Can you please explain the reason for the different styles of reading both of them in that way?

I actually sort of understand this (the difference in method, not necessarily the conclusions), but let's hear the Darthe's answer.

So the thing is I've not been around for a while and my last few efforts have been wildly inconsistent.  If you're looking for  something easy to chew or a good meta I'm probably not the guy.  But I know the game and that's what I'm working with here.  When I say Thane is town I say it based on the merit of his posts in their context, something that I just kind of get a feel for from people.  I can back this up to some extent with quotes and can refute some things but there are no notes and there's little recent history over here to work with, so tbh I'm not sure short of ISOing his body of work this game what it is that I'm going to give you to answer you atm Shad.

IIRC Turin made one post around this morning/afternoon that I was simply confident he couldn't ever make as wolf and I've run with that sense.

That's an old meta thing but unless he has developed a lot I'm running with it for a couple days and will reassess later.

So your reading Thane based on current game content but Turin off of old meta?

Can you please explain the reason for the different styles of reading both of them in that way?

I use whatever I see to make a read.  Bag of tricks and all that jazz.  Turin did things that fit with my meta of him, Thane hasn't done things I'm familiar with him doing but has made statements and progressions in a way I expect of townies who size up in roughly the same way he does (that fluid, kind of laid back but trying to develop method that players get over time)

I curious.

If Verbal's slot is a wolf we should be golden

If not this game is going to get harder

You think Turin is the most likely/most confident wolf for you atp?

If not who so and why?

Zander. Not funny. Unless you want to do my Economics and Taxes homeworks? No?

Would you want ME to do your work for you on something that may be evaluated and effect your education and possibly future career?

.......Id have to say the correct answer is NO.

Im sorry!!!!

I'm not going to pull up exact numbers, but to take a ballpark educated guess, I think Darthe and Thane have played maybe 15-20 games together, whereas Darthe and Turin have probably played 50+ together. I sort of expect him to have some permanent Turin meta locked in his head where a good deal of Thane might have evaporated.

His answer wasn't anything wildly different from this, so I'm cool with it.

You realize there are programs online that do your taxes for you and it's really not that complicated? Good grief

I own two rental properties.  I have to math for like 10 whole minutes to get it done.

It's brutal.

Well, there weren't that many new posts during my sleep this time, so that's good.

Laine (and Shad), I agree. That other post of mine totally made it sound like you were going to have to get lynched. Tired brain makes awkward statements?

Now work.

My back is killing me and Oliver is still awake at 2:30 in the ffffffffffffffff morning and graaah in general but here are my notes on Turin so far. Didn't reread one lick of this after I wrote it and I dunno if I'll continue tonight or just crash and hope he doesn't use me as a trampoline for the next two hours:

#41 -- Asks how many wolves have checked in yet, has a bad feeling about me.

#66 -- Zander called #41 strange, Turin asks why.

#98 -- Zander had said it's too early for reads, Turin says my v/v/v comment felt like trying to fit in. ~~It's certainly not unusual for this sort of thing to ping Turin.

#99 -- Halli had asked if Turin thinks wolves post early irt #41. Turin says generally yes but that wasn't his point, wanted people to share their early thoughts. ~~So far so good, nothing that would be hard to fake but reads like an attempt to get the game rolling.

#108 -- Doesn't think Zander's locktown read on Cory looked like a joke. ~~Generically weird but prob normal for Turin~~ Wants to know if Zander's vote on Sooh is because he's upset or because he thinks she's scum. ~~If you read just the immediate post Turin's responding to, I can get this confusion. If you read the multiquote, Zander had explicitly stated why he thought Sooh might be scum. But I've seen town!Turin skim past some critical posts in the past and draw unrealistic conclusions for lack of having seen the full picture. So I dunno. At any rate the concern that Zander might be making an emotionally-driven rather than read-driven vote entered the picture before scum!Dice was any part of it.

#115 -- Reiterates #98 when I ask. (Oh hey Tina I did ask. Considering I forgot I can forgive you missing it.)

#126 -- Asks the thread for snap reads up to this point, gives some of his own: concerned with me, Hallia, and Thane for potentially efforts to buddy/fit in early, leaning town on Sooh because he doesn't think she'd stir up controversy as scum. ~~Not bad. Is it too late to ask why Cory and Zander weren't included in this pile?

