Mashiara O Aan.a--ein
I'm trying to think of characters I've heard others complain about....please suggest other people who belong on the list ;) There are so many characters people dislike, I'm curious to see who that special person is, who gets on everybody's nerves ;D
Vambram
I am in that small minority of fans who likes all eight of those characters in this poll.
Mat is Better
[move]You forgot Gawyn[/move] I chose Egwene.
Nelal Hurcran
You need to put some of the Sea Folk up there. Esp. Harine din Togara Two Winds, the sailmistress who follows Cadsuane to Rand in WH.
Majsju
The only ones I come even close to hating are Elaida, every single whitecloak except Galad, and I'm not so sure about him, and Seanchan as a people.
ilConte
The character I probably hate the most is the Alviarin....and of course Gawyn is rather irritating, but not as much as Brigitte.
Luckers
Honestly I hate none of them. RJ was never the best at writing characters that you truly hate. GRRM was much better. Byar, maybe. Or the younger Bornhald. Couladin?
ilConte
I'd completely forgotten Byar, you do tend to hate him...but you're right GRRM is much better at creating hated characters, look at Cersei and Tywin Lannister, everyone hates them, while nearly everyone likes the Starks in general and mostly Jon Snow....at least in my opinion. Luckers
Nah, Cersei and Tywin are obvious. To me, to truly get a look at Martin's talen, look at the likes of the Brave Companions, Vargo the Goat, the Good Masters, Theon and so forth. trakand_01
I am in that small minority of fans who likes all eight of those characters in this poll. I'm with you - i like them all. If i had to pick one it'd be Nynaeve because i just wish she'd lighten up a bit, but I'm still very fond of her. Personally I think a little more about Nynaeve's history; her childhood, parents, siblings, would help us to understand / tolerate her better. Red States Rule!
I hate that son of a flaming goat, BELA!!!!!!!!!!
Wakim
If I have to read about Nynaeve pulling on her braid one more time I think I'll explode.
Mat is Better
What? Some people chose Rand? Seems like a weird series to read if you don't like the hero. That's almost as bad as hating Mat... 8)
gwolson21
Elayne was kind of annoying from the beginning but after Lord of Chaos I can't stand her. She just hates on Mat too much.
Avendoraldera
Mat is Better, I love your sig! And I agree with you, it is kind of weird hating the hero. Granted, I want to kick sense into him a lot of times, but I don't hate him. And who could hate Mat?! Surprisingly(that word doesn't look like it's spelled right), I don't really hate a character, but I absolutely DETEST the Sea Folk(which is why I've chosen Harine). Sometimes I wish that I could jump into the book and hang them by their EARS from their precious sails. I just can't stand them.
Despair
Nynaeve. She is a central character and she still is the most annoying.
Mashiara O Aan.a--ein
Nynaeve is the most amazing character in the whole bloody series. Almost everybody else is either so full of themself *cough* Elayne *cough* or has some other freaky ulterior motive and is busy manipulating everybody *cough* Egwene *cough* . Nynaeve heals people, she looks after Rand, and she's happy with Lan. Oh, not to mention, she helped cleanse saidin. She has a pure heart and iron courage. She's learning to deal with her anger issues and has at least learned to apologize and hold in the fury sometimes. Plus, ya gotta admit, that Malkier scene was pretty cool. Vambram
Nynaeve is my third favorite character. To me, Rand is my #1 favorite and Lan is my second favorite.
Bettwo
Mashiara... I was probably going to pick Nynaeve until I read your beautifully worded post! I hadn't thought of her in those contexts... I just don't like that whole "men are stupid" thing she and Egwene are constantly touting. Women can be pretty stupid, too, but they don't seem to see that. So, I chose Egwene. I like her a lot more, but the first few books I just wanted to crawl amongst the pages and shake her! BE YOURSELF, GIRL! First she's says she'll be a wisdom, then she wants to be Aes Sedai, then she wants to be a tinker. If the trollocs had any strong minded women, she'd probably run off with them and tie feathers in her hair. Oh, and if I got any time alone with Liandren while someone (probably Nynaeve) was blocking her.... ooooh! Just a greasy spot left!
Setalle
This being my hundredth read, I am casting my vote for Nynaeve. I just finished reading the scenes with Valan Luca, and I came to realize that she is my least favorite character. She is so full of herself, it drives me crazy! I don't recall her getting any better, either. Well, maybe once she marries Lan, but even then it's because he has control in the bedroom! That's what that girl has needed all along. Just don't let the Women's Circle back home hear of it!

Just a greasy spot left! *blushing at the praise* ;D lol, Egwene running off with trollocs, I can see it now... I don't like the men-are-stupid thing either, but I can only hope that more time with Lan will put an end to that. I wish more sections of the book from early on were Ny's POV: it's hard for most people to relate to her because of her often immature and irrational behavior, and that *lovely* braid yanking. It's only easy to like her once you learn to understand her. She was a very young Wisdom, and the Women's Circle at Emond's Field was always trying to push her around. They didn't respect her because of her youth, so she always had that need to prove herself...hence the bullying. She thinks she has to brow-beat someone for them to get things done. And likely it was necessary back at the Women's Circle. The only problem is that she didn't know how to handle herself in a completely different world. I don't like it, but at least I understand where she's coming from. One of the things I respect most about Nynaeve is her loyalty. There are so many two-faced characters in the book that it's nice to see a straightforward person. Ny has her faults, but at least you know who she is. No secrets. No manipulation. Just a desire to heal and keep the people she loves alive. It's why Rand knew he could trust only her. OK, I'm done with my speech now ;) btw, Ny is my #1, Lan is #2, Moir and Mat tie for third with Siuan as a close 4th
Mat is Better
Agreed. Nynaeve is one of the coolest. I mean even from TEoTW on you can see it. She looks after our 3 heroes (not to mention ALL of the main characters) like she is their mother. She got on my nerves at first in the eye of the world because she was almost hindering Moiraine and making the trip harder (not really but it seemed that way. Really Nynaeve has kind of stepped in and picked up Moiraines shoes in almost every way. I think Rand would be better off if he kept himself on a leash with the rope in her hands. She wants to make sure he stays alive and she's strong enough to help him stay that way. Don't get me wrong I love Lan. He just hasn't been as important since everyone else has had superhuman powers. I'll be glad to see some glory for him in AMoL. Mat is Better, I love your sig! Thanks. I didn't actually remember that quote :-[, it's been years since I've read most of the books. I just found it on another site (which shall remain nameless) and decided to slap it on there.
Vambram
I have always chuckled and laughed at the whole "men are stupid thing" from the women of Randland, and more specifically from the women of Two Rivers. To me, this was always some humor that RJ was putting into his stories and characters. Also, I do remember a scene with the Two Rivers men when they were talking to Perrin (don't remember which book but it was one of the books where Perrin was fighthing against the Trolloc armies and Slayer) and those Two Rivers men explained to Perrin the social and interpersonal dynamics between men and women of Two Rivers. I see a lot of fans not liking the supposed insults from the women calling men "woolheaded" and other words. However, to me, I have always read that kind of dialogue in the WoT as nothing more then humorous teasing among characters whom are friends with one another. Mat is Better
Yeah, there's plenty of women bashing too. It's quite funny I think. Coming from different people but the perspectives always the same. It reminds me of how Rand, Mat and Perrin are always like "I wish I were _______. He'd know what to do." Quite funny.
