Could Rand have killed Asmo?

I'm new hear and i noticed that at least in the first fifty threads i found no theries of rand killing asmo. He never once acts even concerned of his disappearance. Wouldn't you think losing a forsaken would drive him nuts, and look for him. He was right there after all. He was starting to gain power as well. Maybe rand was just done with him. His oh its you line seemed a little informal to me, just like when the two of them talked alone. Just a thought.. Sorry if this has been discussed before.

That's because the theory is truly absurd. Asmo is hardly likely to say: 'You!" when he sees Rand. :o

I bet you anything that an admin is going to come along now and lock this topic before you get even 10 replies. ::) :P :P :P

I've seen it discussed. Maybe not as often as Bela killing Asmo, but more than once ;)

Rand does mention it, at least twice (the last one being really weird)...near the end of APoD for sure. So you'd need to be clearer on what you mean and cite what in the books lead you to thinking that.

Yea I seem to remember Rand seeing Asmo very shortyly before Asmo walked through that door.

I wouldnt go as far as saying its absurd though, as Rand doesnt think much about it. But I suppose the reason he doesnt worry over it is because he cant do anything about it. Thats how Rand thinks-take when he lost his hand, he had gotten over that before he stood up.

Seems abit harsh saying its truly absurd, its only a theory. No need to be offended by the idea. I have seen loonier theories

Geez. sorry. Was only a thought.

Hey dont worry about it - well done for reading 50 threads or so! Welcome to the forums, dont take it personal if people dont agree with your theories - I dont think I'd have ever come back if I took the first lynching I got personally!

The thing with the Asmo thread is that it's a major theme, and there've been *many* threads on it - many of the latter ones have been locked by Majsju and Luckers et al because we've already got so many.

Again welcome and enjoy!

;D

Indeed, the section started with Rand in an upstairs window (I think he was going to see Berelain and Rhuarc, he had Aiel with him), looking out at Aviendha, commenting how attractive she was. She was 'trailing her hand in the pool' or something - normal 'aiel mesmerised by water' topic, Mat was with her, sat on the edge of the pool and Asmodean was down there too.

Then cut to Asmodean walking through the doorway...

Rand thought at least twice that however Asmodean escaped, he would deal with him when he found him. Hardly the thing to think if you killed someone, yes?

The definitive answer came from Jordan himself.

Find Emma's thread where she posted a link to the actual tapes of the DragonCon 2005 Q&A Jordan did.  ( I looked, but couldn't find it, right now )

At one point in the tapes, a questioner asks Jordan to eliminate one name from the characters who might have killed Asmo.  You have to listen very closely, but Jordan starts to answer the question before the questioner finishes.  He clearly says, "Rand, Egwene..."  Then the questioner begins to rattle off her list of names, and he stops.  Once she finishes, he gives the 'Fain would have if he'd been there, but he wasn't' answer.

So, instead of giving us just one name, Jordan actually gave us three, who for absolute sure, didn't do it.

Thanks BOB D. Must have missed that. I dont think im ready for dragmount fourm. Been blasted sence i got here. just look, people are calling for admin.  Love RJ and his books. thought this would be fun. Again thanks,i did think rand might have done it, but i guess im wrong. I think i'll drink the wine until the cup is dry, and kiss the girls so they'll not cry, and toss the dice until we fly, to dance with jack o' the shadows.

Trust me the site is fun.

The admins have been running around shutting off most of the Asmo death threads -thats why I said that.

If you think you've been blasted on this thread-just wait and see the other threads where there are fully fledged wars in progress. ;)

I would advise you to stay if you've finished all 11 books.

I'd say stick around as well. We get a little heated occasionally, but most of the time we're pretty civil.

And Rand al Thor, that first post was a little over the line. Not plausible, yes, but calling it truly absurd...I can see why he thought he was blasted. And saying an admin would lock it before he got 10 replies would be rather intimidating to someone who didn't know the circumstances. Not that it matters, but...

Anyway, anthonyelayne, welcome to the boards, I'd encourage you to stick around, if not to post at least come lurk. We have a lot of very interesting discussions. Don't let us scare you off this quick, we're usually pretty friendly.

Normally I lock all threads about Asmo, since we have one official thread, even though the length of it might seem intimidating. But since I was out of town when this showed up, and the original question has been answered, I will allow this to die a slow death by itself. Unless it starts to attract further speculation about Asmos killer.

That said...I am quite sceptical about Bobs talk about hearing a tape saying something other than what has been posted at Theoryland. Several people who attended this Q&A posted comments on the original thread, and none of them mentions this. Not even Tamyrlin, who was the one transcribing the whole thing. So as far as I am concerned, RJ said no such thing.

Welcome to DM newbie!

*snugglebites*

don't let us scare you off just yet, everybody gets their theories contested, and if you think this was bad, you should see some of the others, like the body swap theory.  that is actually funny to watch :P

check out some of the organizations too, they're pretty fun, i must recommend the black tower or shayol ghul if you like spamming... and just enjoy yourself, don't let people scare you away!

Thats what I meant! ;D

I wasnt aware that the member who made this is new. In future, try the search bar on top. It is infinitely more efficient at finding what you want than browsing through all the threads ever posted. ;)

There's also a second, unofficial thread that's still available in this very forum.  That one was sitting at 190 pages last time I checked.  There was at least one other older thread that got lost in a server crash ( I think ) that ran over 100 pages, as well.

Asmo is the single most popular topic with posters.

I think we have all learned that we should make sure we don't kill newbies when they come in for the first time :P

And yeah I have never been able to bring myself to read more than 7 pages of that whole thread, then I just settled on either not knowing or automatically assuming it was Graendal....

Hey! Welcome to the board. Sorry people were sharp with you *glares at Rand because I'm never sharp with posters, no siry bob*. :)

It's pretty much already been said, but just to cap everything off, when Kisman and Torval and the others attack the Sun Palace in PoD Rand thinks to himself that it must be Demandred, or maybe Asmodean back from wherever he'd escaped to--this shows that as of the Path of Daggers Rand still thinks Asmodean is alive, and thus Rand did not kill him.

Apologies all.  The link to the actual tapes was posted by Isabel, not Emma.

http://home.casema.nl/e.f.delaat/audio%20tapes.html

It's the Saturday Part one tape at about the 8 minute mark.

At ~8:12 he says, "Well, you didn't kill Asmodean.  Egwene didn't kill Asmodean. ..."

So, my memory was in error about Rand being specifically named

Now it makes more sense. Egwene has a perfect alibi, so a comment about her would not really be worth mentioning. Rand on the other hand...While he in my opinion has quite a perfect alibi as well, his name does occasionally pop up, and thus RJ having mentioned him would have resulted in quite a reaction.

As for isabel/Emma, I always thought it was the same person, only different names here and on Theoryland.

Welcome anthonyelayne! As others have said, don't be put off by some of the comments made here, we're really a friendly bunch of people. :)

Last I saw, the thread on Asmo down the Structured Discussion boards was over 200 pages, and yes I read all of them. :P And I still don't think it was Graendal. ;D