#132 -- Asks Cory's opinion on whether scum might try to join/form a 'town core' during the intro phase. ~~Just reread the first few pages, and I can understand why town!Turin would exclude Cory from the group of people trying to buddy up. No clue why he would exclude Zander.

Wait, so...I don't understand. Turin, are you saying I'm wolfy for saying that to Thane? Or you have me as a villager? I am confused.

I have you leaning mafia for that.

Zander, you are voting her but you don't think she is mafia? Now I'm confused.

Turin thats absolutely NOT what I said.

Why you misrepping me brah?

I saying im not sure shes mafia. but i didnt like the post.

Im pretty sure i explained that well enough.

For reference, here's literally the last game I played with Zander (which you were in):

http://www.dragonmount.com/forums/topic/96361-worlds-end-mafia-town-wins-comprehensively/?p=3582230

That's post 19 - he jokingly cleared me and then tinfoiled on me a whole bunch of times on d1 and actually tried to start something with me during n1.

I could go back, but this is something he's also done with Laine and Shad and etc. etc.

He does it all the time in both roles.

Zander gonna Zander imo

lolololololol

Right now what are your snap reads of everyone? Just say who.you legit think is town or mafia. Feel free to leave out the nulls. I'm curious.

Right now I will say I am suspicious of all the people that say things like "hopefully we will read each other right" or things like that.

Hallia, Shad, Thane jumping into the 4 v's.

I actually lean town on Sooh for the controversial post. I just don't see her making that post as mafia. Too likely to draw negative attention.

I think rest null. But only on phone so might have missed something.

WHy do you expect people to give snap reads atp Turin?

I find these snap reads weird atp, well I find snap reads this early strange in general.

But thats just me maybe.

I disagree irt Sooh, im not saying shes a wolf atp, but this type of play doesnt necessarily make her Towny imo. Garnering negative early and flipping it like this [ucg]COULD [/u]be played off as AtE which different players interrupt differently.

I'm not sure how to read that other tHan you saying she isn't a wolf. Are you saying that you just aren't sure?

~~This comes off to me like Turin is intentionally spinning the situation to discredit Zander's read. (Something we both noted him doing again later.) But I can't be sure it's intentional. Again here, he's doing it before Dice is in the picture. (Dice had started scumming it up, but the discussion was still about Sooh.) The thing is I don't see scum!Turin just intentionally spinning stuff at random though--like, being scummy for the sake of being scummy. He's not making any sort of push on Zander. He could be defending a scum mate Sooh, or it just might be a misunderstanding. And I don't know if that's more likely to happen with him as town or as scum.

Just getting ready to try to get caught up. Saw this and had to say I really don't like this post.

Dice, buddy. How are you doing?

Are you a wolf this game? Why not?

Can someone tell me why I don't?

This is the kind of post that leads to the clique thought. afaik Thane hasn't been mush into the thread aside from the jokey posts at the start of the game. So it reads EXACTLY as what Sooh was talking about. Thane comes in and buddies Z, Cory and Shad. Then his interaction with Dice is the opposite. His stance seems to be that He is convinced that Dice is mafia (for bad reasons IMO) and is in effect trying to get Dice to prove a negative when it should be more on Thane to show why Dice is mafia if that is his take.

Okay. back in a bit

And Dice WAS mafia. Thane TMI? I dunno. Thane isn't actually pushing Dice, like, at all here really. Turin interprets it as a push though, similar to taking Zander's early jokes seriously. Does scum!Turin mistakenly take it as a push and come to his team mate's defense?

#293 and then he goes on to elaborate on issues with Thane. Points out two posts where he thinks Thane might be trying to buddy into a 'town core'. Simultaneously calls them fluff posts and takes Thane's jokes as serious reads, which makes ~zero sense but I don't know that it's indicative of anything. Wants us to remember Thane's 'everyone is town' post if he flips scum, but doesn't attempt to interpret it. Wants Thane to elaborate on his snap reads. "his early three buddies are still where they were apparently" ~~spin?~~ Accuses Thane of mafia reading Dice again, which didn't happen but Turin is correct in observing that Thane treats Dice distinctly differently (more negatively) than everyone else. So it's not a bad observation, really, even if Turin's way of explaining it sounds spinny on the surface.

~~Take away from all this, Turin's insistance that no one was joking around at the start of this game is bewildering, but he's consistant about it, and it leads him to correctly observe that Thane treats Dice differently than other players. I don't feel like I understand Turin's thought process well enough to decipher what that means, but it feels like it ought to be significant, about Turin or Thane or both.
