Who would you cast in a movie?

Recommended Posts

LOL Winespring! nice one!

I love that picture also. I think it is one of the greatest pictures of a WOT character I have ever seen.

John, I too like Hugo. What am I saying, I LOVE him! He's an Aussie! How could he not be brilliant?!!! I'm not denying he'd do a great job as Ingtar or any character he was cast as. he's just that kind of guy. but I think he'd be a much better bad bad guy, if you know what I mean.

I personally do not think Angelica Huston suits Cadsuane. I'm not saying she couldn't do it. That woman can do anything. Her Morticia still sends blood to my loins!

Guest Cadsuane

Hm... I was almost Morticia for Halloween last year...

I opted for Cruella de Vil instead. 8)

Huh, did you know Hugo was born in Nigeria? I had to look him up on imdb to remind myself of the face that goes with that name! I think he WOULD be good as Ingtar or as a bad guy. Not sure which bad guy, tho. :?

here are some pics of the actors I think can play the three heroes right now.

Rand: Austin Nichols (He's the one on the left.)

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/11/28/surface_wideweb__470x299,0.jpg

Perrin: Stanislav Ianevski

http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/6827/stan47sw.png

http://img499.imageshack.us/img499/7466/uhpviktor15ur.jpg

Mat: Steven Strait

http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/lions_gate_films/undiscovered/steven_strait/undiscovered_preg.jpg

They're young, just about the right age in appearance, relatively unknown, and their coloring is pretty on in my opinion. The two Two Rivers blood heroes have a darker featured look, but not too pale. The guy I pulled out as Rand looks pretty different from the other two.

Only problem is the guy I have playing Mat is kind of tall.

I'll try to find some pictures of the women and other actors I chose to try to give an idea what I see that makes them that character.

Egwene: Keisha Castle Hughes

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39903000/jpg/_39903021_oscar_keisha.jpg

http://blitzgal.com/scans/Blitzscan_KeishaCastleHughes01.JPG

See, she looks like a girl. She IS a girl, not a 23 year old actress playing a girl. I think that is important for Egwene's character. She looks unique and, man, she can act. I think she'd do well.

If you read The Last Knot in Knife of Dreams you get a good picture of what Two Rivers folk do not look like. They aren't especially dark skinned but neither are they that pale.

It gives me an impression of a kind of Spanish European look to a mediterranean feel. A lighter skinned Maori, could fit into that well wnough.

Still I see that it is maybe a controverisal pick along with Zhang Ziyi as Moiraine

http://www.chinadaily.net/english/doc/2005-09/05/xin_25090205091794531241.jpg

Moiraine is petite, pale skinned, like all Cairhienin, and with large dark eyes that have depth. She's Aes Sedai, so you can't really put the age right on her either. She looks like a girl one moment and maybe late 30s the next...

http://www.helloziyi.us/Pictures/zhang-ziyi.jpg

She was pretty strong in Memoirs of a Geisha, and she's a dancer, so she can carry off that grace with ease. I like her a lot. She'd be great.

Min: Eva Green

http://sports.donga.com/bbs/data/re_enter_100sexy/jb_eva_green01.jpg

http://adorocinema.cidadeinternet.com.br/personalidades/atores/eva-green/eva-green03.jpg

She just looks like she can see things about you that you might not want to know. She's sexy as hel7 too dangit. There's a bit of a haunted look to her eyes too though. I think that fits well because when Rand first meets her, he's actually pretty creeped out by her forwardness mixed in with her intensity.

See, more than just the looks, or because they are my fovorite actresses or anything.

You see, Keisha Castle Hughes isn't unattractive, but she's not gorgeous either. Zhang Ziyi is very nice, but she looks unique too. she's not a supermodel/actress, but she fits the description of Moiraine being very pretty if not drop dead beautiful. Eva Green is very seductive, but there is a bit of a character there too. I didn't pick these actresses just to preen and look pretty on screen (well, not entirely). They have some complexity to them, and their relative ages are close to what I would want to see them portrayed.

