umm...hi!? where were all of you day 1 when I brought this up in the first place /facepalm

and luth, me and nice don't get along well

I shat on its car once

BTW, I'm pretty sure you didn't mention anything about information gathering in your post.  More like "DPR is likely mafia because he was third on the lynch"

Which, you might notice, isn't exactly something I find very convincing.  I know that when I'm evil I'm apt to start lynch trains rather than bandwagon because if the guy I'm voting for doesn't get lynched I stay off the radar entirely, and if he does, then attention typically goes to the later voters and I have the "hey, I just put vote number one on him" (unless I'm whipping up the crowd for the lynch, which tends to obliterate that defense).  I've played with other people who take the opposite route, and vote a random third person when a lynch train is starting, as a way of staying under the radar. I've played with people who liked to make sure a number of innocents had a few votes on them, so that if the vote suddenly swung away from the leading candidate (like, say, if they suddenly claimed), it would swing to another innocent instead of randomly hitting a teammate.  And yeah, I've played with people who like to play the way you described.

Hell, all counting up numbers on a lynch and voting number 2 or 3 will do is ensure that nobody really wants to put vote number 2 or 3 on, which means more lynches based on a plurality of votes cast rather than a majority of players in the game voting for a lynchee, which means less information for us to use on the next day.

In other words:

(Sorry, but do you know how long I've been waiting for an excuse to use that as a reply to one of your posts?  ;D)

MAFIA COMES TO A GRINDING HALT ON DM!

In an ironic twist of fate, DM's mafia players wait all day for a Mod, but to no avail! No less than two games currently run mod-less, and many players have been spotted going through the early stages of mafia-withdrawal. Several have advanced to the mid stages of this terrible affliction, and it is not a pretty sight. Should you come across anyone displaying the following signs, please contact us immediately at 1-800-I-NEED-A -GAME-NOW! Authorites will arrive to apply immediate DPR. The signs are:

* Nervous, paranoid behavior.

* Mussed hair, bitten nails, rumpled clothing.

* May be hanging out with a new set of "friends"

* May become belligerent, aggressive, and cease to be able to socialize or "trust" other people.

* Argue every point, no matter how small

* Keep tying shoelaces into tiny nooses.

Remember, do not try to approach or communicate with these individuals. They are in a delicate state and require proper care. Under no circumstances should you attempt to debate a point, or ever use the terms "guilty", "evil" or "scum".

Our operators are standing by.  The life you save may be your own. If you're good enough.

Please turn back to our editorial page to discover DPR's thoughts on players who try to influence a vote before you even have any information.

*crashes the party* i am sooooooo sorry guys. i had a sick kiddo today, so once i managed to get through the cleaning of the vomit, laundry, and child, i had to make up for my missed philosophy class today(which is really like missing 3 classes since it's a 14 day class all told). this is my first chance to get here today.

all that aside, i am curious why barms didn't just make up a scene so you could run with it...

Well, without further ado...

As the sun edges over the horizon, the exhausted Committee of Vigilance wanders to the town square to see what kind of damage had occured during the night. The body of a mason, FDM, had just been found beside her poisoned well. None of her slaves were anywhere to be found.

Nice, we've got a mason group active (unless FDM was the only one and hadn't had a chance to do any recruiting).  That'll be helpful

And Alys, Thorum was killed day 1, not day 2.

And FDM's death tells me nothing - she didn't even vote yesterday.  I'd vote DPR right now, but I'm going to sleep on it.  Not 'cause I think it'll make a difference.  But I've always wanted a reason to say this:

Good night, Westley.  Good work.  Sleep well.  I'll most likely kill you in the morning

alright, the schedule hath been decided!! (now that smarms and i have decided to get online at the same time)

day will last through thursday around 9 pm Central time or after the majority has been reached. the thread will be tallied and then locked until barmacral comes crawling through with a scene and unlocks it.

the night will last from the time barms unlocks you until late sunday night or early monday morning. the exact times will be decided at the fall of night. i will again be in to lock the thread and tally things out and barms will post the scene and unlock you.

the whole game should progress in this fashion.

all actions must be sent to both mods and may be sent in early. sending them in early may buy you more posting time.

She means to say Monday Night, as we are aware that not everyone can be on during the weekends. So if you know you aren't gonna be online on Monday's either, you best be sending your night action early.

oh damn it >.<

this is why I keep saying vote day 1 people!!!

[glow=red,2,300]DPR[/glow], for everything I said yesterday and kivam said last night

Dae, go look at Strunk & White - clauses in a paren are tangential  ;)

Anyway, like I said, I think [glow=red,2,300]DPR[/glow] is the best move we can make today.  Sorry, Wes.

*deadpans* Oh my goodness, people voting for me, what a huge surprise…..in reply to my accusers:

I’ll list what I’ve noticed so far - and I’ll do it without trying to sway opinions, thank you very much. Then everyone can decide whether or not they think it makes sense and build on this info, or they can counter and present their own.  Either way, we can start to build our database.

