Sometimes it annoys me that darkness and shadow are classed as evil, while light and bright is classed as good.

 

There's a young adult set of books by Louise Cooper - the Time Master trilogy and it's sequel trilogy called Daughter of Chaos I think. It has an interesting take on Light vs Dark.

 

Another series that does a great job on changing this trope is The Black Jewels by Anne Bishop. They are definitely more adult themed though, so younger viewers should stay clear :)

the Recluse novels have a different spin on the Light (white) vs. Dark (Black) magic stereotypes as well. Although the answer for him is that Grey is the way.