Now here's where I might break from my explanation a bit. Elayne: Elisha Cuthbert

http://www.e-jul.com/elisha-cuthbert/image/elisha_cuthbert-mar2k_ba9df.jpg

http://www.girlskickbutt.com/images/profile/elisha_cuthbert.jpg

I uh...I...shut up. I like her, and I want to see her in the movie, so there! 8) :D

Rand, you better hope I cast this movie.

The first pic of Keisha Castle Hughes made me immidiatly think of Faile 8except the lack of nose...), the second pic led the thoughts to Min, but still some Faile.

Nynaeve:

Kiera Knightley

http://scribblenation.typepad.com/photos/scribble_nations_25_most_/keira_knightley2.jpg

http://www.xzgames.com/tn9/images/keira_knightley_wall_29232i.jpg

With her hair in a braid...She'd be excellent. Her acting would fit well too. She can be tough and sharp tongued, but very ethereal too. She's a star I'd bank on in this role.

Lan: Daniel Day Lewis

Another star who would be great in the role.

http://a1259.g.akamai.net/f/1259/5586/5d/images.art.com/images/-/Daniel-Day-Lewis---Last-of-the-Mohicans--C10103887.jpeg

He'd commit to the physicality. He's a bit older now which is perfect for Lan.

http://crazy4cinema.com/Actor/imgs/daylewis.jpg

I think his presence and skill as an ator would carry through. He's very prominent, but he isn't really one of those megastars that would cost 20 million to get to do a role.

Thom: Gary Oldman

I know, the most obvious thing in the world is to cast him as Fain or Ishamael or any other baddie, but I think that's a little too obvious. He has a Puckish quality about him and a flair about him tha tI think would be great for Thom. He's a shape shifter and can fit in a lot of roles. Very rare though that he gets to play a good guy, so i think he'd jump at the chance to portray a Master Bard turned Gleeman. He's a bit older now, more refined. I think he'd be great. Another known name in acting, very capable, but not out of this world expensive, I would imagine. He'd do it because it would be a good role, and a departure for him.

http://celebrityinfo.net/content/gary-oldman.jpg

http://uncleodiescollectibles.com/img_lib/Gary%20Oldman%2013%203-1-4.jpg

Fain: Willem Dafoe

I know I know...I just got done with talking about obvious, and making Dafoe the wretched villain, Fain is a bit obvious, but...He's one of my favorite actors. He's just so creepy somethimes, but he has a bit of a charm about him. As the peddler, everyone seems to like him, but the heart of his degredation can be just below the surface. He'd do great. Again, not an actor who is going to cost you too much, so long as he believes in the work.

http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/lions_gate_films/shadow_of_the_vampire/willem_dafoe/vampire.jpg

http://www.blogdecine.com/archivos/willemdafoe.jpg

Logain: Matthew MacFayden

Yes, he seems a bit dour on the surface, but as an actor he did a great job with Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. I think his semi-melancholy expression should be well suited once he's been stilled. He has a sense of authority as well, so I thik it'll serve. Again, another lesser known actor relatively. He could do the work well, and not ask too much in price.

http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/8092/0035matthewmacfadyen2ji.jpg

He's a bit of a bigger fella as well, so I think that works as Logain is often described as being like.

Speaking of bigger fellas...

The big guy, the Captain, Bayle Domon: James Gandolfini

I'm really not sure if he would jump at the chance to switch things up and play in a fantasy sword epic, but it'd be fun to have him. His role in Eye of the World basically counts as a cameo anyway. It'd be cool, and it wouldn't cost too much because of the small role. here's a pic, just take the Santa hat off and shave the mustache off of the beard and there you go.

http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/dreamworks_skg/surviving_christmas/james_gandolfini/surviving.jpg

I'll have a more in a bit. I've a cold right now, so I have the time.

this is just a tidbit but,

i think that Padain Fain (Ordieth, etc,etc,...)

should be played by none other then Jonny Depp

he always makes a great crazy guy...

i also think that Sean Connery should be either,

Garyth Bryne, or Tom...

