Who would you cast in a movie?

When I'm reading, I can see it all happen, as I am standing next to the characters. That's why I don't care about height etc. You can't just order someone to picture someone in a certain way. I'm even having difficulties imagining Egwene as a brunette and not as a blonde. I saw her as a blonde before I knew she was a brunette. Goes to show that everybody has their own ideas and fantasies. These are the character I see:

Rhand: Jonathan Brandis (don't know why but when I saw the picture at the top of the site, I just saw him)

Lan: vigo mortensen (need I say more)

OR Josh Holloway (Sawyer in Lost) although he could be Perijn too

Min: someone like Kristin Kreuk

Nynaeve: Rachel Bilson

I also see Evangeline Lilly somewhere but I can't make up my mind...

Maybe Rachel Bilson as Elayne (stubborn and with her head up) and then Evangeline as Nynaeve.

Ahhhh yes, the cast list! I was formulating mine right as the last version of DM went down, and in the meantime got too distracted with other things to get back to it! Some are based on personality, some are based on looks. Some are great for both! This is my list so far:

Forsaken:

Lanfear - Catherine Zeta Jones

Graendal – Michelle Pfeiffer

Sammael - Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy)

Ishy - John Malkovich

Moridin - Christian Bale

Mogie - Famke Jansen

Semi - Naomi Campbell or Angela Bassett

Rahvin - Pierce Brosnan or Alec Baldwin or George Clooney

Asmodean - Hugh Jackman or Johnny Depp (comically melodramatic)

Aran’gar/Halima – Selma Hayak

Demandred – Dylan McDermott

Dragons, false or otherwise:

Rand - Hayden Christiansen or James Franco, or Shane West

Logain – Eric Bana with longer, darker hair

Mazrim Taim – Tom Cruise (crazy sonofabitch)

The Ladies of Team Light:

Egwene – Kristen Kreuk (yes, she's a bad actress)

Elayne - Keira Knightly

Avi - Milla Jovovich

Min – Natalie Portman (still attractive with boyish hair)

Faile – a less petulant Mila Kunis (That 70's Show- can’t you just see her bossing Perrin?)

Morgase - Julia Roberts

Nynaeve – Evangeline Lilly

Berelain –

Lini - Yoda

Tylin – Susan Sarandon

Tuon – my best friend, only because I know no one else who fits this role aesthetically.

Selucia – Scarlet Johannsen

Fool Men

Mat - Heath Ledger (yes, I know he’s a little too old to go with Hayden) or Shane West

Perrin – there’s no one I dislike enough to put here…

Thom - Ian McKellen

Juilin - Samuel L Jackson

Gareth Bryne – Bruce Willis

Agelmar Jagad – Patrick Stewart

Lan – Liam Neeson

Gawyn – Tom Welling

Galad –

Valan Luca – Johnny Depp or Hugh Jackman

Aes Sedai:

Elaida - Sigourney Weaver

Cadsuane - Angelica Houston

Verin - Dame Judy Dench

Moiraine – Kate Beckinsale (too tall, but a good face)

Liandrin - Nicole Kidman

Alviarin – Cate Blanchette

Myrelle – Angelina Jolie

Siuan -

Leane – Halle Berry

Sheriam –

Galina

Whitecloaks:

Jaichim Carridin – Jeremy Irons

Pedron Niall -

Geofram Bornhald -

Dain Bornhald -

Jaret Byar -

Hmmm, interesting idea, Kate Beckinsale as Moiraine. I think Morena Baccarin (Inara from Firefly) is more how I pictured her, but Beckinsale could pull off the coldness-without-being-snippy attitude better. I could definitely picture her making the Two Rivers kids believe she is ready to kill them rather than see them go to the Shadow.

Haven't seen any suggestions for Tam Al'Thor, so here's my sole contribution: Derek Jacobi, the Chorus from Henry V, Alexander Corvinus from Underworld 2, et al.

And I can't see the Rock as Rhuarc. Rhuarc is too old, too cool headed. Now, Couladin, on the other hand... I could definitely see the Rock waving a spear and promising to lead the Shaido on a rampage against the wetlands. :D

Here is my ridiculously long 2-cents. I have way too much time on my hands. Some of the actors and actresses are obviously too old (especially for the main characters), but I am not very familiar with the teen-actors. I pretty much hate all of those teen dramas--Smallville, OC, Dawson's Creek, Buffy, etc. The last one I can remember liking was the _Byrds of Paradise_.

The Heroes

Rand—Christian Bale

Mat—Owen Wilson

Perrin—

Egwene—Anne Hathaway

Nynaeve—Rachel Weisz

Moiraine—Jodie Foster

Lan—Antonio Banderas

Elayne—Brittany Murphy

Min—Winona Rider

Thom—Sam Elliot (that picture was perfect for Thom!)

Aviendha—Liv Tyler or Jessica Alba ?????

