Who would you cast in a movie?

Recommended Posts

Ive probally got a post in here somewhere already but heres my ideas,

All the young charcters, Rand, Mat, etc. should be unknown actors. (At least as unknown as most of the Lotr actors were before they did that).

Someone else has said Rachel Wiez for Moiriane - i like the idea.

Lan - some one who has a japanese look (this nationallity stuff is important to me) Maybe the guy who plays Jin on Lost. Not great but yeah.

I thought of Antonio Bandaress as Julian, tariens are ment to have a Spanish look to them, (and accent).

I like the idea thats come up a bit of Patrick Stuart for Thom.

There are also some charcaters i haven't heard many suggestions for (or got any), wondering what you think. Would like to hear some

Aviendha (should be unknown though)

Loial

Ingtar

Hurin

Leanne

Sheriem sp?

Suain sp?

Morgaze

Alanna

Verin

Bayle

Rand: Kevin McKidd - He is probably too old but I think his look is perfect for Rand. He can be so cold and brooding it would fit amazingly for the "hard" Rand.

Mat: Adrian Grenier - Has proven he can play the care free and mischevious part that is the heart of Mat character.

Perrin: Tom Welling - He is a pretty big guy that could easily pull off the quite and thoughtfull Perrin.

Tom: Sam Elliot - Lots of people have mentioned this actor for the part of Tom and I always thought he would be perfect for the role.

Lan: Russell Crowe - He is big, rugged, and has no problem playing the reserved leader/badass. I think he would make a great Lan.

Moiraine: Zhang Ziyi - I really like John's choice for Moiraine. I have always felt that the description of Cairhienin characters resembles that of Asians.

Padan Fain: Robin Williams - He is a great actor and can easily pull off "crazy."

Ba'alzamon: Johnny Depp - Great actor that is good looking and can play the dark, mysterious, and slightly off his rocker Heart of the Dark.

Nyneave: Indira Varma - This women is a beauty. Dark hair and eyes and a commanding presence.

Egwene: Jessica Alba - Again a beautiful women. Perfect build and features for Egwene.

Min: Keira Knightley - Gorgeous but has a toughness about her that is perfect for Min.

Elayne: Scarlett Johansson - She was born to play the role of Elayne.

I just read through everyone's suggestions for different characters. I would love to see a WOT series, but personally think that they should do open casting and find some more unknown talent. For me, I would have trouble seeing the characters through more well know actors. If they got less known people for the roles, there may be a greater chance to find the "perfect" person for the part. Just my two cents.

to sorta wade my way into this discussion... i dont think i would make a live action wot movie... i would want to make anything as close to the books as possible so i think i would make a whole tonne of computer animated cartoons and just get some good voice actors... that way everything could look as close to how rj wants it to as possible...

No. I would have to agree with Maj when he posted at the begining of the thread that Matt And Perrin need to be cast from unknowns. However Rand Needs to be a Name of Some Sort in order to Bring Attention to the Movie.

Definatly having the Dude from the Mummy and Deuce Bigalo movie ( Name is Oded Fehr by the way) as Lan. I mean come on...Scott Bakula? As Lan? Totally not beliveable.

I like Emma Thompson as Moraine. It Fits. She has a nice accent, and an agless quality about her. Plus she's not as High Profile as some other actors people were suggesting.

Those are some ideas anyway, but i'll be posting a Almost complete list shortly.

I have been in casting pretty much since I was 18. So i've been doing this awhile, but Maj's Suggestion of Unknowns for the lead (excluding Rand), is damn near brilliant. I mean it's got a great story line, we don't want to take from that do we? you cast High profile players in movies with weak plots and story lines in hopes they can help surmount the failing. Take Johnny Depp. Dead Man... HORRIBLE MOVIE! But Johnny Depp was FANTASTIC in it.

Post more later. :)

Rand- Paul Walker? Best Fit. I had Thought about Seth Green but he's like what 4'3"? :)

Matt-Tom Welling

Perin- Jon Favreau

Egwene- Rachel Lee Cook

Nynaeve- Eliza Dushku

Elayne- Elisha Cuthbert

Thom Merrilin- Patrick Stewart? Maybe Christopher Lee? The person has to have a sense of humor AND be slick all at the same time. I think either one of these actors would work.