Johnny Depp is one of my favorites, but I'll have to say that he's rather too...pretty, to play Fain. He's a bit white hot right now too, so he'd be expensive. Nothing wrong with his acting though, you're right about that. He can be quite bizarre, but I'd rather have the actor be a little more unsettling. I can see Fain a bit in Depp's performance in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas though. He's too likeable me thinks. I wouldn't be averse to using him later in a cameo. Perhaps Be'lal or an Ashaman later on. Or maybe Asmodean?

I like Sean Connery as Bryne, but I think he's a little too old. No offense to you or Sean Connery for that matter. I originally saw an actor like Ray Winstone in this role:

http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Film/Pix/gallery/2004/07/26/arthyr09809809809809.jpg

http://www.copperlily.com/AboutRayWinstone/Images/RWwallpaper12-800x600.jpg

He looks a bit rough though. I'd maybe slot him up to Tam, or put him in a cameo as Bran, Mayor of Emond's Field or Basel Gil the Innkeeper at the Queen's Blessing. He's a fine actor though. I wouldn't mind him as Tam. He usually does brash, talky roles, and excels at those. I think he, as an actor might like someone more quiet and introspective, but very key to the beginning of the tale, like Rand's adoptive father.

My other choice for Bryne was Billy Connolly.

http://www.londoncallingmusic.com/images/billy%20connolly.jpg

He's a consumate entertainer and very engaging. I saw him in Mrs. Brown, and thought he was great.

http://www.methuen.co.uk/images/0413722406-large.jpg

Morgase: Rebecca Romijn

http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/twentieth_century_fox/x_men__the_last_stand/rebecca_romijn/xmencannesjs2.jpg

She goes more with my pick for Elayne. My fist pick was Nicole Kidman, but she's too expensive even for a cameo. I'm not sure she's the type of actress to take a role where she's not the main attraction. Morgase is described as very beautiful, so there you go with Rebecca Romijn.

http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/twentieth_century_fox/x2__x_men_united/rebecca_romijn_stamos/x2pre11.jpg

She likes science fiction/action roles. I think she'd love to do an epic that puts her is royal regalia instead of latex, skin tight full-body make-up for once.

the actor that jonn suggested for rand is brilliant in my opinion, looks wise anyway. is he from any major movies/tv shows? i dont know him personally, but he could be in stuff oversea. i think that the main characters (rand, mat, perrin) should be played by relative unknowns, once the characters become less involved more well known actors could be used possibly, otherwise the whole time people will be going "such and such doesnt normally play that sort of role" etc. the actors should be chosen for how well they fit the role in my opinion, not try and force a wellknown where they dont work

Austin Nichols is his name. He was in the Basketball film, Glory Road recently. He was in the movie Wimbeldon with Paul Bettany. My guess is that he's anywhere between 6'3" to 6'5". That's a good height for Rand.

When putting my list together I was thinking of actors that I like and actors in movies that I've seen that could fit the role physically and acting wise.

Austin Nichol...I haven't seen him in any leading capacity. He's kind of young looking, and he plays a kind of an impetuous youth in the things I have seen him in. He's more of an impulse on my part. He fits physically, and I agree that he should be relatively unknown.

Really struggled with Perrin because there aren't a lot of younger actors out there who seem young, but are relatively large either. Perrin's description is rather specific. For the leads, I highly disagree with picking anyone too well known, or too old for that matter. Older than 26 is too old man. I saw that guy in Harry Potter playing Viktor Krum. Didn't agree with the casting in that movie because Krum is completely different in the book, but oh well, I thought he looked right for Perrin. But really man, some people were throwing outrageous names out there like...Hugh Jackman...I mean the guy's into his 40's and can pass for maybe mid to late 30s...Eric Bana? Jeez, he's like 35. We're looking for 18 year old kids here.

