Jordan did say that the reason for his absence would become obvious later.

That's something interesting to look forward to.

Keep in mind, the only other thing I can remember him saying should be "obvious" is who killed Asmodean.

Rand is my father. Stop pitting him against Moridin.  :'(

Knocked up another unwed teenager, did he?

And to think I was starting to dislike his character! ;D

My father is the best dad in the whole-wide world!!! Bwahahahahaha!!!!

obvious? i hope it does not have to do with that balefire link. it would be so retarded if moridin could not intervene because he has some sort of allergic reaction to rand

Because he was sick. I thought everyone knew that the link between Moridin and Rand hade this effect when one of them is channeling? ???

Read the trolloc atttack chapter in KoD again...

Maybe he has a disease?

I agree - Moridin feels icky when Rand channels and visa versa - Moridin is probably holed up in Shayol Ghul with a bunch of automated servants and a cup of lemsip...

I'd find the quote, but it's when their faces start to merge in Rand's head - isn't he channelling? And Moridin looks furious? Couldn't it be more 'angry you're making me feel sick' than furious?

Does it ever happen when we know that none of them hasn't just seized saidin? I think it's happening when the embrace the OP, and maybe a short while thereafter. Not when they've been channeling/embracing it for some time.

If Moridin had gone Mohgidean and Cyndine could not have gone, as we see in a Mohgidean PoV that channeling around your own mind trap causes severe pain.

But as it was the cross of Rand using the OP and him using the TP why did he not just channel The OP thus oviding getting sick? Rand still would be ill but not Moridin thus from his POV it is win win.

Um, I'm gonna look silly now but:

1) Why's Moridin linked to Rand anyway?

2) Why did Moridin actually help Rand defeat Sammael? Was it because the DO wants Rand alive? If he does... was Sammael disobeying orders?

Depends on what you mean. Their Balefire streams crossed eachother. Moridin used the True Power, and Rand used the One Power. As for any other reason, I don't know. RJ wrote it that way. He must have had a plan for something to come out of it.

Yeah, that's what I think. The DO probably needs the Dragon to stay alive, if he's ever going to achieve the final victory (the Dragon is also a Hero of the Horn). Sammael would probably have killed Rand in self-defense, if he could have. Moridin wanted Rand to help the Dark One. That would be my guess.

Well, now we know.

Maybe that is the clue.  OMG, Moridin was killing Asmoedean while saidin was being cleansed!!

moridin saving rand's life at the expense of sammael because the dark one needs him apparently is just a dumb excuse to explain the retarded shadow maneouver.

moridin saving rands life only to give an order to take or kill him at winter's heart.

clueless moridin. something seriously is amiss

Moridin was most likely there to execute Sammael himself for disobedience to the Dark One. Rand just happened to be the weapon used for execution.

Moridin ordered Rand to be killed when it was learned that he was going to cleanse saidin. You can see why he would.

Now Moridin wants Rand alive because not only is he causing continuous chaos but also the link between both of them is growing so there's no telling what Rand's death would do to Moridin.

You know i've been thinking that Moridin uses the True Power so much because of Rand's channeling sickness. He can't let the forsaken see him stumble and get dizzy. They'll kill him for sure.

So he uses the True Power to keep his rep in line. True Gangsta mentality. Risking everything for your reputation

Elan Morin's used the True Power continuously since the Prologue of Book 1.

He may not have during the War of Power, but he's certainly done so in every book of the series.
