I am an admin for a large American bank... and the comment about education having little bearing.... i have a degree in biochemistry cell and molecular biology.

I spend my days doing visual effects (computer graphics) for films (some of which you will have almost certainly heard of), and then I spend my evenings and weekends taking photos.... Evenings usually of live gigs and weekends often on-set photography for short low-budget films...

which might explain why I've not been on DM as much as I'd have liked....

I completely agree about a degree having little to no bearing on what you end up doing. My first degree was in History and everyone asked if I were going to teach. At that age, 22, I was like, Hell no! I wanted to go to law school and history is the best major for that. Well, I interned with a lawyer for a year and hated it.

So, I graduated, and went back to school and got an engineering bachelor's. I worked as an engineer for about 3.5 years and hated that, mainly because I worked for the government and everything was cookie cutter, no creativity. So I quit and went back to grad school.

Ended up teaching science, not really sure how, based on my engineering degree. I finished my Master's in engineering this year, and it does up my teaching pay, but all my students are like, why don't you do that, you would make so much more money. (Because no one respects teaching as a profession, especially students) I tell them it's because I love them so much, lol.

Anyway, I may go back to engineering after my daughter graduates high school, but right now it is too convenient to be on the same schedule she is.

I would like nothing better to have worked in the story board department for Disney. *sigh* Or the animation dep. I of course don't know how to animate but tell me how and I'll do it. *nods*

But, I was an advertising artist and absolutely hated it. People can show how evil they are when they want their project done first even if there are 25 projects ahead of them.

Evil.

After reading through this topic, I think it safe to say that I can break the mold. The only computers I use are at home (partially to read and post here!!), and have never had a teaching position. I work for a company that services primarily athletic hardwood flooring. It includes yearly maint. and recoating, hard sanding to raw wood, and re-lining and painting nearly all types of logos on these floors. I work in central Indiana, and have worked on hundereds of floors, but most notable are Mackey Arena at Purdue, the portable floor used at Conseco Field House by the Indianapolis Pacers, John E Worthen Arena at Ball State, and many others of lesser note. That huge train logo at Purdue University, that was me !! I mostly just fell into this job after not making it in college (where I guess I did do a short stint as a computer science major), but my heart lies with theological philosophy, and I suppose that led be to the Wheel of Time series as well as many others in the fantisy genre.

About, the lack of computers experience, that's okay, we forgive you....(j/k)

Honestly, I wish I had the artistic talent to do what you do, I have a lot of respect for talented artists, especially considering that I couldn't draw a straight line to save my life(CAD programs are wonderful!).

I'm in my second semester, first year of my Bachelor of Business at Uni. Technically, I'm also an Assistant Accountant at this mini firm, but most of the time, its more like data entry with just enough weirdness in it from clients who don't really understand the accounting process that I don't get bored.

Public Relations full time corporate slave for a telecom company (booooooring).

Freelance copywriter/editor for everything from magazines to television ads (creative work, yummy).

Hopefully, I'm gonna quit everything and open up my own dive shop in Dahab :D

I'm a sophomore in highschool. Right now, all I do is babysit, and I don't even do that very often. However, I want to go into speech pathology in college.

I am currently in my fourth year of a doctoral program in clinical psychology. My goal is to have my own private practice someday.

Harmony, my best friend has her masters degree in speech pathology. If you ever want to know more about the field, let me know and I can pass your questions on to her.

I am a mom. Yep, honest for goodness pearls and pumps stay-at-home house wife. I do have a BA in Art and I would consider myself a Master in Stained glass. Took up quilting recently. Love love my job. Could use some help with the laundry and dishes if anyone wants to come over and help. The hubby says I have to go back to "work" when all the kids are in school..... I think we will be adopting some babies in the next few years...... heee heee.

Ah, the noblest perfession there is, and probably one of the hardest! At least in my job the routers, switches and firewalls don't talk back or ask questions I'm not quite prepared to answer...

Honestly, as much as I love my sister's rug rats, it's nice to be able to give then back at the end of the day....

I'm a 4th year undergrad majoring in pure mathematics and getting my teaching certificate. I'm also starting to look at grad schools.

I am entering my last year for my Bachelors in Accountancy at Northern Illinois University. Thank goodness! :D However, I will be going after my Master's degree right after I finish that. Although that is where I am focused, I currently work for a mapping firm here in Illinois. It is completely different than accounting but both offer good skills.

i have recently been demoted from stay at home mom to full time college student and mom. *sigh* what do you wanna be when you grow up?? oh well. I'd have loved to have the time for something like an english major, but... time is money...

Caitlin, you're right, it is a small world. :D I lived in a dorm and the wing on the other side of the building was for teaching majors. Unfortunately I did not meet any of them, but there are so many students at NIU. Also, my cousin graduated WIU about 6 years ago.