Yea it's a copy and paste from the 4th age forum but nobody seems to post on that cast list so i thought i'd throw it here :P

Rand

This will always be the most controversial character as everyone i have spoken to has a completely different idea to everybody else (if they can think of anyone) and i personally think that whoever casts the role would do well to cast a complete unknown, at least that way they can find someone who fits the roll instead of settling on someone who isnt right just becaue they are famous. Not that people haven't had good ideas, but you need someone who can fit the role perfectly, hire a big name and the character becomes the actor, not the other way around.

Perrin

Jared Leto, after seeing him in alexander (every time i think that i actually paid to see that film i shudder but something good came of it i guess) i thought he'd be well suited to the roll of perrin. i'm not sure what it is but when i look at his eyes here he just looks like a good kind person who is forced into a roll as a warrior

alexander3.jpg

Mat

David Tennant, who is the new Dr Who and also played Casanova in a british miniseries (where i got the idea of him playing mat from), he certainly has the cheek

000D2BB9-B467-1260-A3CD80C328EC0000.jpg

he's practically dressed for his "situation" in Ebou Dar already :P

Lan & Nyneve

Richard Gere and Julia Ormond (saw them together in "First Knight" and i instantly thought of lan and nyneve)

gereandormond.JPG

Geofram and Dain Bornhald

Donald Sutherland & Kiefer Sutherland, I think that having this pairing would be a parfect use of the family resemblance, not to mention that they are both wonderful actors

Donald-Sutherland.jpgKiefer_Sutherland_1.jpg

Elyas

Joe Lando, I don't know what it is about him but seeing this shot of him, i just think elyas, he is older now than when this was taken (filming dr quinn) but that would just mean he has more grey hairs (so he fits the roll even better :P)

Joe_Lando_1.jpg

Pedan Fain

Kevin Spacey, a lot of people say that he'd do LTT justice, but can you imagine him as fain? he'd really bring the insanity of the role to life, and as such a good actor, he really deserves more of a part than a background role (as LT would be)

Ingtar

Sean Bean, I know that with him on the cast you'd be running the risk of having parallels drawn to LotR (as if they werent already going to be there) but ingtar's a great character and sean could pull it off so easily, it'd be great

seanbean.jpg

Bran al'Vere

Brian Blessed, I was talking this over with my mate Alun and when you think about it, brian has not only the features but also the charisma to pull it off, you could belive this guy got voted mayor, and he is one of britain's best actors to boot.

118208879_00b074594d.jpg

I might suggest rip torn (as was suggested by somebody before) but i just think brian would suit the role well :)

Gareth Bryne

Sean Connery would wear this roll like a glove, you could see him watching over a battle directing armies, and he just oozes charisma.

firstknight12.jpg

tell me thats not bryne, i dare ya :P

Lews Therin Telamon

Kenneth Branagh, I'll admit he's been given bad parts over the years (We'll just gloss over wild wild west and harry potter) but if you look at the intensity he put into the character of victor frankenstein in mary shelley's frankenstein you should be able to imagine what this guy could do with the roll...

I won't bother giving a pic for this one as he's mainly a voiceover role, (unless they did a ghostlike aparition always behind rand) but just watch Frankenstein and you'll see his intensity.

Thom

You need someone here who is serious when he needs to be but can be seen to have fun, so I'd throw my weight behind Sam Elliott, i saw the suggestion before and justh though... wow

150px-Sam_Elliott_(born_1944),_American_actor.jpg

Bayle Domon

Got to be John Goodman, I mean come on he does a lot of comedy but he just IS Bayle...

jgoodman.jpg

Ishamael / Moridin

John Malkovich and Jude Law respectively, John can be downright evil when he wants to be, and Jude has always looked just too perfect to be good... theres something off about him, and having him be an evil, psychotic B*****d would certainly suit
