The on-again, off-again planned film adaptation of Orson Scott Card's seminal science-fiction novel "Ender's Game" seems to be on-again at Odd Lot Entertainment after stalling in recent years.

Filmmaker Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine") has apparently rewritten Card's most recent script and is developing the project as a director reports The L.A. Times.

The story follows a child super soldier who plays a long simulation of Earth's fight against the 'bugger' race of alien insects. As the 'game' wears on, he begins to lose his sanity and makes a final and devastating decision that has real world consequences.

Wolfgang Petersen was previously attached to helm the film but withdrew in mid-2008 and reports came later that the entire project had been scrapped in November of that year.

After a decade of on again/off again starts, the film adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s sci-fi tome "Ender’s Game" looks to be moving in the right direction again.

Then in September last year came word that Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine") has apparently rewritten Card's most recent adaptation of the script and was developing the project as a director at Odd Lot Entertainment.

Now, "Star Trek" and "Transformers" duo Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci look to have come onboard to help in either producing or scripting duties. Orci recently tweeted "Ender's Game! Us(K/O), Oddlot, and Gavin Hood taking his amazing script to the town! Who wants some?"

Kurtzman is currently shooting his directorial debut "Welcome to People" which Orci is producing. The pair are currently attached to at least four other projects in either a producing or writing capacity, including the "Star Trek" sequel.

Summit Entertainment is in talks to co-finance and acquire the U.S. rights to the live-action, sci-fi film adaptation of Orson Scott Card's 1985 novel "Ender's Game" says Variety.

The story follows a child super soldier who plays a long simulation of Earth's fight against the 'bugger' race of alien insects. As the 'game' wears on, he begins to lose his sanity and makes a final and devastating decision that has real world consequences.

The on-again, off-again project has gone through numerous iterations over many years with various scribes and directors having a shot at trying to get the project off the ground.

The film picked up steam again late last year when filmmaker Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine") came onboard with a re-write of Card's most recent script and attached himself as director.

Odd Lot Entertainment then started shopping around a package in February and it looks like someone has finally bitten. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Gigi Pritzker, Linda McDonough, Card and Lynn Hendee are all set to produce.

This movie would be really easy to screw up. I can see this being "Disney-fied" and turned into a Spy Kids remake. Hopefully, whoever makes this, will explore the deeper meaning to the story that OSC wrote.

"True Grit" actress Hailee Steinfeld is in negotiations to join the cast of Gavin Hood's sci-fi action thriller "Ender's Game" at Summit Entertainent says The Hollywood Reporter.

An adaptation of the Orson Scott Card 1985 novel, the story centers on a futuristic military academy where children are trained to fight an invading alien force.

Steinfeld would play the lone female in the child army who develops a relationship with the lead character (Asa Butterfield).

I love Ender's Game, but I really hope the movie will be worthy of the books. If it isn't, I won't watch it. I'd be worried though, because there are a few scenes in Ender's Game (where Ender brutally beats and kills a child - older than him, true, and completely justified) but I would worry that it would be badly received by the public who might think it's a children's story when it's really an adult's story.
