Okay,

Friday: Black Snake Moan.

The movie was great, but you really have to pay attention, if you don't you'll miss certain 'subliminal 'images'' that are in many ways, key to the story line. Other then that, the music wasn't half bad...

Saturday: Fracture.

Okay this movie was 'alright' However it almost reaked of a 'hannible' type movie. That being, raving lunatic killer guy. However the movie its self was alright, though I TOTALLY Predicted the ending within the first 40 minutes. (though, technically, I was half right. :P ). However the 'ending ending' was rather... how would you say it.... Cliche? Would have been far better had it not ended the way it did. :D

Sunday: Letters from Iwo Jima.

If your a fan of 'war movies' Id sugjest this in a heart beat.

If your not a fan of 'war movies' because its the same ol' same ol'. I'd highly sugjest this movie. Its shot from the other end of the spectrum, something rarely seen. And coming from Clint Eastwood, The movie is quite simply great!

I was expecting some sort of BS war movie from the eyes of the 'enemy' (so to speak) but still with the feel as if it were some sorta propaganda film showing the evils of them, and it did the exact opposite! "That and it showed the good, and the evil of both sides pretty well.

Next week..

Wild Hogs

300

The Astronaut Farmer.

"great mix btw, 2 comedies, and one sudidal action flick!!"

I very recently watched Firefly. I really liked it. and then I watched Serenity, and thought it was ok.. but I think I've missed something. because on the dvd box with the series, it says its the complete Firefly series, but in Serenity, lots of stuff has happened, that didnt happen in the series. so I might have to do some research on whether there are some episodes thats not in the complete series dvd's  :P

I watched Vanity Fair last night. the 2004 version. I love movies like that, altho the movie ended well for Becky, tho in the book, it doesnt end well at all. but over all a good movie. I do love the costumes very much  ;D and I keep asking myself why in the world men stopped being gentlemen..  :P

umm, I dont think i've watched anything else that is allowed to review on this particular forum  ;D

I believe Serenity set to be some time in the future after Firefly left off, this is so that if Fox ever decided to revisit the series, or somebody else started it back up there would be lots of room for expansion before Serenity takes place.

I thought the reason there was a jump was because they didn't want the movie to be 'just a continuation' of the series.  If it was just a continuation, they'd alienate all the people who had never watched the TV show by having overly developed characters with complex histories that nobody (of the new viewers) knows.

Anyway, Now I'm watching some episodes of the L-word.

(I hate Jenny Schecter.... Grrrr)

Ok I have a few to quickly review:

Black Snake Moan

I got this based on the positive reviews from other posters.  Was it better than I thought?  Yes, but that is not saying much as I expected a very bad film.  It wasn't great, it wasn't terribly bad... it just did not do much for me.  I did see flashes of genius at times in the film though which intrigued me and I thought the acting was pretty good all around.

Glory Road

Ummm basically Remember the Titans for basketball.  It was an interesting story but I felt like I had seen it many times in other films.  The acting was not bad but the movie did not really do much better than I expected.

United 93

As a rule, I have stayed away from movies dealing with 9/11.  Mainly because I think making a movie about this tramatic time so soon after the event is either a way to get a quick buck or a ploy to induce American pride (not that I am against it, but nationalism is something crammed down our throats every day).  Anyway, I decided to watch due to the strong reviews out there.  I was not disappointed and thought the movie very well done.  It was very dramatic and brings up the emotions from Sept 11.

Volver

Ok film.  It had a good story and it is nice to see movies from other countries.  It did not overly impress me though.

Ooo.. Thanks Maj!  I remember once on fiddlesticks I think, I liked your taste in movies. ^_^

Unfortunately I'm having a hard time finding a copy of it here.  It's not exactly a main stream movie.

Also, I don't have netflix or any of those things. I live in the stoneage where you go to a rental store to get movies.

The Rage in Placid Lake.

Netlflix recommended this to me and thought I would give it 4 stars.  That was pretty ambitious for netflix as 1. I had never heard of it 2. I rarely give movies 4 or 5 stars as I am a movie snob.  But I think netflix was right and I will give it 4 stars (I would go with 3.5 if it were possible).  Great Aussie comedy which Yveva enjoyed immensely as well.

i just got done watching Captain Blood, a movie made in 1935 staring eroll flyn. it is a good ol swashbucking movie about a docter turned pirate.  this was the great flyns first movie according to the guy doing the comentary on TCM.  while it was an old movie and everything, i still relly enjoyed it.  there were lots of good fight sceans, both big shoot em ups with ships and building exploding into millions of pices and several one on one sword fights. couldent help comparing it to pirates of the caribian, espetialy as many of the places where the same, tortuga, port royal ect.

as far as movies go i would give it a 3.  it was a little bit corny in some places, but it did have real acting too, somthing hollywood seems to be lacking.  if anyone wants to see an older movie that is still relly good, i recumend this one

I watched 'Wild Hogs' yesterday...

I was not impressed at all. There were 2 'laugh out loud' funny parts in the entire movie.. Not a coincidence, is the fact that the 'last' one was ironic to the 'first' one, which in its self was 'reocurring theme' through out the movie.

Number 23.

This was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.  I was pretty interested throughout the movie and it did a good job moving through the plotline.  I also liked the visual imagery while he was reading.  Not the best movie, but not to bad either.

The Ring Two (US):

Other than this, the only other Ring movie I've seen is the US version of The Ring... I wasn't as impressed by this one as I was by the first movie, but then I don't guess I was expecting to be. Part of it is that when I saw The Ring, that was the first time I had seen this genre of horror, and so now it isn't as new anymore. Revisiting the old characters, there is now not so much anticipatation that something bad will happen to our main characters. After all, Rachel has already been in the well and faced Samara before... Also, I didn't feel that either Ring movie was as scary as The Grudge (US) though that is hardly a fair comparison, since that may be, to me at least, the most scared/unsettled I've ever been by a film for whatever reason...

So having said that, as a horror movie I do give it a positve review overall, especially compared to most horror fare. Great effects, unsettling moments, and a creepy atmosphere.. especially when you are watching most of it at about 4 in the morning while everyone else is sleeping.  ;D

Check out the difference post and pre makeup in the girl who plays Samara (In-the-well version, not the little girl version)
