I was talking to a friend about this as i was thinking about 3 years-ish but he seems too think when Nyneave and Lan start rallying the borderland troops for TG she says somewhere that it had been 5 years since they went to the Eye of the World together?? Haven't got any quote at hand to back that up though.

Just over 2 years. You can track the passing of the seasons (or where the seasons should be) in the books. I think KoD ends about 2 years and one month after Winternight, but there are online chronologies (as mentioned) which are much more specific.

And yeah, it feels a hell of a lot longer. I started reading this series 13 years ago ;)

I'm not sure i agree with it being two years, I'm sure it's been longer. I was re-reading TSR earlier and at the beginning of the book in the chapter where the three boys encounter the bubbles of evil Mat says that it's been over a year since his life got turned upside down. So the first three books take place over the space of more than a year so if it's only been just over two years by the end of KOD then books 4-11 take place in the space of a year or less!! Surely that cant be correct because just think of how long Rand, Mat and Egwene are in the waste in TSR, it's at least a couple of months so that would mean by the end of TSR there would only be say 9-10 months for books 5-11 to take place. I know in the later books we have lots of POVs but so much happens it must be closer to three years?!

When Mat makes that comment, roughly a year plus a month has passed since Winternight. But this includes the four months that "disappeared" when Rand brought his party to Tomans Head through a Portal Stone. The only real action we see from anyone else during this gap is when Liandrin tricks the wondergirls to travel to Tomans head, so if we speak in terms of the time we actually get to read about, only nine months has passed when Mat makes his comment. Add to that the three month gap after the end of TGH, and you have a total of seven months out of thirteen that we never actually get to read anything about.

After TSR, there are no such gaps, which in combination with the pace slowing down quite a bit explains a lot about how so much can happen in so (relatively) little time.

So Egwene's only just over 18... cripes... jumped up little chit isnt she?!

How old is Elayne? I'm thinking about the same age as Egwene. Nynaeve... about 25? Min about the same? Aviendha... about 20 - around same age as Rand/Mat/Perrin? Faile... about 18?

At 'present', as of the end of KoD, Rand, Mat and Perrin are all 21 (they were all born in the last month or so of 978 NE). Egwene and Elayne are 18. Faile is 17 or 18 (I think she was 16 when she first met Perrin in TDR). Nynaeve is now 26. I don't think Aviendha's age is ever given, but she's supposed to be around the same age as Elayne and Egwene. Min's age is given somewhere. I think she's about 23 or so.

Especially with all the scenes where the three are so upset that those that have much more experience don't take them seriously, and that in 18 years they know better than all of the other channelers =). Sure Elinda is useless, but then you have AS like Verin, Cads, Morraine, etc. The other main difference is the girls seem to jump in and try and make themselves important, while the males are dragged into what they have to do. That said the smartest move Rand made was to stop trusting Egwene. As of late she has become almost as bad as other AS, and you see her contemplating what she should do about Rand. Yet another person wanting to control him one way or another.

And Elayne has been such a bad influence on Avi.

I thought Avi was closer in age to Rand? I can't remember the source though.

In a conversation with Queen Tylin, Nynaeve tells her she's 26 (p. 602 LEaning on the Knife - LOC)

Actually, it's much less.

Faile is captured at the end of POD  Perrin rescues her 51 days (and four complete books) later, at the end of KOD

Actually, I think it was 56 days later that Faile was rescued. Perrin tied the 51st knot(pg. 312 KoD) when they went to the Seanchan camp to get the forkroot and it

took 2 days(pg 625) for it to be made ready. It was delivered into the water supply about a day and a half(pg 614) before the assault.

2 years and a Half!

Doesn't that mean that Rand, Egwene, Elayne and co will get even more strong in the OP?

(Well maybe with Egwene being forced she reached her max already, Rand pretty much forced himself too..)

But would be nice =)

I just passed a bit in TPoD where Aviendha says she's nearly 20, so she's 18 or 19 when we first meet her in TDR and is probably 20 by the end of KoD.
