    Sometimes, there's a man.

  1. Conan was actually born on a battlefield. Literally. Gerald Tarrant, the Hunter, from CS Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy would be a contender too, I think.
  2. While I respect anyone's opinion and their right to disagree, I respectfully submit that Conan would chew every last one of these up and spit them out as an aperitif. Seriously, the man is made of steel springs and whalebone. The stories say so! 8)
  3. i highly recommend these books. i've actually read the Farseer more times than the wheel of time.
  4. now that's interesting. long wait though. may try that link of yours, though, as $20 is a pretty good deal these days. soldier sun was depressing in the sad-sackedness of the protagonist. it was pretty hard to get through, and i'm a big fan of hobb. kennit was one of the things i abhorred most about the liveship books. also althea, malta, brashen... i basically read the story simultaneously appreciating its importance to the setting but hating just about every character with a white hot holy wrath.
  5. see, i pictured him sitting at home with a hooker to the left, a fifth of scotch to the right, a straw and razor on the mirror in front of him, and a little blood tricking from a nostril, yelling "WHOOOOOOO-EEEEEE!!!!! YES SIR, I AM ONE ONE AWESOME MOTHER$#%%%$ HOT DAMN AM I COOL!" but that's just me.
  6. i actually ended up watching the first 20 minutes or so..... i giggled the whole way. it fully met my expectations.
  7. That's right, Kaz, he was the greatest king Aquilonia ever knew. Aquilonia was the jewel of the west. This is all aces, folks.
  8. i think i'll just hug and kiss some nice poisonous snakes instead, thanks. 8)
  9. oz, i started buying platforms... though i'll have to go up soon i think; the 5 inchers are not quite doing it anymore.... that's a tough question, alys. they both have their merits. and you will prob'ly need as big a stick as i will to beat off the boys.
  10. See, I think Swamp Thing would be a good tempering agent against Conan's more.... ardent..... attitudes towards international policy.
  11. Alright, Alys, it's a cute-off. 1...2...3...Go! http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i146/th3d00d/MaeveLeaves1.jpg[/img] http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i146/th3d00d/MaeveLeaves4.jpg[/img] The wife: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i146/th3d00d/MaeveLeaves7.jpg[/img] As close to a pic of me as we got that day: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i146/th3d00d/MaeveLeaves6.jpg[/img]
  12. Now I'm not American, but I saw this and thought it should be brought up. An alternative to the usual suspects has finally been offered: http://blog.newsarama.com/2008/10/24/change-we-can-believe-in-and-maybe-fear/ Tell me you're not tempted; c'mon, I dare ya!
  13. i often have trouble coming out even at the saturday night poker game.... ain't no way i'm goin' to vegas without a foolproof plan to cheat.
  14. i plan on presenting a solid economic plan to the board: let's win the lottery.