Lolial—Andre the Giant (if he were still alive)

Birgitte—Heather Graham

Juilin—Will Smith

Faile—Lucy Liu or Claire Forlani (it’s all about the eyes)

Andorans

Morgase—Kate Winslet

Gawyn—Orlando Bloom

Galad—

Gareth—Sean Connery

Lini—Carol Kane (The miracle man’s wife in _The Princess Bride_)

Guybon—Kiefer Sutherland

Emond’s Fielders

Tam—George Clooney

Abel—

Alsbet—

Haral—

Bran—

Marrin—

Daise Congar—Kathleen Turner

Aiel

Rhuarc—

Gaul—

Sorilea—Meryl Streep

Couladin—

Sevanna—

Aes Sedai

Siuan—

Leanne—Monica Belluci

Verin—

Cadsuane—Judy Dench

Elaidia—

Sheriam—

Alanna—

Seanchan

Tuon—Natalie Portman

Selucia—

Turak—Lawrence Fishburne

Suroth—Grace Jones

Karede—Denzel Washington

Whitecloaks

Niall—Patrick Stewert

Balwer—Ben Kingsley

Byar—

Valda—

Others

Valan Luca—Johnny Depp

Bashere—

Deira—Teri Hatcher

Bayle Domon—Bernie Mac or Vince Vaughn

Vanin—Jack Black (the only role I could think of for the funniest man in showbiz)

Colavere—Shannon Doherty

Dobraine—Gary Sinise

Berelain—Catherine Zeta Jones

Taim—Liam Neeson

Logain—

Aram—Brad Pitt

Masema—John Malkovich

Elyas—Mel Gibson

The Dark Side

Lanfear—Aishwarya Rai (supposedly the most beautiful woman in the world)

Moridin—Lambert Wilson

Semirhage—Angelina Jolie

Graendal—Selma Hayek

Halima—Rose McGowan

Demandred—Hugo Weaving

Asmodean—Nicholas Cage

Liandrin—Nicole Kidman

Alviarin—Gwyneth Paltrow

Galina—

For some odd reason, I am fascinated with this, so I will probably try to fill in the blanks later. Other actors and actresses who I would like to find roles for include Ving Rhames, Giovani Ribisi, Vigo Mortenson, Cilian Murphey, George Carlin, Eliza Dushku, ELizabeth Hurley, Kate Beckinsale, Julianne Moore, Diane Lane, and Diane Keaton.

Who could play Galad? Who is the most beautiful male actor? I don't have any good ideas except for maybe Brad Pitt, but I like him better as the Tinker turned psycho.

Erm... I don't have too much to offer here (I care more about movies than the actors/actresses in them):

Mat--Matt Damon

Moiraine--Kate Beckinsale

Thom--Ian McKellen

Asmodean--Johnny Depp

Ishamael--Adrian Brody (in case of sheer desperation)

Lanfear--Stephanie Seymour (too old, I think, though--however, check out the "November Rain" video, by Guns N' Roses... pretty close)

Gawyn--Dominic Monaghan

That's all... a paltry composition by this thread's standards.

I HAAAAAATE Anne Hathaway!! Every time I see her I want to smash her face in!! Is that really so wrong?

But I LOVE Bernie Mac as Bayle Domon. He'd be funny. :P

Egwene – Kristen Kreuk (yes, she's a bad actress)

Caddy, what are you thinking? She's not bad - she's TERRIBLE! And why would you suggest a bad actress for the role of Egwene? Better to go with an unknown than a well known crap actor.

I liked many of your other choices, though. i disagree with Rahvin. I thought he was decribed as having dark skin. I always pictured that huge guy who played the President in 24. No clue what his name is.

I also think Kathy Bates would be better as Verin than Judy. But they're my only real opinions.

Yeh, that's why I put a qualifying statement that SOME of the characters are chosen for personality, and SOME are chosen for looks. Kristen is chosen because that's what I think Eggy looks like, not because I think she could pull off the part! I haven't been any more inspired by other choices to play her, tho, which is why she's still there.

And I didn't remember the part about Rahvin having dark skin, all that stuck in my head was attractive man with streaks of gray in his hair... But I like the guy who plays Mr. Prez in 24, so he could go there too. :P

I'm with you on this one Leaf. Kristen Kreuk is such a bad actress that they should have casted her in the new Star Wars films if only to improve the appearance of Manakin Skywalker!

And yeah, Kathy Bates is clearly Verin, who could not be played by Judy Dench, cos she has to be the real Cadsuane.

I always pictured Ingtar as Ed Harris.

Yeah, well I like Hugo Weaving because he's famous for playing a sneering bad guy (Matrix), a heroic Lord elf (Lord of the Rings) and an over-dramatic queen looking for redemption (Priscilla: Queen of the Desert).

Perfect for Ingtar, I think. ;)

Ed Harris could be in the cast somewhere down the line though...

Maybe Mordeth.

No, Judy Dench cannot be Cadsuane, she's too round. Cadsuane has always struck me as very pointy-looking, which is why I thought Angelica Houston would be good. And AH is capable of the bad@ssness necessary to play Cadsuane.

Not that Judy Dench isn't, I guess.

This pic by Angela McPherson is the best one of Cadsuane that I have ever seen, and it just makes me think of Dame Judy :)