FDM night kill – This leads me to believe that the mafia are experienced, and that they have played with FDM before.  She is on the list of the smartest players that you would expect the mafia to knock out early.  I’ve dubbed this as “big game hunting” in my head.

Kivam’s vote on me -  Kivy is another player on the big game hunter’s list, and is another popular choice for an early night kill. He knows this, so it surprised me when he posted during the night and drew attention to himself. And I don’t mean a joke post or spam, he actually started case building for the day 2 lynch before he even knew what had happened during night 1.

• Could be because he’s trying to get information out there before his death – and he has every right to expect to be night killed in a game like this.

• Could be because he’s big game hunting himself, and the sooner he does away with the notorious players, the better chance he’ll have at bringing his team in for a win.

• He’s usually only this cocky when he’s part of a group, so I think it’s likely that he’s on one team or another.  Given the recent trend of multiple teams, I was not surprised to see that FDM was a mason, and given names like The Committee of Vigilance, I feel like there will be several groups in this game. Just a hunch.

• His logic against me is pretty standard. Which everybody knows, including me when I voted for Thor.  Anyone could make the same case against him for being the 2nd vote. It’s old school logic and it’s predictable, but most of all, it’s not convoluted. Which makes me think that he’s just rattling my cage to see what kind of reaction he can get. It’s a good technique – I use it all of the time – and it makes me think that he’s probably not evil. I’ll keep my eye on him, but for now, his play makes sense to me.

Vemy’s vote on me – I thought Vemy was a little off balance on day 1, which is usually not a good sign – and I’m not building a metagame case against him, but I won’t ignore the obvious either.

• He starts out with a vote on Verbal. Fine. Day 1 is about joke voting until the inevitable bandwagon gets rolling. The info we get from day one is usually not even noticeable until at least day 2. So there is no call to get over involved in a vote for someone or against one placed on you unless you are nervous for some reason. heh.

• Then he goes into “I’m confused” mode. He’s confused about this, confused about that, whatever. What’s interesting to me is that Luthine also votes for Verbal. There’s also a nice metagame style point in her post, but we’ll save that for later.

• Then Vemy clears up, and we get the helpful bunny posts. He thinks Thor is innocent. As do we all. He thinks I’m evil based on the same vote-placement logic.

• Nae and Dae notice, and report pinging on their radars.

• Vemy immediately back peddles and pulls the old I-can’t-post-much-cause-I’m-too-busy-in-RL routine.

Thor gets lynched. Night falls. Kivam posts, and up pops the bunny. Kiv dealt with it, and that’s fine, but the really interesting thing is that Luthine appears again to agree with Vemy. At such a weird time?  I don’t have a good reason for why Vemy would be all over the place, or for why Luthine would be following him around. But it’s on my suspicion list.

That’s it for now. What’s everyone else making of this so far?

hi guys, sorry for the absentee-ism; kinda forgot i had yesterday off so my usual weekend absence was extended by a day.

i don't know that i buy DPR as mafia.....  Kivam's weirding me out, but it might just be that he had more free time than usual and so had time to post a lot...  :P

i've done a quick read-through of what i missed, but i'm gonna go back and check some stuff out before voting for anyone.

I know day 1 I did not think Thorum was mafia which is why I did not vote him. I'm not sure how I feel about the Wes vote, except that it is being pushed really hard with the only piece of evidence is that he was third in a 4 person vote.

votes from day 1:

thorum (4) - nae, kivam, dpr, daet

blig (2) - luthine, thorum

boyo (2) - the dude, jelly

daet (2) - leelou, loki

kivam (1) - boyo

leelou (1) - verbal

dpr (1) - vemy

luthine (1) - bcx

not voting: fdm, sirayn, blig, may

The only thing that we learned really from FDM dying is that she was a mason and obviously a threat in someone's eyes.

I would like for a few more players to actually show up and play before I vote for day 2.

Posted

i think it more likely that FDM died for inactivity.  the mafia are always gonna try to kill the people who give the least information first, and attack threats when they crop up.  FDM's death is going to tell us very little i expect, which is just how a good mafia team likes it.

and um, where's sirayn in all this?  sirayn!  we needja!

Posted

Hmm...

Could be both explanations for FDM biting the dust... Inactivity and taking out dangerous and experienced players

*goes to draw up a list of suspects*

I'm here. Kind of. Had my first exam this morning and I face the dreaded contract law dragon on Friday. (I was playing the Double Blind game during my A-level exams. Obviously now my exams are less important I'm playing mafia less and revising more.)

Before I try to analyse (wince), is a mason what I would term a recruiting cult - a separate evil team, without a night kill, who recruits every night?

Posted

Double post - cause i can

OK wondering if the whole Big Game hunter idea rings true

According to my own personal ideas, over half the players in this game could be counted as big and dangerous, and the other half (in which i include myself) tends to be players who have played around 5-6 games, normally fairly well.

Yeeeeaaah im scared now