Lan- Oded Fehr

Moraine- Emma Thompson

Loial- Michael Clarke Duncan. He has the Nose AND

the Voice. Throw some Vulcan ears on him and BINGO!

Faile- Mila Kunis

Min- Alexis Bledel

Sammael- Gary Oldman

Rahvin- Billy Zane

Lanfear- Juliet Landau

Graendal- Alicia Silverstone

Bit Part for Aurther Hawkwing...

Sean Connary! Oh yeah.

That's all I got for now. But keep in mind while posting that even IF they were serious about a movie, that it would probably have to have Sub-par to unknown actors/actresses in it for a Studio to come anywhere near it. Or it would have to be done independant... Too high of a Budget, escpecially since there would be lots of Special effects (Call up ILM!!! Lucas Here We Come!), means low profit margins for studios. but I would LOVE to see a Multi-Film series come out in theaters.

Director? I would stay away from The "Buffy" guy, and go towards a more special effect oriented guy, though I did see Serenity and I have to say THAT was a wonderful movie.

Enough of me today. LATER!

Rand- Paul Walker? Best Fit. I had Thought about Seth Green but he's like what 4'3"? :)

Too old, I think. He's like 30, and he pretty much screams, b-movie. Good look though, about 5 years ago. He's in his 30's now.

Matt-Tom Welling

He's my pick for Galad. He has a prettiness about him, like a male model type, but he pulls off this virtuous, self-righteous thing as well. I can see how that would drive Elayne nuts. If not Galad, I'd look at him to play Jahar Narishma later on maybe.

Perin- Jon Favreau

Waaaay too old for an 18-year old. He looked about right as a grad student in Rudy, and that was over 10 years ago. He was my pick for Lamgwin, Basel Gil's bouncer. He can look kind of sleepy and jovial, but there's a menace that can be concealed by that front. He has a good enough sense of humr, I'd take a second to consider him for Bayle Domon. that'd be kind of fun.

Egwene- Rachel Lee Cook

Hmmm...interesting. Again , a bit too old to pass for a 16-year-old. I'd consider her for Min or Nynaeve.

Nynaeve- Eliza Dushku

Nice. I'm actually tempted to save her for Berelain. Good pick, though, I'm not too sure about her acting chops. Nynaeve is a delicate role in that respect. You need someone who is really good to keep her from just seeming like a bossy $#@$#.

Elayne- Elisha Cuthbert

A fine choice. ;) Charming and vulnerable with a hint of frost on her, and so dam pretty.

Thom Merrilin- Patrick Stewart? Maybe Christopher Lee? The person has to have a sense of humor AND be slick all at the same time. I think either one of these actors would work.

I like Patrick Stewart. The only problem is that Thom, even wounded by a myrdraal weapon, is pretty spry and can move alramingly well for an older gentleman. Now Captain Picard was quite spry in his Star TRek days, but that was nigh on 20 years ago. If I can have a second choice behind Gary Oldman, I'd have to go with Hugo Weaving with some make-up touches to age him a bit. I never pictured Thom much more than 60 anyway.

Lan- Oded Fehr

Brilliant choice. I like it a lot. If not Lan, for me he'd be a great Taim.

Moraine- Emma Thompson

Again, sorry, but I just think she'd look too old. Moiraine is a 40-year old woman, but she doesn't look it. she's also dark haired and dark of eye. that means basically black or really dark brown. Emma Thompson is rather fair. She's talented, certainly, but her look isn't right for Moiraine.

Loial- Michael Clarke Duncan. He has the Nose AND

the Voice. Throw some Vulcan ears on him and BINGO!

The voice is right.

Faile- Mila Kunis

Cute, but can she act? Maxim models and the like are well and good, but we're not talking about a magazine spread here nor a teen movie boobies flick. Acting is crucial, just as important as the look and feel. Besides, Faile is about Egwene's age, so think 16-19. As she's later in the story, I haven't thought too hard on Faile yet.

Min- Alexis Bledel

I really REALLY like this pick. Excellent.

Sammael- Gary Oldman

Nah, Sammael is stocky and athletic looking.

Rahvin- Billy Zane

I like it.

