I felt like a kid on Christmas morning seeing Loial for the first time!! Who cares that he isn't tall enough, he brought me the most joy of the series so far. not saying other parts didn't bring me joy. Unlike the nitpickers I absolutely love everything they have done so far. ONCE AGAIN THIS IS NOT A BOOK IT IS A TV SHOW ADAPTATION!!!

This one's for you. Loial's prosthetics look about as real and expressive as....

The Burger King: The History of Fast Food's Creepiest Mascot

It's not about height - it's the mask. It's not good. The dude can't even move his eyebrows!

The other interesting plot theory I heard about Valda was that he was a man that could channel and submitted himself to gentling.  Now he deals with his pain by killing Aes Sedai.  His quote to the yellow Aes Sedai mirriored something similar that Liandrin.  I will see if I can find the direct quote.

What if Valda = Luc/Isom?

They are basicly replacing Perin having a feud with Bornhold and Byar with Valda.  Valda should actually be angry at Egwene since she stabbed him.  Which sort of leads back to it would of made more sense to have Perin attack Valda and not Egwene.

Yep! I think Valda will primarily blame Perrin though, as it was "goldeneyes" that clearly shocked him (he expected Egwene to be able to channel!) and the wolves that let them actually get away and killed so many of the Children.

I guess it shows how much people cared about Bornhold/Byar that no one is really complaining about their being rolled into Valda. ?

re: why he was so convinced that Egwene was a channeler, I think he correctly surmised when we met them before that Moiraine/Lan were Aes Sedai and Warder -- from there the most likely conclusion given the aging-up of the characters and the lack of "ageless faces" was that Egwene and Nynaeve were Aes Sedai too, with Mat/Rand/Perrin their warders.

With Egwene's outright rejection of being Aes Sedai, he figured she must instead be a novice/accepted and relaxed his guard somewhat. And I assume he was just outside the tent eavesdropping the entire time he 'left them alone'.

Some people care that he isn't tall enough.  Just because he brings joy to you doesn't mean the sadness for others isn't invalid.

I liked the changes to Mat's parents, others didn't - but both views are equally valid.

That was my sense as well.

I think he was also cutting on Perrin to see if she showed signs for feeling the pain through the bond.

I don't feel that I've been nitpicking.  It isn't just that a detail here and there is off, EVERYTHING is off!

The Witcher series didn't follow the books in a variety of ways but the tone felt spot on.  From the grimy version of Edmonds Field with drunk, womanizer Abel Cauthon, this has felt far, far off.

I hated the dwarf prosthetics in the Hobbit movies - but got over it because I liked the rest so much.  Problem is I'm not finding much else to like to distract me from stuff like this.

I’ve been trying to watch these episodes from a new viewer standpoint. But things like Lan  crying out at Stepin’s funeral are making it very hard. Not only does this go against Lan’s personality, it undermines the whole reason he falls for Nynaeve as the person who finally broke through his emotional shield. I did like the scene with Perrin and Egwene. I felt it was a good way to show their WC conflict in this abbreviated version of our story. Although I think there should have been at least some communication with Hopper. No matter how brief it may have been. At first I was intrigued by the laughing Logain until they showed it was just a part of Mat’s delusions. I wouldn’t be surprised if they killed Logain straight out since this show will probably never last long enough to reach the Black Tower portion of the story. The whole Stepin storyline seems completely unnecessary to me to rest of the story. I hope maybe the last 3 episodes will show why all that screen time was not a waste. I would have rather they focused on Liandrin and her merged role with Elaida’s character from the books.  Maybe even hint at her Black Ajah status. I did also enjoy Loial as I always have when reading the books. Despite his height I feel he was properly portrayed. Him still talking while they were reuniting also made me laugh. I’m still unhappy with this “interpretation” of the WOT story that I hold so dear. I say “interpretation” because it’s seems less like an “adaptation” from book to screen and more like Rafe’s idea of what the story would be had he wrote it himself.

I agree with you - everything is off.  Not sure where that quote is from about me complaining about nitpickers, but I'm sure it was sarcastic - I do that occasionally. ?

The chest thumping scene was ehhhh but once the AS joined in I actually laughed at how awkward it looked. Not a fan of that entire sequence

overall I enjoyed the episode but there were some parts that missed the mark imo

anybody else start humming the tune from wolf of wall street when the chest thumping started?

Given Loial's look, can we expect this for the Green Man?

I don't really care about Borhhold although his eventual turning on Byar was a nice touch.

Byar on the other hand I kinda liked. A good exemple of an evil character that doesn't follow the shadow (albeit he was manipulated by it). He was terrifying with his seeming lack of human emotions, and yet I really like him giving Galad advice in his fight against Valda.

Does seem like both will be gone though, which is understandable.

I know I am in the minority, but I actually enjoyed the funeral scene at the end. I like the beating of the breast and the ceremonial rending of garments as an expression of grief. I didn't get any sense that Lan was weak in that moment - he was doing his duty. Leading a ceremony, the purpose of which was for him to express the grief and pain of all the people present in the room.

I believe that the scenes with Stepin, the suicide, and the ritual funeral at the end of the episode resonated well for non-readers of the WoT books. And that is a good thing. However, for most of us fans who've been reading the books for decades, we can rightfully feel as if at least 15 minutes were wasted in this episode which should have included scenes that followed EoTW more faithfully.

I watched the show with my mother, sister and girlfriend all of which have never read a single page of the books. They all are absolutely in love with the show and thoroughly enjoyed the way they showed how heartbreaking the loss of an Aes Sedai can be to the warder. They actually all questioned me on if it was foreshadowing and I like to think I played that off fairly well as just the show giving representation of the bond. All 3 of them say that Nynaeve is the best!! They also really like Lans butt lol and already know for certain there has to be a thing between him and Nynaeve down the line. They looked at me like I was crazy when I got ridiculously excited about "some weird looking hairy dude" AKA Loial LOL. Overall its been a wonderful show and seeing the way 3 different non-book readers are reacting has really been an awesome experience. Also its nice that you can watch and enjoy the show with your family and not have to feel overly awkward watching soft core porn like GOT forced on us.

I agree with this.  GOT got a little too graphic at points.

I can definitely see how Lan expressing that emotion would seem jarring compared to book Lan. However it isn't something they did randomly, it's a very much meant to be symbolic of funerals in some cultures, particularly south east Asian ones, which are a strong influence on the borderlands.

I think if Lan was given a bit more chance to shine in his role as a warrior equaled by none, I wouldn't be bothered by him at all. As it is I'm waiting for the moment where I go "Now that is Lan". I'm sure it's coming, it just can't come soon enough.

Oh. Interesting. This would be really cool. I don't think this will be the case but would like it. Tower of Ghenji and the Snakes/Foxes are something I really nervous about moving forward. They're some of my favorite parts of the books (really separates it out in the scope, weirdness, and epic-ness of the books).

I had the same initial thought when I saw it isolated on the Dusty Wheel last night.

Although, I allowed myself to get convinced that it was something else later.  ?
