I agree that the line needs to be drawn where personal attacks start. Also people need to be grown up enough about it to know when to step away for a minute. If they need help figuring that out, then it's great that we have someone who can show them the door to go outside for a timeout.

We don't have the MOST toxic environment here in DM mafia, but there have been instances where I've read stuff and gone "whoa! Dude! Chill" (so not me, but you get what I mean I hope  )

I think with some guidance everyone here will be able to contribute positively to our environment.

Dice, I wanted to address you since you used me as an example. "Idiot" is attacking the player, not the play. That's the difference.

Humor best thing to fix atmosphere imo

This is the most accurate thing Zander's ever said.

In all honesty, I'm of the opinion that the best thing for us all is to constantly remember it's a game. If you can't keep that in mind, then yeah a break is in order.

I guess I'm just too serious to play

Where does purposely upsetting someone come into play? I feel like that's a personal attack if you're directly escalating someone else to the point that they flip out.

It's definitely a strategy used by some. While it's not directly insulting it can be really hard to deal with that's for sure.

That's also a heat of the moment thing. I've been annoyed a lot of times in mafia in the past, and come back with a fresh mind to look at things later, and it's apparent that it was only done to get a rise out of me. It's difficult to always try to take the upper road and not respond when you're annoyed. Idk. Walk away and rather go back later and look at the motivation for them trying to upset you I guess is the best advice I have.

I thought this was a serious conversation..

It is, but Verbal poked me to tell me he made a joke in my direction In this thread, so I'm just poking a little bit back at him.

He already knows that I fully agree with him and there should be a user group and committee in place, and should have been for years. For transparency, I've asked to not be on the committee so no one feels like we would have favoritism.

that type of 1 v 1 riling up hurts games regardless, imo. I don't want to see 2 people going at each other for 30 pages and from an environment standpoint, it's hard to enjoy high post games that have a lot of one on one "arguments" instead of group discussion.

A lot of this is self moderating and trying to play like you're playing with friends, not like you want the other person to cry.

@Leelou, I was picking on Zander moreso than others lol

The title of the thread says it all.

This isn't really a discussion about violating ToS. Obviously that should be handled at a higher level and I don't believe that has ever not been the case.

It's also not a discussion about playstyles or the viability of certain strategies. Everyone is welcome to their own opinion and yes, arguments are a part of the game based on its nature.

The point of this discussion as I see it is to curb a behavior that has made for bad game states. Game play is game play but personal attacks being unacceptable has always been the standard. Accuse, argue and point fingers to your delight but when your response is to say "screw all of you I hate this forum" that's a different story.

Context is everything. What it boils down to is just not being nasty to each other.

Problem is theres no one definition of whats acceptable to a mod. Sooh threatened to modkill me for calling someone stupid for eg. But in my current game i have called eldrick an idiot  zander stupid (probably a number of times) and not a word from the mod.

Also what is perceived as a personal attack by the "victim" can vary.  i might be in a mood where just being called a idiot makes me blow up and feel all butthurt   but normally it wouldnt.  that can be the difference between there even BEING an issue or not.

I understand what you're saying here but I think a lot of that can be handled in game through the mod and players. I'm personally not offended very easily and I tend to be a little more loose when it comes to stuff like that. But if someone has a problem, whether it be mod or player, that can be handled at that level. If the mod doesn't want you calling someone stupid that's their prerogative. If a player feels they are being insulted the mod can handle it.

This is larger scale stuff imo. Calling someone dumb is different than making a game unenjoyable or uncomfortable for others to be in. That's where the problem lies and I think the whole point of this is to limit that.

I agree with what Calder said that the environment here really isn't that bad. There's episodes every now and then but having this sort of system in place could be a good thing.

Oftne 2 people get upset with each other midgame. Does not mean they were trying to drive each other there...it just happens.

Compared to my original site (except for one incident) this site is all roses. Our games had people being brutal to each other.

Violators should be required to record karaoke and share it publicly before signing up again.

A council should be appointed for the appropriate selection of song and attire.

I will be choosing Norwegian death metal.
