 

For some reason it kind a bothers me that the Theoryland people often think of themselves as the only true "Hard Core Fan Freaks."

 

Then again, I've certainly not invested as much time as they have, but I still consider myself to be a Fan Freak at the least

We don't. Some people (probably from Dragonmount) called us that pejoratively, but it seemed to us a good description so we adopted it with pride.

i think most people that find one of these forums find most of them. and then probably make a choice for favorite based on personal preference.

Anyway, the only time I took any real notice of any bath/sweat tent scene was the first one in Baerlon(sp), and only because I didn't know they were going to be repeated nummerous times with little really happening in them.

I am pretty sure the first two of those don't actually happen "onscreen", so they don't really count. Or do they? We need clarification of the rules. ;)

The bath scenes didn't annoy me, when one came up I just though "oh yay... skim read time" because IMO nothing really important/interesting happened in them.

Her bath rate would be up there with Moiraines, which makes me wonder, did the Finns let her go for a tub? If not it'd be pretty tempting for Mat to dump her in the creek they are currently camping at...and Mo's bath scene with Perrin was a beauty, she even gave him a look!

Yeah I know, but I put the first one in because we had a scene while Elayne bathed if off screen and the other because Elayne reminsces on how Nyneave helped her bath. Those may not be onscreen bathscenes but I think they should count as well.

I was going to point that out in another thread, and then I realized that I didn't feel like looking for all the bath scenes so I could show how few there really were. True, Rand and Egwene have atleast as many bath scenes if not quite as extensive ones as Elayne. The only one who really doesn't is Perrin, which I guess makes him the smelliest WOT main character

Rand doesn't have frequent baths either. The only onscreen one I can think of aside from the Baerlon bath (with Lan, Mat, and Perrin) is the one for which the chapter was named in ACOS. And of course, the bath was only a small detail in that awesome chapter.

oh, good. i was hpoping that was it, because i always feel like i've missed a lot of stuff by not noticing the supposed bath glut, and other things that get forumed to death.

 

there are a few baths mentioned with other characters, but to me those are kind of a fantasy staple, a moment of normalcy and recovery for the characters after a harrowing ordeal. a relaxing bit, a break between moments of mayhem. i like them, because they strike exactly the right comfort key with me, and i can't stand long stretches of narrative tension without these little breaks. they go along with decent meals, mugs of ale and comfy beds in inns. and are generally interrupted by "unexpected" mayhem in the seeming places of peace.

 

so i guess a bath is like an ogier stedding in a way. to me anyway.

 

but ya, never seemed to me that elayne was in danger of pruning up from overbathing.