Lanfear- Juliet Landau

Hmm...I can see her losing it at the Docks. Interesting pick. Not a frontrunner for me though. Liv Tyler or Angelina Jolie would work well, but they seem too high profile. Still, I can't see who wouldn't jump at the chance to be one of the most electrifying villainesses of all time.

Graendal- Alicia Silverstone

Hehe, good for you. At least someone is willing to give her some work. I think it may actually work out. My choice at the moment is Polly Parker from HBO's Rome.

mat: jake gyllenhaal

Yeah, just a bit too old, but his look isn't too bad. Marginal...He could pull it off, perhaps.

perrin: Eric Bana

Way too old. He'd make a decent Lan.

Egwene: Rachel Bilson

Again, age and acting chops. Age is the problem here. She's 25. Egwene is 16 starting out in the first book.

Nynaeve: Holly Mary Combs

Maybe. Age...Nynaeve looks no older than 18-21

thom merrilin: Sam Elliot

Can't complain too much about this one except the cowboyisheness of his manner and voice.

Lan: mark ferguson(look at him as Gil-Galad, then transfer him into a different costume/outfit and put a hadori on him, hes perfect).

Looks, maybe, but I have no idea about his acting.

Aviendha: Adriana Lima(i dont care what any of you say she looks like a perfect aviendha to me).

Yes, but can she act the part? besides, Aviendha has light colored hair.

Elayne: Kate Bosworth

I don't see it. maybe a Min, or even a Moiraine, but not Elayne.

Min: Mandy Moore

Uh...no.

Gawyn: Hayden Christiensen(sorry about the spelling!!!!!!!!!! lol)

you know what...that's pretty brilliant. Gawyn always struck me as a whiny pouter. This pick would work.

Agreed. Pretty much everyone else you suggested in place of my pics were people that I considered previously. So were right on track.

on another note, i would like to say for the record, that after discussing this with some of my co-workers, we all came to the conclusion that we would rather see a prequal to the WOT series before any WOT came out. Something of the Age of Legends, either in book form or in movie form. I would love to see/read about the rise of Auther Hawkwing, or the Fall of the Ten Nations, The Destruction of Manatheren, The Over-running of the Seven Towers, maybe even the Rise of the White Tower. Who knows. But That would be required information to really pull off a movie based on these books.

I mean before LOTR movies, there was the Hobbitt...in book and animated feature...

What about Emma Watson for Elayne?

She'd be a pretty good Egwene actually.

I do hesitate though at the thought of type-casting the girl into roles where she does magical things.

Oh, and no offense to anyone in particular but I'll say this as many times as I need to:

Eric Bana is too old to play an 18-year-old Perrin.

The guy's nearly 40 people. He's a good two decades too old.

That and his body type seems off. Perrin is rather brawny and really heavy in the shoulders. Eric Bana's transformation into the Hulk was computer generated, ok. Talented actor to be sure, but just simply wrong for Perrin.

Nynaeve: Kira Knightly

I picked her for Nynaeve as well. She would look good as a couple with my pick for Lan, Daniel Day Lewis.

Padan Fain: Edward Norton

I can see that. Nice choice.

Rahvin: Brad Pitt

That would be spectacular. Too bad he costs so much to hire.

Faile: Eliza Dushku

Too old I think. Faile is about 16.

Elaida: Marcia Cross

Wonderful choice!

Lanfear: Rose McGowan

Hmm, another good one.

Moridin: David Boreanaz

I'd definately cast him somewhere if I could. Angel was one of my favorite shows.

Geofram Bornhald: Peter Stormare

Hmm...interesting. He strikes me as too odd I guess. Geofram is very dignified and commanding.

Elayne: Rachel Nichols

A bit too old for Elayne. My cutoff is at 22-23.

Egwene: Natalie Portman

Again, a little too old. Natalie Portman is 25. Egwene is 16.

I really think it's important that these principle actors are close to their character's age. I'd make the stretch for a 5 year cushion, but when you're closing in on a 10 year age difference...have to draw a line somewhere.

Characters around the age of 30 are easier to manage the difference in age for an actor.

I think at this stage, trying to play a teenager with an actor in their mid to late 20's into their 30s doesn't work anymore. Audiences can get pretty sophisticated when it comes to such details.
