The night is clear and warm with a slight breeze to cool the evening air, carrying with it the slight smell of salt from the ocean a few ridgelines to the South. A torch lined path leads through the woods, and the canopy of new spring leaves show a few stars here and there, twinkling in the night sky. The path winds through the dark woods before finally opening up into a large clearing ringed with more torches. Just inside the torches are various members of The Band of the Red Hand. In the center stand members of the Infantry in full plate armor that reflects the flickering torchlight. The Infantry soldiers are in two lines facing each other, continuing the path towards the center. At the end of the double rows of armored soldiers stands Grim in his burnished plate. Attached at his shoulder guards is a midnight black cloak with a bright red liner. On Grim’s breast plate on the left front is a Red Hand, with the Blademaster design engraved on the opposite side. Behind Grim is a large fire and next to him is a smooth, stone table with several items on it.

 

Taymist! Step forward!

Tay walked up and saluted crisply.

 

I stand ready Blademaster.

Hopeful Taymist, kneel and submit to the judgment of the Guild!

 

Once she kneels, Grim continues

 

Taymist, you have come before the Guild of Blades to receive the title of Blademaster! Before you receive this I charge you with four duties: Guard the Band and its ideals, Guard the Infantry and our traditions, Guard your fellow soldiers and their lives, and finally, guard the innocent as if their life was your own until strength is gone, until blade is dull, until your life is lost. Do you accept these duties of a Blademaster?

Tay looked back solemnly.

 

I do accept these duties to my last breath Blademaster and swear to be true to these oaths.

Taymist, Present Windsinger!

 

Tay draws Windsinger and holds it up to Grim. He takes the weapon and sets it on the stone table. Lifting a stamp made of Heart Stone, and a mallet, Grim sets the stamp on the blade of Windsinger and strikes it with the mallet. Sparks issue from the stamp striking the blade. Grim turns the blade over and once again sets the stamp and strikes it. Hefting the newly marked blade, Grim hands Windsinger back to Taymist, who sees the Herons marked on either side at the base of the blade.

 

With this blade comes two things: The Blademaster pin.

 

Footy retrieves a small cushion from the stone table. Lowering it before Tay, she sees

 

Taking the pin, Grim secures it to the sash that crosses the front of Tay’s own breast plate.

 

The next thing to come with this blade is your naming day. Taymist, Captain-General of the Infantry, member of the Guild of Blades, and Blademaster, state your Master Name in a clear and loud voice for all to hear and know.

Bright eyed and in a clear voice that carried around those gathered, Tay stated her chosen name, carefully holding Windsinger with its new heron marks.

 

My name shall be Blademaster Rhian.

Tay stood grinning from ear to ear with a deep feeling of pride at her recent achievement. Stealing glances every now and again at the heron marks, she raised a brew in salute to those present.

Riva stands quietly during the ceremony, sweating profusely... At the end he wipes moisture from his cheeks with the heel of his palm..

 

"Bloody huge ragin bonfire," he mutters to no one in particular. He is so proud for his sister as he knows the Blood, Sweat and Tears she has shed for this night.

 

He walks over and gathers Tay up in a bear hug... Well done lass, well done indeed.

Twinnie stands at attention, eyes bright and sparkling, jumping as each heron is stamped into the blade, her breath catches hearing Taymist accept the oaths of the Bladmaster. Whispering softly into the night to the stars...May the Light shine on you and protect you! At the end of the ceremony...stepping forward hugs Tay, and crowns her with a wreath of roses

Mystica stood at the front of the line of Infantry soldiers together with the other Officers and as Blademaster Grim pronounced the CG as Blademaster raised her voice.

 

Infantry! Salute!

 

As one all Infantry blades, right down to the Recruits with their training blades, snapped up in salute. Hilt held with both hands at middle level, blade pointing up in a straight line.

 

Infantry! Present Arms!

 

A Fwoop was heard as the gathered regiment swung their blades in a complicated series of forms, twirling and twisting the blades in rappid succession ending with each blade held forward with the hilt pointing forward, blade horizontally pointing towards the holder with the tip vanishing under the right armpit, arm held out straight and rigid.

 

Stepping forward to stand in front of Taymist, Mystica performs the same ritual with Hadhafang, ending with it's hilt pointing straight at Tay.

 

Captain-General Taymist, Blademaster Rhian. The infantry congratulate you on achieving our most heighest rank. We offer you our gratitude for the oaths you have taken, the responsibility you have accepted and the sacrifices you will endure. Today is a proud and fine day for the Infantry of the Band of the Red Hand!

 

Infantry! Salute!

 

Again as one, all infants snapped their swords into a swirling motion. Bringing their swords up in front of them and swooping them down and sideways ending in one smooth move sheathing the blade. Performing the motion with the rest, Mystica follos up with a huge grin on her face.

Infantry! Brew Time!

 

A deafening roar errupts as the formations breaks and every infant comes forward to congratulate our newest Blademaster.
